This channel is about my love of the crossbow, hunting, and the outdoors. I hunt almost exclusively with the crossbow. I love it and I aim to help you love it, too!
Bunjie is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels--you name it!--with the "stock" 20" Easton Firebolt arrows, Bunjie experimented with heavy arrows during 2020 but has since decided to hunt with 20" ProFlight arrows from Easton, for a total arrow weight of just under 400 grains when tipped with a 100 grain Rage Crossbow Hypodermic Broadhead. This keeps old Bunjie around 300fps.
Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. She also shoots ProFlights (16.5" variety) with a 150 grain Rage Trypan Crossbow Broadhead, for a total arrow weight around 415 grains.
I am in the process of upgrading Bunjie in favor a more modern crossbow. I am looking to continue to perfect my preferred hunting strategies with a new crossbow by my side. That Quest for Bunjie's Successor should be complete by summer of 2021.
This channel is about my love of the crossbow, hunting, and the outdoors. I hunt exclusively with the crossbow. I love it. Sure, like a lot of kids, I started hunting with a good ol' Model '94 Winchester .30-30 back in the 80's, but drifted away from hunting when I went off to college, law school, and started a family. As my daughter got older, I regained my interest in the outdoors, and I consider myself lucky to hunt on the same property today that I hunted on as a kid. I got the Excalibur Axiom crossbow in 2010 and I haven't looked back. This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...
...and music, too! My related channel, Yankee Militia, showcases my music. Some of the music is hunting-related, so check that out, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, so the two are intertwined. The albums "Live Free or Kill" and "Zombies Gotta Eat, Too!" are available on Amazon.com and elsewhere. A third album is in the works.
All Hail Bunjie!

I am looking forward to seeing what you decide on. I am VERY new to hunting, 3 years in. In that time, i have harvested one hog and one doe. The doe was harvested with a friend’s Ravin R29. I had fired it at targets approximately 10 times. After harvesting the doe, I was instantly hooked and decided to purchase my own Ravin, the R26. I will also add that i did wait for the right time to buy it. I paid $1660 for mine brand new delivered to my house. I was not willing to pay $2000+. Shop around and perhaps talk to first responder friends or veterans who have access to certain websites for some really good deals.

The reason Ravin keeps trying to equate their crossbows with rifles is that they are trying to justify the price of their crossbows being MORE expensive than a rifle.

Hey Rich, If you're really considering adding the r26 to the list to shoot, you probably would be more interested in the r29. They are made alike, just the r29 is three inches longer, thus keeping the arrow inside the limbs and protected. I own the r26 and love it.

Have been using the raven R29x, I was extremely lucky as my lovely wife purchased it for me, the accuracy is almost to good, I only shoot 3 arrows as they are all touching and don’t wish to destroy arrows, with a bum shoulder the crank is a blessing, I would feel very comfortable taking a 60 yard shot with it and generally where I hunt 30 yards is about max due to thick woods. Keep the videos coming

I have a R10 for two years and love it. Out of the box the second bolt I shot I took a vane off the first bolt at 20 yards. Went back to 30 and the bolts were right next to each other. Went to 50 and took another vane off. This was with the bolts that came with the bow. I have shot multiple deer with it and the bolt hit right where I pulled the trigger. I went to a 3" Schwacker this year because I lost every bolt I shot with the 2". They go too far after they go through the deer, even with lighted nocks I couldn't find them. The 3" slowed my speed down to 350 fps because they are 150 gr and they went under 40 yards after passing through the deer. Found all my bolts this year. I don't think you need the .001 bolts.

