"my pronunciation is shit, but that doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about..." I need that on a shirt. Literally my mood in every academic situation.
Yes! A friend of mine is bilingual and has trouble with certain words but she graduated either a year or 2 years early and is super smart. But she gets her words mixed up and is often like “huh” but shes actually smart. I think Dr. Idriss is bilingual well. I can’t place her accent though, she sounds either French or Spanish.
True! Usually i get the highest mark in english written assignments but not as high orally because my pronounciation is terrible i mess up in my native language too with my pronounciation but not too bad
I FINALLY found someone informative who talks science and analyzes ingredients, I was a chemistry student and can’t buy a product without analyzing it’s label, you’re my HOLY GRAIL RU-vidr! Thanks Dr Idriss 💕
@@quackitytheasker9977 lol I love her, but idk why but I just trust people who have actually degrees about it. 😭 like sheren is a whole as dermatologist. Doctor, md, I trust her with ma life
For those who are interested in seeing the study of the vitamin C derivative Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) being a good choice for acne prone skin, the title is "Sodium ascorbyl phosphate shows in vitro and in vivo efficacy in the prevention and treatment of acne vulgaris", it's a very nice read: they mentioned how it initially had no activity against p. acnes bacteria at the concentration of 0.5%, but when they increased it to 1%, within 4 hours it had a very effective reduction in the p. acnes bacteria, and they even showed a before and after picture of one of their representative subjects who took part in the treatment process. Thank you Dr. Shereene for making these Let's Get Intimate playlists, it helps me research even further about skincare ingredients as I initially wasn't sure where to start in terms of researching. Your videos give me a foundation of understanding and allows me to explore even further to research regarding the ingredients. I appreciate your help a lot.
I feel like I just found my new favorite youtuber. She is so informational but finds a great way of delivering this to make it memorable and entertaining.

Awesome video! Thank you :D. For people in South Africa look at the brand skin functional, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate 20% for R390.00 ($26.24) maybe people overseas can order it. Ok time to binge your other videos
But she's wrong in a lot of the things she's saying. You won't overdose on vitamin C from more than 2000 MCG a day, you can take all the way up to 10000 MCG a day without overdosing, The first sign of overdosing is diarrhoea and I haven't experienced it yet even thou I eat 2000 MCG in the morning + with every meal I eat, so I consume between 6000 and 8000 MCG vitamin C every single day and it has done wonders for me. This is a +1 hour video review on different vitamin C studies, but specifically my argument about taking vitamin C with every meal or 4-6 times daily, look at 2:20 in the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zfJQTyOklnE.html You should listen to the whole video thou, it's free gold and diamonds packed in a 1 hour video. Also check out her and her research crews website, they have 30 pages of vitamin C highlights from almost 200 scientific references.
Shereene I’m a dude and half the reason I watch your postings are because you’re funny as hell. Your my go to on skin care. Do what you do! You’ve been a big help.
I love the way you always give a wide $ range of products. You show that just because a person doesn't have a lot of $$ in the bank doesn't mean that they can't have the benefits of products and have great skin. Thank you so so much!
Thanks for mentioning vitamin C on sensitive skin since I’ve been using it every morning and once in a while I’ll use it twice a day, and I just found out the Timeless 20% vitamin C E ferulic serum is actually too high strength for me. I watched another video where vitamin C around 20% and 25% isn’t well-tolerated so vitamin C at 15% tends to be the best (providing best antioxidant properties while having lowest sensitivity/inflammation so highest tolerance for all skin types). So if anyone is experiencing redness/inflammation/irritation/flaky skin from vitamin C, definitely try to get 15% vitamin C. The super pricey Skinceuticals vitamin CE ferulic serum is formulated with 15% vitamin C. Edit: Please talk about vitamin E/tocopherol and vitamin B5/pantothenic acid! I love the La Roche Posay cicaplast baume b5 and would love to know the science behind B5 products.
I was scrolling through my recommended and was like, "Another skincare video. I've binge watched more than enough of these." And was about to go right pass this video until I saw how glowy her skin is.
