Join me for a holiday season tour of my husband's land in rural northern Namibia as he begins to build on it! Once again I see just how much village life isn't for the faint of heart! The experience also left me reflecting on my own African ancestors.
Huge apologies for the black bars! Watch in full screen, it helps a bit :)
---
Join me as I share the experience of the African American living in Africa, along with my own in the African nation of Namibia.

I just came across your channel. I was hooked and loved everything about your wedding and life in Africa. I was crying with joy when the family removed the spear to let you both in. Many blessing to you and the family. More African Americans need to see videos like this. Love and positiveness. Your son is beautiful and will have a better life there than in the US. Once again many many blessing 😌

Beautiful baby boy! When you were walking I was wondering if there was any wildlife then you showed the tracks! I can't wait to see the progression of the building on your husband's land. The way you described the friendliness of the villagers was how I grew up in the South. Everyone knew everyone, neighbors kept you in line just like family. Older people know "your people" and can tell you about your family from back in the day. You can still find this in certain pockets. good times.

I've already forgotten the black bars already! I just want to thank you so much for posting. I ALWAYS welcome new posts from you. Rural live is an experience, yes, but like you I also try to imagine how my ancestors lived & how much we have lost of old. I love how closely your husband & mother-in-law work...& her strength is admirable too. Your son is such a sweetie pie & giggling as he goes off to sleep is the cutest thing ever!😊 Thank you once again & I look forward to more.

I just paused to say how cute your son is! The footprints to the "Oshana(Sp?) remind me of growing up in South Africa. When you are African you better know your footprints lol cause danger is always lurking. But we do a great job of respecting the animals and staying out of their way and they usually stay out of our way.

Again another pause. South Africa is so built now that it is becoming harder to find free land but you still can inland and it is not as dry as Namibia. But even in Namibia, if more people came, including African-Americans there would be a push to put cell towers, water and electricity. We should be in the habit, as Africans, to built where there aren't many people that way we can get land for nothing and build value to it. I agree with you that there are a lot of creepy crawlies but there are in Australia too :0!

I fenced my home about 3 years ago when i was home for holidays. Traditional fencing in Kenya is almost the same to Nimibias. Unfortunately when i flew home a year after some villagers broke my fence, i guess they used the wood for cooking. This time all around i'm going to put a wall fence. I'm planning to move back to Africa in a few years, can't wait.

I'm watching and wishing I could buy the plot of land next door. Funny, I imagined the trees to be bigger or to be able to provide more shade...it looks really hot! Your baby is attentive and aware of every move and word you made while you were talking. He seemed so happy to be carried in that way next to you. Please continue to load more videos, even if you think it's not important. Just mundane things like cooking or going to the store would be informative. One day maybe I'll move there too! Your husband was really nice to show us the posts. His Mom was also generous to ride in the back. I'd squeeze in between you two!

Just a reflection on what you said about community. I note a strong sense of community in Jamaican country villages, where nationals who immigrated to England, Canada and USA are now returning in retirement to live, for extended periods of time. Many return to "family land", where they are related to many of the people around them. It's fun for me to listen to them relate stories and happenings that took place in the families of the people around them ( some stories are sad, scandalous and funny ; just life happening !!!). I note a sense of belonging to a place in my friends and I've heard them say that "this is the place where I born and grow". This sense of belonging to a place is missing for many of us children of the diaspora. What do you think?
@AfroAmericaninAfrica
@AfroAmericaninAfrica 8 лет назад
Yes, my mother's side of the family is from Barbados and I've definitely noticed that sense of community when I visit the island, although here it's even more pronounced! But yes, it's definitely missing that sense of belonging. Would love to know and have a tribe.. I will do the African Ancestry DNA test at some point.

Hi. im a new subscriber and ive always wondered what it would lije to live in Africa. im in NYC. as you know it has been very difficult to find adequate affordable housing here in popular cities. Like Namibia rentals are sky high and many like myself are on waiting lists or lotteries which can take up to 10years or more before you're first interview. My hope is to leave N.Y. and find my dream location. i will email you very soon. I enjoy your videos so much. How can one retire there as a single senior and live average comfortable without fear of being preyed on. lol. no seriously and how does one start investigating?
