What a gorgeous pipe. Anyone would be proud to have that beauty in their collection.

The pipe is very pretty. You did a great job for your first time turning a pipe on the lathe. It is unique, not massed produced.

I'm not a smoker, but I definitely appreciate the beauty of this pipe. I just got into wood turning myself. I'll be starting a channel soon (not under this name). Great work! I subscribed.

I don't smoke myself nor do I have much knowledge of making pipes. This was a first for me. Thank you for your kind words.

Wonderful video! I am very grateful for the beginning of your video and the statement you made. I see you have embraced modern technology with your chisels and shapers with replaceable inserts, why not. I see it as someone embracing the journey not fixated on the destination. I cannot thankyou enough for what I have just viewed, or perhaps i can by creating my own. I have been searching for videos on this trade and your ancestral artisanal approach is truly the inspiration I was looking for. Looking forward to any future videos you may post. I learned alot from your video and my only hope is that my comment can truly show my appreciation for your efforts. A big fan of your work, as long as the world keeps spinning I will continue to turn. P.S.S.

I just saw this comment and I want to say I truly appreciate your kind words. I’m so glad that I was able to give you such inspiration. That is my primary goal with this channel, to show people there is no set way to do things and that you don’t have to have the best tools or skill to make something nice. Thank you again for your kind words! You have inspired me as well.

Not perfect but still beautiful. How is perfection measured? My friend this is a stunning piece which, as far as I am concerned, IS Perfect! It is hand made, and not mass produced in a factory, where every piece is exactly the same. As a woodworker, 99% of the time the imperfections are only seen by the maker. To everyone else, it is character. Well done.

I have made a pipe on my lathe in the past (same lathe you used btw..Hat tip). I used silver maple burl. I wish I had though of that stem idea you used. Looks perfect. We’ll done sir.

How do you treat the bowl so you are not smoking wood or the finish? In other word how do you make it safe to smoke from?

This being my first time making one I can't say for certain what is the best way but from the research I've done some people will mix maple syrup with charcoal and coat the bowl and others will let the pipe burn through a few rounds of tobacco to let the resin from the tobacco itself seal the wood. I'm no expert in this so I can't really say what is the best way to go about it. I didn't put any of the finish inside the bowl itself and opted to burn about 10 bowls worth of tobacco through it before use.

You use untreated wood. You canonize the inner part by burning tobacco in it. The carbon hardens and provides a shield to the wood. Unless you smoke your pipe exceptionally hot, this carbon layer won’t burn and protects the wood of the pipe and your hand!
