Great video! I bought a Brother 1034D at a garage sale a few months ago. The woman who owned it said she had only used it one time and decided it wasn't for her. It was in the original box with all the parts plus 4 spools of cone thread. I paid $40. Couldn't believe what a bargain I got!

I don't have a server yet, but if I were to get one I would choose the 1034 D. It has more metal parts, and more accessibility to the thread ports, etc. and those two attributes 'strength and accessibility' are always the best way to go imo. And thank you Angelina. That was a big help to someone who is without a serger still, and may be shopping for one.🙌

Nice video. I’ve had the 1040D for about 20 years I remember paying $65 new. I use it all the time and I do like the smaller free arm as I make a lot of shirts. I have removed the plastic covers and oiled a couple spots and I’ve replaced the knives twice so it gets plenty of use. I’ve had it for so long that threading it has become as easy as threading a regular sewing machine. I’ve thought about replacing it but until it melts down I’ll keep it. I sew with vintage Singers and since the Brother Serger has served me so well if I were to get a modern machine I’d consider buying a Brother. Happy Sewing.

Thank you for your video/s I am a new subber. I am a male who is doing research on a Serger for my wife for Christmas 2023. I viewed your first video with the Brother, Singer and Juki. I have heard of these brands but Juki was the one I thought I would buy, but I didn't. I chose the Brother 1034D because of your well-informed videos. 11-24-2023 My shopping is finished. Thank you for your videos helping this clueless man. I knew nothing about Serger's but as of today, I know a little more. I know wifey will be happy. She is a really good seamstress (hobby). I think it's amazing what you ladies and gents do in sewing. It's a dying art and a true talent for those who know how. Your videos are informative, fun and you have good editing skillz. I will be showing Wifey your channel as soon she opens her gift/s. As for me, I don't know how to sew except by hand using a needle and thread. I think it may be fun to learn someday. I'm into using leather and making jewelry. Angel from The Bay Area/Silicon Valley CA USA

Another great video. It’s really sad how much plastic has come into play in machines making them less realizable and more prone to breaking down. Metal is still best even if it costs more it’ll save on frustrations and down time. Thank you for sharing 👍

I have the brother 1034 DX machine and I really do not like it. I have had to get it repaired at least three times. I am glad you did the comparison video between the two. I was cringing the entire time especially when you were doing the layers on the DX because I know it is a very jumpy machine and can't take much. I do own an industrial serger so I should not need to purchase another serger, but if I do have to, it would definitely go for the 1034 D. Thanks for the video :)
@Froglynn33

A little while ago I was choosing between these two machines and I didn't have your review to go by. Other than price difference I noticed that one machine was heavier and immediately I thought yeah that's what they did they replaced some metal parts with plastic and may went thinner or cheaper on some of the plastic. So many companies are always looking for ways to cut costs. In today's world I expect a machine that is of same or greater quality to cost more and if it doesn't I worry that the product line isn't going the direction I want. So I bought the 1034D, but was very interested in your side by side comparison.

I have the DX, but it is the only one I have ever used. I have found that you have to play with the tension somewhat to get the best results, but I would assume that goes for any serger. You having 10 years experience on the D means you probably know it inside and out. My thought is that there really isn't an across the board settings standard and each model of machine is going to be a little different. I can say the DX is a beast to thread, but once you have done it a couple of times it isn't that hard...and the 4,3,2,1 is a lot easier to remember. I also do not find that my DX is "jumpy". It stays put for me

At last - someone with something good to say about the dx. It’s what I can afford so I’m hoping to have good results with it. I’m a home sewist - self taught from you tube during the pandemic- I’m not sewing for a fancy boutique but I’d like my serged edges to look nice 👍🏽

I would take the upgrade. I believe the 1034D is a better machine for a little extra cash.

I bought a Brother 1034D and used it about four times. It came pre threaded and I knew as soon as the thread ran out I would never in a million years figure out how to put my own thread in. Plus, it cut the fabric as I was sewing and I didn't know if it was supposed to do that. I was freaking out. Plus, the needles, how to change those? Ugh! I stuck it back in the box and it's hiding in the back of my closet where it can do no harm. I was so disappointed because I really wanted to learn to serge and upcycle clothes but it was just too overwhelming.

I got the DX cuz it’s often on sale and i got it for 160 which is way different. I prefer the D by the look of it though

Does anybody know where I can find a binder attachment for a janome 1000 CPX cover stitch... Without paying $300?

After watching this video I am sad that I bought a new DX thinking it was better. Yikes. I love my 1034 D but its just not working well anymore. Have you seen the new self threading brother?

I purchased the 1034dx. I also have the new Bernina890 and the older Baby Lock Ovation. I got the 1034 dx just to keep white thread on it. It’s okay, but I’ve noticed that after about 4 uses I have to rethread it as the threads get too loose.

I was just looking at the 890 last night, drooling over it really. 🤭 One day

@@BlueprintDIY It is the best serger out there. Truly a smooth operator. But if you have a separate cover stitch machine, then I think the L850 is a wonderful overlocker
