Gday RU-vid.

If you found yourself here you will want to see the updated successful vid here -- • Let's have ANOTHER go ...
Aluminium welding is something that i always thought was more of a mig situation, however my feeds have been getting spammed with ads for these low temp aluminium "welding" rods.
Curiosity got to me and i decided to have a crack. I am no pro welder and don't claim to be so if you want to see how to use them like a pro this is not the spot for you, check out some of the other awesome channels here on youtube.
Link here to check them out on Amazon tiny.cc/pfl15y
or check out your local hardware. Not as easy as you might think.

This is exactly how my brazing is going at the moment, It's nice to see that brazing is not as simple as people make it out to be. Keep pushing bro we will get there.

hilarious video dude. FYI anyone looking to braze metal I'll say let the base metal melt the rod. dont hold in in the flame.

They are both sections from the same plate. An Aluminium gland plate. These gland plates have to be non Ferris material, so unless you think I Bent and punched 6mm thick stainless or found some shiny aluminium coloured brass... I get it might appear different in the video, but I am not stupid and know the difference between aluminium and mild steel. Cheers for watching and commenting

You are suppose to clean the surfaces with a clean wire brush first to remove the oxidation and not suppose to put the rod in the flame

You should be using a propane torch on the aluminum cans rather than a map gas torch. Map gets an aluminum can way too hot. also for you're thicker pieces of aluminum you want the metal temperature to be around 825 degrees to get a good melt and do not put the torch directly on the rod. Also a light sanding on your work and lights ending on just before you braise will get rid of the oxide layer that prevents bonding.

I'd like to know the name or brand of these rods. Ive used the harbor freight rods to fix a broken aluminum cover on a motorcycle and worked well with some practice but it ultimately tarnished over time to a different color than the base aluminum. It appears your stuff is softer and has a flux core. I'd like to try it. Any link?

Thank you.... I might still give it a go, but at least I know what I'm letting myself in for, and wont think "It's just me; why am I always such a failure?" Another vid says first clean with a wire brush and acetone. I'm glad I saw your vid before taking my lovely spun-metal petrol tank and trying to fix my beautiful retro aloy petrol cap to it and ending up in tears!

Are you gas welding aluminum? Aluminum dissipates heat so quickly, it's quite hard to keep the heat localized enough to make an actual "weld." TIG is the way to go for sure. The process you've got here is brazing.

When you melted the can. It was too much heat. Were you cant lower the heat on some torches......pull the torch away from the workpeice. The thinner the peice the less heat you want.
