Yeah, it's a great game but it is unforgiving! Especially the mines in which there is an unwinnable scenario (save OFTEN and separately). The Jack the Ripper level is hard, too, because you have to explore while being chased the whole time.

I imagine the Nels Anderson referenced during "Humbug!" is a different Nels Anderson than the guy that designed Firewatch, however THIS Nels Anderson was somewhat prolific in the shareware world as the writer of one of the more popular DOS Mah-Jongg solitaire games, as well as a little game called Shooting Gallery.

I really liked this vid, and I'd love it if you did more! I tend to knit while watching Let's Play vids, so longer vids with good rapport suit that. One of my favorite games as a kid was Math Blaster Episode I: In Search of Spot. My CD of it inexplicably disappeared when I was a kid. I remember ransacking the house trying to find it and all I could come up with was the jewel case. Even when I had to completely remove every item from my childhood home in order to sell the house when I was 30, it still didn't turn up. I never lent it to a friend. It was always a big mystery what could have happened to it. I think you just solved it for me. :O It's very likely I could have left it in the CD ROM drive of a computer that had died and my dad got rid of before we ever managed to check if there was a CD in it. Damn. That seems like the only explanation now. Saddddd. I loved that game.

This was a lot of fun to watch! A nice bit of nostalgia for me, as I had once owned a "Galaxy of games" compilation cd that had around 300 or so games on it. I enjoyed some, though there was a 2d plane space wars game that was intriguing where the player could land on planets and upgrade them, and upgrade their ship too. I would love to see more playing of these games with you and LGR! Though I'm not quite sure which ones precisely, maybe words alive, or Cyberbox which sounds like it SHOULD be awesome.

A blast from the past for me too. PUR was the one that showed me DOSbox way back in the early Channel Awesome days. Then I stopped watching them and sorta forgot PUR even existed (don't take it personal, I have the memory of a VIC-20, once it's out of sight it's out of my brain for good) until I saw the latest LGR. The memories just flooded back of old DOS games and that voice, and this was the first video in the Suggestions bar.

Yay, replying to my own comment, to comment some more on the video and the games shown there. 04:09 I also liked Skunny and played a lot of "Back to the Forest", "Desert Raid" (or was it Desert Strike?) and the kart racer. "Back to the Forest" however was the only one I had the 'full' (registered) version of. Edit: It must have been Desert Raid because it's in the list. 08:20 Hugo's House of Horrors also was a game I played as a kid (and of course as an adult, too!). David Gray, the creator of the series (and the "spin-off" Nitemare-3D) still sells those games for anyone who should be interested in getting a legit copy. 10$ for the Hugo series and Nitemare-3D for 12$. No, I'm not paid for posting this, I just found out about it a year ago and think it's great. www.dgray.com/hwpage.htm 08:36 From that selection I think I've played all except Humbug, Evil Crypt, Nocturnal Nightmare and I don't have a clue what "NightVGA" might be yet. I really liked Ancients with its dungeon crawler style and I have played sh*tloads of EGA Trek. Never finished Last Half of Darkness, although I must've been close. And Gateworld... it was just plain frustrating. 45:53 No. "Electric body" or "Electro body", no no no. Looks great but I hated it. Couldn't get anything done in that game. Jetpack on the other hand was great. I loved designing my own levels and sharing them with friends. Some quick, simple fun which might end up rather challenging. I would love to see a part two or even part three and four :). I'm a sucker for those old games. Thanks for the video to both of you!

Humbug reminds me of my senior project for computer programming back in '90. We had to write a treasure hunt game set in a mansion, with things to inspect/explore where everything was text based, except we also had to create maps for each room which basically amounted to ASCII art now. Fun memories now, but hated the months of work back then. LOL
