Loved the review from start to finished, and as a heads up, I'll be releasing v1.2 (actually final this time) at the start of next month. To clarify a few things, the way Metal absorbs rings a few frames later has to do with the extended ring animation, and Bosses don't flash when hit is because they share the same palette as Metal so having both the boss and player flash would be odd.
Ah, that makes sense about the boss flash now. I didn't actually notice any different ring animation so I must be blind, but thanks for clearing up some matters, and I look forward to version 1.2 :)
spending rings for moves. This is how you give sonic all those skills without being overpowered. Super peelout, drop dash coming to mind. Imagine knuckles spending 10 rings to air walk like in the ova or tails able to super peelout underwater (sonic 4 style without sonic).
Don't understand what's with all the dislikes? 218 dislikes? On a redhotsonic video? Ben's a god on youtube. Are the dislikes because people think the game is crap or they don't like the negative things redhotsonic brought up in the video? If it makes you feel better redhotsonic, I agree with you totally in this review, the positives, the negatives and the okays. The game does have a few bugs that need fixing like the title screen resetting back to the Sega logo and the random times the game decides to crash itself whenever you jump on a 1up monitor or spin the end of level panel or get a Chaos Emerald in the Special Stage. I believe it's the sound driver causing the crashes (Clownacy's Sonic 2 cloned SMPS V2 driver in 68k mode). Awesome review none the less and awesome game Lone Devil.

+redhotsonic Oh yeah I remember that video, the stalker wished harm to your new born baby and it's a bad time for people to be making threats on the internet with all the stories on the news of kids committing suicide due to being cyber-bullied. Don't worry mate, stay strong and hang in there, you have the full support of thousands on here, that horrible person should be ashamed of themselves for making threats like that to someone like you who only wants to share great videos and reviews on classic video games. It's most likely jealousy, because they know you got the better life, a healthy baby, supporting wife and family and the support of us. I should have stalkers after me seeing as I seem to have a habit of rubbing people up the wrong way by accident.
First of all, I like the thumbnail on the left hand side, which relates to the title of the video. Secondly, as I enjoy your comparison videos, live streams, and more, I'm sure I'll enjoy this. You'll always get the support from me. As always, I like how you structured this video with references, funny jokes, fair points, and more. My points: Visuals are fantastic with all the explosion effects, minus the lack of flash when hitting a boss from hit 1-7. Also the artwork is fresh and unique with some callbacks from other Sonic games. Music has a good variety, but only per level not act. The special stages are much harder with hardly any room for error. I do like how most of it has changed a lot, but the lack of turns and vertical scrolling (like in Sonic 2). I also enjoy the reverse path mechanic used in special stages which I've never seen before. The ring formula is fair for the most part (keeps the amount you obtained from a recent checkpoint or clearing an act), and losing 10 (in v1.1) is neat. However, managing ring count is a must when using special abilities. Level design is pretty good, with some being only average with Dark Jungle being my least favourite because of unexpected pits and tiny confusions for first runs. Took me a while to understand the time bonus, but is generally more. We all know 50k = Under 30s. 20k = 30-59s. 10k = 1:00-1:29. 8k = 1:30-1:59. 5k = 2:00-2:29 ... You'll see the pattern. Overall: I enjoy the variety Lone Devil used in terms of speed, platforming, multiple paths, and the way it was presented. Nothing is perfect, but is enjoyable. Looking forward to future streams and reviews.
Holy smokes! You're back! I did not see that coming, great review, most of the points you made mirror my own thoughts, aside from Dark Jungle and the few bugs I ran into this is one of my favourite hacks from the hacking contest. I think I'm leaning towards this a bit more than Hyperdrive. I am looking forward to your review on that Sonic 1 hack that's on fire. Great to have you back RHS

This may just be for the updated version, but you can power up and turn red even without the chaos emeralds if you have 200 rings, though it drains them quickly and running out results in death.
I dunno about you guys, but something that I noticed is that some of the sprites seem familiar of those of Sonic in Sonic Advance. The accelerating animation is the most noticeable example.
Something I didn’t like was the boost costed rings, even as super metal. Also I didn’t like that the bomb was basically required for special stages Although I did really like the special stages, beat em all first try, with the bomb of course
In this game, Level Select: Options, Sound Test, 19, 65, 09, 17, Hold A and Press Start on the title screen Debug Mode: In the Level Select screen, Sound Test, 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4 Hold A on the Level you want and Press Start All Emeralds: In the Level Select sound Test, 4, 1, 2, 6. You will hear an Emerald Sound. Get 50+ rings and double jump for Super Metal Sonic. Also, these codes work in Metal Sonic Hyperdrive except with only 6 emeralds there is no super metal sonic. Fun fact: These codes are all from the original Sonic 2 game! Enjoy!
You forgot this detail: If you input the Sonic 1 Level Select code you can unlock Knuckles as a playable character. Edit: i noticed that the version reviewed is the 1.0 wich probably hadn't that easter egg sorry for mistaking it😅.
Sonic is the only way that the people who are playing the games and how to get the same thing and then I will be playing this app again I have a game to do so if I have a lot to play on my iPad or iPad I have a few games and then it is fun to have a lot to do and it has a lot of games and games like it to play games I play this app and it keeps crashing and it crashes when you have a chance

I’m makeing my own sonic fan game similar to mania but sonic has all his skills added up in the years such as,super peel out insta shield ,spindash and super has a fly but for the amount of seconds that your ring amount is example I went super and have 20 rings I can fly for 20 seconds reminder it’s in a beta test

Unused zone data: ID:01 this stage is a copy of the first stage,has glitched background,ring placements from the first stage,normal collision and has a knuckles life icon. ID:02 This stage is completely black and is most likely gonna be the first stage but with wood zones collision and palette that was removed. Also has a knuckles icon ID:03 same as 01 but with dust hill collision and normal icon. ID:06 was wing fortress zone in sonic 2 but was not used. Level from the first stage,Collision from the first stage,Has a glitched title card and different debug mode object set. ID:09 Same as 03 but with no title card. Some of the level design is great, but some of it is also very cheap. I run into EVERYTHING on screen. Other times, i clip through walls, or die for no reason. But its pretty polished overall and it was an interesting experience.
I think its defintly one of the BEST rom hacks, especially when talking about original ones and not "upgrade" hacks like OFTEN with sonic 1, or sonic 3 complete. Its very original, I really like it!
Will you play the recently released Sonic 3D Blast Director's Cut? Jon Burton (Traveller's Tales founder) added some major improvements to the game and changed some things here and there.