I took it to the range and within thirty minutes, started driving nails at 20,30, 50 yards and was holding three inch shot groups at 100 yards. Was it worth it??? That will be answered between October 1st. and January 2nd. The scope is second to none with the 20 through 100 yard lit visuals. R26 has a great scope . Sight in at 20 then 50 yards adjusting fps dial to get BOTH distances zeroed. Mine shoots at 425 fps, not 400 fps. Scope light is not great just adequate. Light will drain if left on, period! Carry extra batteries! Use grim reaper broadheads and open deer up through both shoulders. I use fuzzy if too grassy or branches cause fuzzy will not open and stop dead if hitting a branch. Note: you MUSTremove quiver to crank if on right side; you MUST depress button to crank for NO noise-just don't lift crank lever slip out of hand or your suddenly dry firing and probably injuring yourself as crank handle will be spinning at full speed. Easy to crank and takes exactly 10 times to fully crank. Predictable. Scope is VERY ACCURATE AT 50 AND PIE PLATE ACCURATE AT 100-without a. Problem. In blind in treestand around back close to tree, in a ghost blind, Dan infalt stand, or jx3 it's a dream cause of 26 inches. I'm 5 8 250 lbs ... love it, know it, recomend it. Also own Equanox Excaliber Bungie, heavy, wide, loved it last year and in past. Go R26!!!!

I've been doing my own window shopping while this has been going on. Ravin crossbows are in stock most everywhere. There's no shortage of them. I see them hanging in chain stores. The R10 seems like the best value to me. It's the only Ravin that I would consider. I say that, because it's priced under some of the Ten Point & Mission crossbows that I would also consider. I set my limit @ $2,000 for a crossbow. I see no need to pay more for a good one. I've narrow down my search (lowest price to highest) to Excalibur Mag 340, Ravin R10, Mission Sub-1, Ten Point Viper S400, Mission Sub-1 XR, & Ten Point Siege RS410. I can honestly say I like Ten Point Multi-Line factory scope the best. It has nice bold crosshair lines that are easy to see. Some crossbow scopes are way to busy for me. All these crossbows have good triggers making them extremely accurate , & they are relatively quiet. The simplicity of Mission crossbows (easy to rope cock/decock & no press needed to change sting) is very appealing. The same could be said of Excalibur's slower crossbows. TP's ACCUslide system seems slick & safe, but is it durable? For under $700, the Excalibur Mag 340 is a nice package, too. Spending an extra $800-1000 is going to get you a bit more speed, & Rich probably wants something faster than his daughter's Bunjie Junior crossbow. Last points - Ravin was bought out by Velocity Outdoors who also owns CenterPoint crossbows. Good or bad, BowTech now owns Excalibur. Ravin's 5-year warranty would make me lean towards the others I listed. Mathews/Mission aren't going anywhere & neither is Ten Point. I am waiting to see what Scorpyd is coming out with this year, too. I was told it's currently being tested when I emailed the company recently. I do like that the Mission models have been out for a few years, are well-tested, & liked. New models of anything concern me sometimes.
@Deathbybunjie
@Deathbybunjie 3 года назад
I'm kinda in the same boat with new models, avoiding the first year of a new model car, the first version of software, etc. You make a lot of good points here, including something faster than Bunjie, Jr.--not to one-up my daughter but to be in the 380 to 430 range, a tested range of speed for modern crossbows. we'll see!

Late to the game but thought I’d throw in my experience the R20. I bought this bow new it’s first year released and it’s been a lethal killing beast. I sighted it in once when I got it and it’s still money! 2022 bow seasons I shot it twice threw 2 bucks and tagged out. Most of my shots on deer have been difficult shots, far, threw trees, awkward, etc but everyone has been dead on to aim. Also complete pass throughs every time. I’m thinking of updating, leaning a little shorter for in the tree but man this thing hasn’t let me down yet. I’m thinking second year r500 or r29x.