I never comment on videos. Ever….. but I just want to tell you how much I APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS!!!! You are so thorough and make it enjoyable!!! Lol!! So many of the other dermatologists on YT are DRYYYYYYYYY and down right miserable to be watch… one of them I have to listen to with headphones because my husband can’t stand her voice, lol…. 😬😬😬 Not to talk bad about others, there is something for everyone, right? And you are FOR ME!!! Lol. Thank you for the time you take to make these, they help!!!
Just for everyone: The Timeless vitamin C serum is also combined with vitamin E and feurulic (sorry for the spelling of that if it's wrong 🤣) I've used one up and will repurchase, it's brilliant
I love it too! I just bought a mini fridge for my vanity to keep it in. It doesn't hurt my sensitive skin like some others and I see the glow after use. Love this stuff!
Agreed. I think it isn’t lipophilic so people with oilier skins would not have great penetration of the product as the natural oils would keep it out. Lipophilic means fat loving. Oil is fat. Get it?
I was aware that vitamin C and copper are inversely proportional to each other. I had copper poisoning from my copper IUD (Paragard) and I was researching natural remedies because I was sick and having trouble finding someone to remove it for me. I started taking a very high dose of vitamin C pills and I did experience some relief from my symptoms. Ladies, I hope this helps even one person. If you have a copper IUD and you're not feeling right, it's not in your head and you're not crazy, even if you've begun to think you are.
Skin Nerd here! Every time I think “Dr. Shereene, I got this already, this video is for beginners”. Then I hear something that has me 😳 like, my skin gets red after I use my Skinceuticals C E Ferulic and maaaaaaaaybe it’s oxidized and is no longer shelf stable. *runs to check expiration* Thank you for your videos. You break it down in an informative way that just clicks!
Omg, Dr. Shereene Idriss liking your comment?!? I just shrieked in front of my toddler and husband. How do you explain it to them?!? 😂 I feel so seen right now 🥰
I’m literally 😯 right now. I follow another Dermatologist here on RU-vid and she always says the Vita C is a gimmick. Says that there is barely any studies that show skin benefits from Vita C and doesn’t understand why people are obsessed with it. And says that if it isn’t Ascorbic Acid or L-Ascorbic Acid, then it’s useless. I’m dumbfounded lol.
If it's de dray, If I remember correctly She said that there is evidence for pure vit c, but it is very unstable. She also said that there is not much evidence for derivatives.
@@danaso2567 No it’s not Dr. Dray. I don’t even remember the woman’s name now. It was a small channel and I had only been subbed for a few months. I unsubbed the next day after this video because this person did a video “Debunking the Myth of Vitamin C” and was pretty much shitting on Dr. Dray, Dr. Idriss, and Canssandra Bankson. She wouldn’t say their names but it was obvious who she was talking about by the videos they had done that week. People were questioning whether she was really a doctor and she was arguing with people in the comments. It was a lot of drama, and what I assume was trolling, so I dipped out. I will try to find the channel again and put the channel name in another comment but no, I love Dr. Dray.
The Acure Brightening Vitamin C & Ferulic Acid Oil Free Serum has Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate and is only $20 at Target. I just started using it but I like it so far.
Please please can you do something on what ingrdients to avoid? Like alcohols, parfum etc? I get so lost because some products have good stuff and bad stuff and it's such a nightmare and I am sick of not know what to buy anymore.
She use a lot of products with alcohols.. It's not that bad for your skin, they use this ingredient in skincare to help with the penetration of your product it goes deeper Same for fragrances it's not bad for everyone. She use some products with fragrance
Yes I feel exactly the same way. It's so CONFUSING. There's this product for that and another to fix that problem! Ugh! Makes me want to pull my hair out due to frustration!! Plus, I have to shop at the drugstore for my products bc I don't own a credit card and I also don't have much money to spend and I noticed that skin care products are very EXPENSIVE! I wish someone could just make a simple am/pm skincare routine for me to follow because just when I think I know what I am doing, I don't! Lol.
The ordinary has a serum with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate! It's called: ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate 20% in vitamin f. It's around 10 bucks! Only thing is its oil based. I prefer water based. But still, it's a lightweight oil.
I love your videos, Dr. Idriss! ❤️They are so informative. Would you mind doing a pregnancy approved skincare video? I'm scared to death of putting the wrong ingredients on my face.
