Donna, I was wondering how to tell the right side from the wrong side of Batiks, and the very next day you explained it in one of your videos. Then I needed to figure out how to add cornerstones to a quilt, and one again, you came to the rescue. I have quilted a long time but continue to learn. You are a wonderful teacher. Donna, I want to thank you both for showing us how to steam-press our fabrics, and how to use a weight to steady our long rulers when cutting. I just cut down two yards of fabric with no hassles at all! (I even used the weight (5 lbs.) to hold down the 4 layers of fabric while I cut 2 1/2" cornerstones on the other end - the loose fabric kept moving on me!!) It's Great!! I'm done cutting, so now I can sew!! (After I go to bed & get some sleep!!)

Wow, I am learning a lot! I have been quilting for years, so I love your old school approach, (pen and paper) but I have never thought much about cutting width vs length to prevent stretch. That's a game changer. Thank you

Did not know about cutting my smashing on the width instead of the length. Always had a problem with a little stretching. What a great tip.

I appreciate you and all your efforts to educate fabric and quilt lovers!! I absolutely LOVE log cabins but joining all the blocks together can make the pattern seem overwhelming sometimes. Excellent concise and clear tutorial. I have never done cornerstones and decided my quilt needed them but was not working from a pattern; just had 12 12-inch blocks from a pizza box challenge at the local quilt shop. I had the sashing and cornerstones cut but was not sure how to assemble them. I came close to but this is so much better than what I was going to do. Thanks for sharing.

Very Lovely! The sashing and corner stones give a distinct formal look to me. Like your method of counting corner stone and sashing strips as well. Sketching helps me keep track of progress. Also, love your sewing machine. It looks like the treadle Singer I learned to sew on 60 years ago. Yours does a great job and gets with the program. Thanks for your easy to follow instructions.

I find that I figure things out better with a good visual. Donna you are very good at specifically explaining the "why" as well as the "what". Good to know about cutting sashing across the width of fabric.

So glad l didn't think of cornerstones when l made my Daughter's king sized quilt with 4" squares and sashing. My Nephew's will be a 10" log cabin squares with sashing so we will see.

I have started cutting fabric for a log cabin on the lengthwise grain rather than WOF. PERFECTO!!! Trudging through my stash one quilt at a time. I also started using my 60mm rotary cutter again. I am not sure why I stopped.

Hi Donna, I'm working on my 1st quilt with kaleidoscope blocks. They are flowers & I have what looks like bricks (pale cranberry) for sashing. I was hoping to just do cornerstones with pink solid. I hope that will be enough pop. I don't want it too busy since blocks are. OK, thanks for sharing your method. It really helps & makes sense. The quilt you did is very elegant..turned out great.

Thank you, Donna! I was having trouble getting my blocks to match up using sashings. This will work wonderfully! 63 cornerstones, 56 vertical sashings, and 54 horizontal ones! (I'm making a Queen size Churn Dash Quilt for a girlfriend!!) I'm going to keep this video bookmarked!!!