I bought my Ravin on ebay (R26/Sniper, (430fps)Has jackplate scope mount) in 2018 for $1700. Msrp was approx $2500. I went fom an older Barnet to the Ravin. I've killed deer with both, however, I have more confidence in th Ravin. Money wasn't a huge factor, but due to a rotator cuff injury, I couldn't draw my verticle bow and missed archery hunting, particularly the early season. At that time, the R26 was considered by many to be the best of the narrow frame xbows, and the integrated cocking crank sealed the deal (Injury made Rope cocking painful). most of my acquired xbow information comes from you(THANKS) and i typically don't like to make excuses when it comes to equipment. I've been hunting deer (both gun & bow,/xbow) for 55 years and will be 70 durng this deer season. I'm very satisfied with the Ravin and unless I have a catisrophic event, this weill be my last bow! It was as accurate out to 100 yards (with Black Eagle Bolts) as my Tenpoint Shadow NXT and never had an issue with either. I've owned Excaliburs , Pheonix , matrix 380 bulldog 400 and micro 335, no compound will ever compare for what they're known for . That being said , I think Tenpoint makes the best feeling crossbows you can buy , I just wish their prices weren't as "extreme" as their accuracy.

My only complaint with the Ravin is that there is no rail AKA barrel. It uses a capture type nock and an arrow rest similar to a vertical bow. It means more tuning and fiddling around to maintain accuracy. I am also not a fan of the new 4 cable bows be it TenPoint, Ravin or some other. In all the reading I have done they don’t seem to hold up well. Many Ravin owners have gone to an aftermarket string and cable set and that seems to help.
@Deathbybunjie
@Deathbybunjie 3 года назад
interesting, that makes sense to me about the possible fiddling, one advantage of a crossbow is usually the rail keeps the arrow straight when it leaves the crossbow--lose that rail, lose that added help, perhaps?

Hi Rich, I’ve been searching right along with ya comparing one against another. The Mission Sub 1 looked promising but after reading the Peterson’s hunting articles “Crossbows that kill” and “Ranking the 5 best crossbows of 2020” it was clear Excalibur was the most accurate in the tests they performed 2 years in a row! Now to me that is really saying something in probably the most important category. Compound crossbows are really cool but the simplicity of Excalibur’s recurve design for hunting has its advantages.
@Deathbybunjie
@Deathbybunjie 3 года назад
that's a fact, been there for 11 years! good stuff. Anything that hits quarters at 50 or 60 consistently will do me fine, most likely. Hopefully that's not limited to just one or two brands, but after that it's other features that need to be considered along with it.

I didn't know that most crossbow strings only last about 300 to 400 shots. Got over a 1000 shots through my compound bow probably 500 plus through my recurve bow and my strings look great. I got may 40 shots on the crossbow and I see wear on the serving. If u don't mind asking all your Followers how many shots they get out or string before they have to replace it. Tenpoint newer crossbow say over a 1000

Rich you can find plenty of Ravin arrows online at Cabela’s and eBay and Academy sports and I have been shooting the.003 Ravin with awesome accuracy and because of your encouragement... I will be trying out the.001 Ravin arrows to see if my accuracy improves and warrants the extra doe lol get it? Dough? Ok, moving on now.... I could be wrong but I believe that the R26 through R29 series including the sniper packages or x series if you will, are competition crossbows...now I understand that folks do hunt animals with these crossbows but you will be very happy with the R20 and I suggest that you go shoot one but if you like it and decide that’s the replacement for Bunjie then go online at eBay and get a great package for the $ and as far as the Ravin knocks are concerned they are proprietary and the only thing bad per say that I have heard of is that the strings do not last long on the Ravin and in order not to void your warranty you have to find a Ravin dealer and get Ravin strings replaced with Ravin strings so... I hope that helps you my Brother and this is another great video and be blessed in The Lord today!! Praise God!!

Ravin seems like the real deal of all the reviews done so far. I love Excalibur for their simplicity and proven accuracy but compound technology has come so far now it's incredible. I think recurve technology has reached it's peak. My opinion is in hunting terms, many crossbows will suffice and have much more energy than is needed to kill effectively and are usually more accurate than the shooter. Long range target shooting is a very small niche in the archery world but that's where your 500fps will come in. I love high volume target shooting and that's why I would go compound. That was my biggest gripe with my Exomax; that big bow and long 225# ended the fun a lot quicker than I wanted most days. If you like technology and emphasis on sights, consider Tenpoint and the new Garmin stuff that's out.
