Episode 34 of the 10 Minute Modeling Challenge - In this video I model a Low Poly Tank. The video is longer than 10 minutes because I do an annoying 4 minute intro and then also add some bonus material at the end with tips and tricks in Blender :)

I've been modeling in Blender since about 2015 but more recently in the past couple of years. I've been making games and assets in Unity since 2011 and I'm currently working on a multiplayer RTS game that I'll be happy to announce later this year.
I use a Canon Lumix GH5 camera to record my videos with the Olympus 17mm F1.2 lens as well as the Laowa F2.0 7.5mm compact dreamer lens. Sometimes I also use a GoPro Hero 8, a Insta360 One X and a Sony rx100 mark vii. For audio I use a Rode NTG shotgun microphone connected to a RME Fireface UFX II sound card.

The important thing is that it works. I never could model anything that wasn't specified by it's purpose like a electronics case or some other usable object and now after watching couple of these 10 min videos i just 3d printed the first miniature for tabletop games that i modeled using this workflow.

I'd like to take a minute (or 10) to thank you for these series of videos. I'm just getting started in Blender, and I think I'm really interested in the low-poly modelling aspect, as it fits what I wanted to use blender for (création of maps and assets for tabletop role-playing games) Your videos are both entertaining, and instructional. I've only watched this video and your tutorial on low-poly with blender...and I've got the "E for extrude, S for Scale" drilled into my head lol...

Quick question: What is the difference between alt+e and just e? When would I want to use alt+e? I've only been using e to extrude for all of my projects.

Could you make more tanks? Here is some from Star Wars and Halo if you want to give them a try. Star Wars: CIS tanks are AAT-1, MMT, and NR-N99. Clone tanks are TX-130, AT-TE, and HAVw A6. Halo: Human tanks are Scorpion and Grizzly (On your 117th video you could do the Scorpion then, in honor of John 117 the Master Chief) (That does mean waiting another year before we get it, but the symbolism!) Convenient tanks are Wraith and Scarab

Is their a way to embed the glowing edges on the model's texture so that appear so if you export to a FBX Model, those glowing edges will appear as part of the models texture and appear when imported into a game engine like Unity?

Pretty nice tank right there, Sir! How would you animate stuff like sliding the barrel backwards for recoil while shooting, do it in Blender with an armature or rigging in Unity or sth. else? What's your prefered work cycle for stuff like that?

Hey Imphenzia I'm a big fan and you helped me improve my Modeling skill for my own games by a lot I made some interesting Tank designs but im unhappy with the result of the Tracks. There is no good Tutorial on how to Rig and Animate Tank Tracks for use in Unity and im way to inexperienced in Blender. Its not Quite fitting for your channel but i wish you could do a Tutorial on that

@Imphenzia, you did the low poly racing on Unity. Something nice that Blender have is that "Cavity" which we can increase the SSAO and have the edges contrasted for a better modelling. I would love if you adventure in Unity3D's "Shader Graph" in order to get the same result. The actual Post Processing cannot replicate this in object. So far it does to the scene which the values does not allow us to get the same result for GameObjects separately. Would you think about trying to archieve this shader in Unity?

I wonder, if you could make an "lifestream" of making a whole system about "character creation". Something like a "sims-like"-character creator, were you can modify some values for one "base model", to create a whole bunch of characters. maybe some implementation in at least one engine(maybe in unity, even if i usually prefer godot) so you have one system, which can handle a lot of models, even if you don't want to create each individual model. But maybe such thing doesn't match the topic of your channel. But in my opinion, this would be cool. Because i mainly watch your channel to learn about "how to make low poly game models" :D

Rail guns do not recoil because they do not use explosive energy to propel a bullet (just an interesting fact). Otherwise, a good video but I would like to suggest to do a bit more complex modeling as we have seen a lot of low poly models already all over the internet. Doesn't have to be high poly, but maybe involve more advanced modeling techniques.

The task looks awesome but it deserves a machinegun on the top . In 10 minutes it will be hard so you can also try to give in an entrance in the top cause the top just looks a little empty

It'll clip when you rotate the turret is the issue. Still nice eye you have. I struggle with low poly.

Some tanks don't have rotating turrets. I guess you'd just rotate the whole tank.

@@WorstDeveloper Yeah, I concluded that at the beginning which is cool but then he separated the objects at the end for rotation. But, whatever, it's a ten minute model, let's not give him a hard time. :)
