Something that just hit me is Prof always props up the community at every opportunity. He consistently says "Magic is great because of people like YOU". Its just such a wholesome, awesome and amazing outlook to have that sends such an impactful message I wish more people would be spreading.

Massive kudos for the opening, but I knew there was no possible way there was going to be a second one of these videos. 😂

There’s some legitimately cool cards in this set. I got everything I wanted for 20 dollars. This sealed product is such a shitshow.

I had a bundle on preorder for months, but after the Pinkerton fiasco I decided to cancel. Just going to buy singles at this point.

This set will forever be known as the Pinkerton set.

There is no legitimate reason for this mini set. I'd argue the cards in the set would be worth more if they were printed in the proper set. This brings me back to the same point I make every time they do stuff like this. MTG felt better when it was three sets in one block and a core set, for the year. They could still do their premium sets and all the other boondoggles they wish. This set is an example of the many things that have smothered out Standard.

I feel like the Homelands and Fallen Empires booster boxes are the perfect background for this box opening.

Gotta say, the booster box game videos really help me curb my pack-cracking habits. Even though I know the value is terrible, I almost bought some Aftermath boosters this weekend at my LGS. I usually open at least a couple packs of every set, but I plan on skipping Aftermath entirely, and this video will certainly help me fight off any urges to deviate from that plan.

It was great walking into my LGS on Saturday and buying the only card I wanted from the set that was in their case. Never planned on opening the set and now I'll never think of it.

i dont think i have ever been less excited for a mtg set than this one completely forgot it was coming out until i logged onto arena and got the free packs

I think wizards was thinking they could wring out some more money from people and maybe that some of the cards didn't fit with the rushed narrative. It feels like they wanted to do another set in this setting but then pulled the plug but they had some cards they wanted to print so this was a weird half measure perhaps. It's really hard to say.

Brings back memories of cracking packs of Fallen Empires, getting excited for those chase cards like Homarid Warrior and Icatian Moneychanger. Back in the day, we didn't have worry about things like "rares" and "value" and "power creep" and "cards worth playing" ;)

I generally only buy one pack of each magic set, and man this one made me feel dirty. I feel bad for my LGS where these are probs gonna rot on shelves

honestly I think the most helpful info about opening a box is are you going to get all the CURs? from this set from a single box (granted it's not a statistically significant amount but seeing how close you come is a genuine curiosity).

The last thing I rolled the dice on was an "All Will Be One" bundle from my LGS, was actually my most fortuitous purchase as I snagged an Atraxa to use as a new commander. Probably have to skip buying packs or bundles now for at least two years, luck is completely shot now :D The financial savings from buying singles even I get them shipped to Canada from the USA is still exponentially greater.

Not on topic of the video but I’m so hyped to get my deck box from the kickstarter :)

The "snarky" answer to what they were thinking was "how can we make more money with much less effort?" Now the less snarky answer is that it is likely a combination of cards they wanted in MOM but couldn't get them in and (probably) correctly expected people to want to know what happened after the war. The problem is that it was advertised as telling us what happened after, but those expectations were not met. The 10 De-sparked walkers? Good info. Kenrith funeral? Also good, it shows a lot of consequences (11). Nashi? Less important than showing Tamiyo's spirit on its own card, but I'll take it (12). Deification and Spark Rupture (14) do tell actual parts of the story and the same could probably be said for Leyline Immersion and Open the Way (16). Training Grounds is debatable but I am willing to count it as important enough if just for the flavor text is has showing people are not just going to learn nothing in terms of interplanar invasions (17). So that is 17 cards out of the whole set that fulfill the expectation of what happened after. But the other legendary creatures feel like they are only there as "oh, this character survived." Some cards like Campus Renovation or Rebuild the City are ok but it tells us too little. We *expected* the planes to rebuild and these cards just say "yeah, they are rebuilding" Now sure 17 out of 50 is 34%, but that is still far too low for the kinds of expectations they set. I am not necessarily saying it should have been 100% but at least 60% was really needed. So yeah, they probably wanted to use more designs they had for the set but didn't want to make a full one. And since it isn't going into a Limited format, they didn't need to worry about balance for limited. So it was just leftovers. They didn't want to make a full set so they did this.

Of the 3 hobby shops/game stores that sell MTG product near my home, only one of them is selling Aftermath at all, and they've already discounted the boxes to $50. Even single packs are discounted to around $3.25. The local big box stores sell a small selection of product too, and while it's currently at the set $80 price for the few boxes they have, I'm betting it won't be that way for long.

I appreciate that WotC is willing to try out news things. I'd also appreciate it if one of those new things was hiring someone whose dedicated role was to question, "Is this a good thing?"

Really liked the move to box-per-day (even given the entirely predictable outcome), now just to convince you to bring back the dwarf fortress tunes.

Gotta love the dedication to the bit of "How many will we open?!" I think we all knew how this would go, but the fact that the boxes are going for $60(?!!) was an unexpected wrinkle since I kinda just (intentionally) forgot about MAT.

So now that aftermath was a complete bust, is wizards gonna trash the entire concept or are they gonna pretend people want it and print more garbage for future sets like with the amazing idea of “jumpstart boostsrs”

What they were thinking is 'I wonder if they are stupid enough to go for this.' And the only way to make sure they don't try it again going forward is for all of us to make sure it fails hard. If they can only manage to unload them at a loss the don't do it again. (Who am I kidding. But they won't try it again for a while at least)

I bought a bundle box, had fun with it. Pulled 2 Karns and a couple other mythics.

Even lowering the sell threshold down to 50¢ may not be enough to hit that $60

I got a bundle of this, I intended to cancel it but real life got busy and i forgot and by the time i realized it had shipped was due the next day so i got one and got some okay pulls or what is okay for the set at least. Did pull OB Nixilis.

Very Glad other day on day one release...me an few friends went up to card shop randomly an that was out...I almost bought one but then decided to jus buy a box of March of the Machine instead

I bought a box just to have pretty much the whole set. Won't be touching anymore sealed aftermath but I did about break even.

That was more value than i expected.

I opened 3 packs of Aftermath. First one had Nissa. 2nd was varied but nothing to shout about. 3rd pack had 2 copies of Tolarian contempt, the exact same version. Sooo had a top pack, an ok pack, and a dud. All parts of the spectrum. 😅 (with 6 multiples out of 15 cards)

It's like they developed a bunch of extra cards at some point along the line that didn't fit into the set and weren't sure what to do with them.. and then someone suggested putting them all in a set. Surely someone brought up that it was too small of a set for that, so they created a special set type, aftermath, to box it all up and try to convince us to buy them.

MOM Aftermath is what convinced me to buy my newest deck as proxies from Make Playing Cards :)

"Hey, let's put 1/5 of the resources into developing a set, put 1/3 of the amount of cards in each pack, and sell the boxes for the same price! These idiot nerds will buy anything we put out (well, except 30A... and Double Feature...)!" That is exclusively what WotC was thinking.

In the past, when the Prof said "buy singles!" I usually still bought sealed so I could draft the box and have some cards left over. I like opening packs, and could still justify it to myself with less than stellar sets. But you can't draft this junk! This is the first set I will only buy singles.
