It's awesome to see a guy doing instructional sewing vids! This one made me decide to purchase the same machine. I've had it for a week now, I think finally I'm gonna start playing with it tomorrow.
Ha ha great, you are hilarious but you made me hungry! 😅 Thank you for the video, I just bought this particular serger a month ago and you make it more enjoyable in learning how to use it!
Hmmm. I ordered a bunch of different cones of thread online. Tips I got from other videos was to use different colors while you are learning your serger. However, I bought a bunch of black and white serger thread months ago because I hoped to get a serger to make myself some new clothes for my birthday. Glad I will have a few months to practice. I don't remember anyone mentioning which spool/cone is used up more quickly. This is VERY important to know, I think. I need to know which colors to buy extra. It's cheaper to buy online and my local stores never have a good selection of thread colors, even before the pandemic. I started buying thread online a few years ago - so many options and colors and brands. I was overwhelmed at first. Having anxiety again about serger thread. My older Brother sewing machine didn't like Walmart thread at all. Didn't even consider Walmart thread for my newer sewing machine and will only buy online for my serger. And the plan is to stock up. I also bought needles in bulk because my luck will have me breaking a few to start with I am sure. Fortunately, my Brother ST150HDH uses the same needles. Hopefully set on those for the rest of the year. If you buy consumables (thread and needles, buttons and zippers, etc) from Walmart, you will spend more money. You can get more yardage and more spools online for much less. Walmart has very poor stock of buttons. Joann's too expensive for regular purchases. Also very out of the way for me when I can save and have delivered to my door.
chesh, you will use up loopers threads faster than needle threads. just rotate your cones and you will have your 4 cones of thread last an equal length of time. thread ages, gets brittle, loses color, gets dirty or fuzzy. If you rotate cones, you will be getting fresh thread each time you buy. ☮❤🙋
Some advice I heard about sergers, you definitely want the larger spools for your loopers, they use a lot more thread than the stitchers. If the loops will be exposed, obviously you want a matching color, but if it is project specific, a standard thread spool will work. If the loops will be inside, obviously the needle farthest from the blade should be matching or contrasting as desired, because it will show.
in your video you said the black one didnt have thread, i bought the same one as you, and mine had all 4 threads, blue, red, green, yellow. i feel like yours should of had the same as mine.
I just bought this same one on Saturday and I had the same issue with the threading. The manual is incorrect when I watched a RU-vid video it had the girl threading the Green dial first then the blue , pink and yellow. Then it started working for me. That’s not to say I didn’t break a needle practicing it tho 😭
You might consider reading the manual that goes with this machine before attempting a tutorial for others. The "top thread" and "bottom thread" are actually upper looper and lower looper. I don't even know how to thread my machine yet and I can see that your tutorial has issues. I guess you DID mention that you just figured it out yesterday!
Exactly. I feel I should make videos others can relate to. Example: struggling to figure it out for the first time. If everyone were to just read the manual, then why would they end up clicking to watch this video like you have? ... there would be no need if the manual comes with the package right? Video is better than reading for some people. Which is why I make these videos. Thanks for your feedback.
I definitely used serger cones for the loopers, and the needle thread can be standard sewing spools especially if you are changing colors for different fabric.
You do actually use those to hold the thread. I'm using the exact same thread and the machine comes with 4 of those little things for the thread to sit on 😉
Hi, I am a subscriber, I enjoy and learn from all of your videos, for more help on threading the brother 1034dx, please watch: How to thread 1034dx by Mocrafts, she shows you step by step in how to thread the serger.