Dr I - you are the best! Great info and presented with your natural charm. So helpful. I just bought a sample size of the Skinceuticals - I couldn't possibly afford to buy the full size and actually thought to myself it is better to buy the tiny size so I can try the product and not worry about oxidisation. When you covered it here it was very validating form me as a novice. Thanks so much 😊
Where in your skincare routine should you put your vitamin c? Sunscreen, moisturizer, niacin, makeup primer, makeup?? What order do you suggest? Thank you❣️ I'm SOOOOOOO glad I discovered your channel❣️💙😘
@@erinjohanns9464 i have combination skin and I'm using vitamin c serum 15% with Mandarin from plum and it's kinda working but after that when i use my Neutrogena hyaluronic hydro boost water gel moisturizer it makes my skin dry. Is timeless vitamin c serum good?
Your videos are always so helpful and so informative! I really love and appreciate your effort to educate. It can be a bit overwhelming for someone new to skin care (🙋♀️) I think if you started a series on RU-vid, like skin care for dummies/beginners, it would be great. To have just a guide into how to start and get to where you need to be.
Dr. Idriss, I just was aware of you about a few weeks ago mentioned to me by my sister-in-law. I absolutely LOVE your videos. I've only seen several so far but I love them! You are very educated, knowledgeable and familiar with all of the skin care products! I also Love your personality! You are so beautiful and also down to earth. I love how you spell everything out for us skin nerds and give product recommendations even on things you don't think are that necessary. It must be a lot of editing work to put all the pop ups in your videos but I love them! I'm so very happy for you that you finally get to open up your own practice in September! Do you have a definite date yet? I also loved the video that you shared your story with us and got emotional. It makes me more happy for you that the RU-vid/internet people backed you up. 😉 I don't wear makeup and luckily I just turned 41 and I still have great skin, probably because I'm half Asian (Korean)/half White. I want to start taking care of my skin now while it's still able to slow down the collagen breakdown. I actually learned about collagen from you. I'm glad you also don't think cleansing your face twice a day is that good for you. Before I found you, I was totally lost about which products I need. I'm more on the strict budget side so I have to just wait a little bit before I can get all the skin care products I want. I decided that in the morning I'm going to do a topical vitamin C that I will store in the fridge then use my facial sunscreen. I have sensitive skin as does my mom and sister so I'm using CeraVe for all my products. Do you think that's ok? Plus they're cheaper than brands you mention. I liked that you do your "nighttime" routine when you get home from work so the products have time to work instead of doing it right before bed and the pillow case soaking it all up. So at night, I'm going to use a facial cleanser then moisturize and then do a test patch of retinol. Since I have sensitive skin, I'm going to start with just once a week for 4-5 weeks then twice a week for several weeks then 3 times a week. Do you think I should even go up to 4 times a week? I was going to use vanicream for nighttime moisturizer because of all the benefits of glycol but the CeraVe pm moisturizer says it's ultra lightweight. Is that a good thing? It also says it has Nia***** - I forget what is called and it's non-comedogenic. If it's a bad thing, why? I trust your honest opinion. Which nighttime moisturizer do you think is better, CeraVe pm moisturizer or vanicream? If I use CeraVe and it's ultra lightweight should I put two layers on before applying the retinol or do you think one layer should be fine? This is actually under my significant other's sign in. I'm technology challenged. I know, I need to learn. I know you must be crazy busy since your practice is about to open but if you could email me and answer all my questions I would love you forever!! I think I can check this comment again to see if you replied to it. I just would rather use the app and I can't comment on the app. How dumb is that?!
Found this video really educating, helps to understand the confusing world of skincare ingredients. Thank you! Please may you do a video on redness and capillaries on skin?
I am trying to take better care of my skin and your content has been very informative. The cherry on top is your energy, I just love it!!! so refreshing :)
Vichy is useless. I tested Vichy, martiderm and isdin. My favorites are martiderm by far (they hydrate more and have more vit c). You also have svr with 20%.
Loved this video super informative!! Would love if you also did a pt. 2 maybe and talked about Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Bis-Glyceryl Ascorbate, and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid!
