That was cool to see. Big Aerosmith fan. Hope Disney World doesn’t change Rock N Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios. Also, the 80’s is my fav decade. Great to find your channel through IG.
Thank you! And welcome to our channel! We agree, Rock N Roller Coaster is awesome with the Aerosmith soundtrack and theming, one of our all-time favorite rides! 🎸
You and your husband got a great RU-vid channel I love the 80s too the '80s was the golden years back in the future of living these memories by watching your RU-vid channel you and your husband Rock
I totally forgot about battle jackets! When my husband and I were dating, and even after we were married, we went to many rock concerts back in the 80's. So much fun! My husband was a huge Van Halen fan and I was a huge Bon Jovi fan. Thanks for bringing those fun memories back!
I glued and hand stitched all of my patches, it took me two years. Yeah there’s nothing wrong with it being rough around the edges as long as you’re happy with it, you shouldn’t feel insecure about it, it took me three tries and three different patches for me to be happy with my back patch.
Wow! We didn’t realize how much work would go into these things until we got started. I ended up having to sew on some of the patches that didn’t seem secure after ironing them on. We’re really happy with the results, and we enjoyed wearing them on Rock Night on The 80s Cruise. Thanks for stopping by our channel and watching our video. Rock on!! 🤘
Nice! That's a lot of work but worth it for durability if you're planning to wear it often. I ended up sewing the edges on some of the patches if the adhesive didn't seem reliable (like the points on the star, etc.) So far, they've held up great!
I must have picked the right jacket to become my battle jacket because you are the second person so far on RU-vid I’ve seen with that jacket 😂 thanks for inspirational and explanations too 👍
This is honestly so lovely and y'all are so wholesome!! I'm turning 26 this year and finished my first battle jacket (the jacket itself I've had since I was 14) and I've been customizing it over the last two years, recently I started a new one and I've already added a Led Zeppelin shirt as a large back patch, the band members' logos that I've embroidered, and band patches patches I'm buying from a fellow patch making student! My aunt was very much an 80s rocker that used to go to a lot of concerts and gigs here in Mexico, but she's since calmed from the rocker life, but offered to help me embroider a difficult piece and we bonded over music all over again!
Thanks so much for stopping by our channel! We are SO impressed that you have learned to embroider, that's quite an impressive skillset! And how cool that your aunt has been able to share her love of 80s rock (and her crafting skills) with you. That's awesome! Rock on!!!
Totally awesome!!!! I didn't know they were called battle jackets, that's awesome. ❤ I'm the first comment on my end, don't know if it's just slow or what but it made me smile big!
I’ve been making my own patches with a shirt that I never use and acrylic paint. For my designs, I trace it onto a piece of paper and cut it with an exacting knife and put some acrylic over it.
Aw I love this! I just turned 16 two weeks ago and i've loved heavy metal for just over a year now. I really want to start a battle vest but patches are expensive! (because of shipping costs mainly) I think I'll wait till I can get a little side job before I start the vest. I dont go to concerts or gigs (yet!) so im going to try and get a bunch of patches all at once and hopefully add patches on for bands I see live in the coming years. Really hope I can start it this summer!
That's awesome! We enjoy hearing from young people such as yourself, and it makes us so happy to pass along our traditions to the next generation. Yay!! You're right, patches can get pretty pricy. We recommend collecting them gradually until you have enough to start making your vest. We had been purchasing them over almost a year - some used, mostly new. Some were souvenirs from trips we'd taken as well. They don't all have to be bands either... they can represent anything you like. Have fun, and thanks so much for stopping by our channel!
I had that Duran Duran album on cassette. The starship patch I though was referencing Jefferson Starship. When I think 80s music it's the EARLY to MID 80s for the most part. After that it was just over kill.
I think a may have found eather 80s or 90s chip from disney chip and dale at a thrift store there is no date on the tag i bought it if you know if it is that can you help?
@@gingerjerzak1948 Fun! I don’t know anything about those guys, except they’re adorable! I remember watching the Rescue Rangers back in the 80s, so it definitely could date back to that time when the show was quite popular.
My favorite rock band is Bon Jovi. (love the patch, Abby) And I'm only 21 but LOVE X-Files. When I saw your patch I knew I wanted a "The Truth is Out There" patch. Agent Mulder is so funny! I was just thinking how I've been wanting to sew a bunch of 80s patches on a denim jacket, but I had no idea they were called battle jackets! I definitely want one with sleeves though, so I can put patches on the sleeves. They look great, by the way. All Keith needs now is a pair of sunglasses to go with his battle jacket and Transformers necklace! Lol
That’s awesome!! We’re happy to inspire you. There definitely aren’t any rules when it comes to making a battle jacket, so have fun with it! I just read your comment to Keith, and he laughed out loud… gotta remember to pack that sweet Transformers necklace. It’s almost cruise time!! 🛳
I just adore you guys! I only saw one or two of your cruise videos. I think I will binge em tonight & tomorrow. Hubby's watching basketball 🏀, but it's not the Warriors so I think I'll sneak on my earphones and catch up on y'all.
Y'all get ready for them 80's.....Part 2 now,. The 2080's WHOA HA,HA,HA, !!! We'll all be over a hundred years old and in wheelchairs trying to jam to Daryl Hall & John Oates..... They'll be their too.
I have a battle jacket! We never called them that though we called them concert cuts! I collected back patches but never put them on I just stuck to regular patches and pins!
Now I wanna make one! I don't think my mom's sewing machine works, and even if it did, neither of us had ever used one before. It was just an heirloom from my great grandma. I'd grab the iron on ones, instead.
You can also hand-stitch them, but it's time consuming. Some of my iron-on patches were lifting a bit, so I ended up securing them on the corners with a few stitches using a matching color of thread. The battle jackets were perfect for "rock night" on The 80s Cruise, got lots of compliments. You should make one!
Awesome!!! I remember when those were the style!!! Who knows, they could make a comeback one day!!! And I love the X-Files. After I watched TGIF on Friday Nights back in the 90's on ABC, I would turn to Fox and watch it!!!
Yes!!! We remember them being in style, but neither of us had one... I guess we can check that off our '80s bucket list, ha! And X-Files is so good!! I've been binge-watching it lately. I love how each episode is completely different and full of surprises!
They never really went out of style, they're just worn by a certain crowd. I've had mine for 10 years and still collecting patches. Most of them are metal band patches like Mayhem, Slipknot and Pantera.
I love those battle jackets! I really liked Van Halen, Aerosmith, Sammy Hagar, Heart, Cheap Trick, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Journey, NightRanger, and so many others. Did you guys ever hear of Y&T aka Yesterday & Today? They do those Monsters of Rock cruises. (Which is mostly 80s & 70s bands). They were local in my area, SF/Oakland Bay Area, and I was a big fan! They had a hit, Summertime Girls in '85 or so. Actually many of my fave bands were local to my hometown area.
Glad you like them! The hardest part of making them was finding all those patches. We're really happy with how they turned out. Monsters of Rock cruise sounds like a blast! I just looked up Summertime Girls and I do remember liking that song... had totally forgotten about it, so thanks for the reminder! Added it to my rotation on Spotify. I love rediscovering old songs like that!
