Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres has always been one of my favorite painters. Although he considered himself a history painter, I like many others love him for his portraits. (I love his history paintings too!)
In this video we will be copying The Princesse de Broglie, a portrait completed by Ingres in 1853. We'll also make a stop at The Met (metropolitan museum of art) in NYC to show you where this painting hangs. I'll talk about some art history and of Ingres, but this painting lesson is all about the techniques used during the neoclassical movement of the mid 19th century. The challenge is that I will not be using oil paint for this one. This copy will be completed entirely in acrylic paints and an airbrush. Can an acrylic painting look like an oil painting?
