The best option for an FFVIII spin-off game is a business sim/tactical RPG where you play as NORG at the formation of Balamb Garden. Day to day running of the Garden and tactical battles when you send the SEEDs out on jobs.

In regards to having less characters but get more time each, Xenoblade 3 does this. While there are 6 characters, you get them all after an hour or 2 and it’s basically the whole game given the length. It did a lot for the whole “party” feel and dynamic. I’m not a huge Xenoblade fan like Xenogears but 3 seems to put it all together with Xenogears packaging. It’s the darkest with two warring countries that translate to ‘lambs’ and lots of similar themes and even a Fei lookalike and even a Fei copy as much as they could in the DLC. Might be worth a play some day given your affinity for this game so far.

I grinded out so many combos before advancing in thr beginning that I was smoking fools super easy. Also xg has a problem identifying cubes lol

Yes and no about the combo/deathblow system. Sense i don't think this information is in the game or even the manual minor spoilers. Each input actually had its own exp that gets earned from using it, so using triangle on the first attack gets exp for triangle 1. With 7 AP there are up to 7 triangle ro get exp on. So for the very first deathblow everyone learns you need to get exp for T1 and X2, the second deathblow you need to earn exp for T1, T2, and X3. For any one reading this in the future if i got any of that wrong please feel free to correct me.

There are really only 4 triangle attacks, 2 square attacks and one X attack. If you input 7 triangles, you'll end up doing T1, T2, T3, T4, T1, T2, T3. And if you input 3 squares you get S1, S2, S1.

Ely has so much flair in her victory pose I had a way big crush on her as a teenager lol vesu more than tifa or aerith tifa was too typical abd aerith was too fake