Love getting the real science behind skincare and not the marketing BS! I was wondering, what are your thoughts on the supergoop vitamin C + SPF 40? Since SPF is usually the last thing in a morning routine, would the vitamin C even be absorbed?
Guys I am an engineering student too and I study cosmetics in a soft matter mechanics lab! You can still study engineering and go into the beauty industry :)
@@JazminZenteno1 Also I don’t know what kind of engineering you’re studying, I study industrial engineering and biomedical engineering, and i research cosmetics under biomedical but industrial engineers are needed in the beauty world! Quality assurance is a major part of cosmetics manufacturing.
I just want to thank you so much. After years of trying HA followed by a moisturizer my skin is dry and flaky. Will kick that crap to the curb and try your other recommendations.
Inkey list and The Ordinary also have a 10% vitamin C suspension that I think is nice for acne prone skin, at least I am acne prone and eczema prone so kinda sensitive and it hasn't irritated me!
I really loved the in depth vitamin C video! Really good job Shereene 👏🏼 I recently bought the Vichy 10% ampoules , I don’t see any Vichy recommendation on this video, should I take it as a sign?
Hi, i try to be smart by buying right product and ready to pay what it is and i keep hearing Skinceuticals VitC is the best but its soooo expensive to use in long term/years… I use SVR Vit C 20% and i see clear benefits on my face. I also apply under eye. I hope im doing right! : ) Thanks for the video Dr Shereene! Love it.
I am trying to add peptides into my routine and trying to figure out what’s the best vitamin C derivative and your information in this video really help!
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is also known as ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate. This ingredient is recognized regulatorily as effective for skin brightening at 2% in Korea and at 3% in Japan. Deciem / The Ordinary offers an Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F for around 25 USD. For best results. this very concentrated oil serum can be mixed with other products as a booster rather than applied directly on the skin.
I use retinol 0.3 serum that has hylaronic acid and vitamin C rach night after lactic acid 10%, I do this in the evening and use 50 SPF broad spectrum during the day. I also use vitamin and collagen supplements. I don't eat meat amd if you are a meat eater try things Ike chicken skin amd this helps reduce collagen depletion
Hey :) I am wondering: what is your Opinion on vitamin C powder? Mixing it with a serum or a cream or with a face spray and applying it. This would mean that the Vitamin C solution is always fresh so there is no time for the vitamin C to „degrade“ - is this working?
Tried it. It oxidizes on the skin. Don't waste your time. Take a cotton round & a toner or makeup remover at the end of the day & it will probably be yellow/orange.
I make my own FRESH vitamin c serum in a brown dropper bottle and refrigerate it. I use L-ascorbic acid as my source of vitamin c and apply it before bed. It tingles, but my skin looks great. Been making my own for 2 years after purchasing 3 bottles of $140 c serum that was yellow (oxidized) every time I opened them. Once you buy the ingredients, it costs pennies to make a bottle....
Please could you do a video about adult body acne (chest and back)? I struggle with this all my life basically. I have been trying to use all the same treatments as I do on my face (retinol, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide) but the body is so much more tricky for some reason, especially in winter. Any recommendation would help. Thank you!
neutrogena just came out with 20% L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C in capsules! they keep each serving sealed up and block light so it doesn't make contact with oxygen until you open them to use! i haven't tried them yet, i'm going to tonight, but i saw them at walmart and they're both accessible and affordable :) about $25 for 30 serum capsules
ive used half of the bottle by now but it stings a little bit sometimes for a short while after application. idk if the ascorbic acid is too much for my skin as they also say on their website that it can irritate sensitive skin. not sure what to replace it with or if i should try using it every other day or something.. otherwise i love it for the ingredients and price
I`m also the person who clearly makes a statement by holding my nose and coughing while walking past a smoking person. Especially I hate walking behind one.
The cheapest vitamin C serum with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate I’ve seen is $64 by Desi Perkins/Dezi Skin. I was on the fence about buying it but after watching this video. I need vitamin C in my life from all the oxidative stress!! 😅
I just found this vid and your account. I love your straight talk style and sense of humor. I subscribed and am looking forward to watching all your videos!
