please do a vocal analysis on tallah- L.E.D (one take vocal performance)their vocalist justin bonitz is extremely animated to the point you can see how his whole body affects his voice
Rise Against's social commentary is one of the best. All of their songs find a way to speak truths that are hard for most to hear. Their entire discography is good for the compassionate human that hides in each of us.
If i may make a suggestion for a band to analyze in a future video: AFI. AFI was one of the big powerhouse emo/pop punk bands of the 90s and 00s. Davey Havok has such an unmistakably beautiful, dynamic voice, and a total mastery of his craft. He's also a beautiful man.
I loved the older, hardcore and later emo-punk stuff; As I've gotten older, I've also _really_ come to appreciate their modern post-punk stuff, a lot. AFI is still just an incredible band. I like Davey and Jade's side project Blaqk Audio a lot, too.
I remember when I first heard Rise Against. And they have been on my playlist ever since. 10-15 years I've been listening. And I have to say, their live performances are even more incredible. Tim McIlraths voice could hush the entire crowd. or make everybody scream at the top of their lungs. with barely an effort. truly awesome.
RA my favourite band and have been since 2006. A few facts. This song almost didn’t make the album, the band didn’t particularly like it, their booking Agent told them they were idiots to not include it. So they did, and it became their biggest song. Tim would also be cool to get an interview with. He’s one of the nicest guys in rock ‘n’ roll and up until 2017, nine years after this song was released. He had never had a singing lesson, but his voice started to play up, and he started to Get issues on an off stage. He got vocal training in between their album, wolves and their latest album nowhere generation. The difference in his voice between those two albums is crazy, because he has found a way to bring the grit back into his voice without destroying his voice. And that’s basically 20 years into his career. Anything from the albums, revolutions per minute, siren, songs of the counter culture, the sufferer and the witness or Appeal To Reason is basically solid gold. And the latest album, Nowhere Generation is brilliant because he has been able to let loose vocally in a way he wasn’t able to sustain for a good few years. Because of vocal lessons.
Yeah when she was mentioning that his voice sounds like its almost about to break, its because it was, no training and screaming like he was was unsustainable but produced such a raw emotionally driven sound that resonates in such an awesome way. the nowhere sessions of the classic songs show how big the change in his voice was after vocal training, the songs are completely different.
The producers are Bill Stevenson (also the drummer for The Descendents, ALL, and at one time Black Flag) and Jason Livermore at the Blasting Room. They've done most of Rise Against's albums as well as a lot other punk bands over the last 20 years or so, and I've always loved what they do. They manage to keep the raw power and emotion in there while putting a lot of ear candy in.
'Swing Life Away' was my wedding song. To give you a different side of Rise Against. This video has a 2 minute "interview" at the beginning for you to hear his speaking voice: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kNSyriOFPPA.html
it was mine too! Although we're no longer together it still holds such a special place in my heart, what a beautiful choice to make to express love and a relationship
Rise Against has been my favorite band for 15 years now; it's so great hearing such a detailed and enthusiastic review of their music. If you find yourself looking to do another RA analysis, I'd recommend "Ready to Fall" to get Tim's hardcore vocals on full display.
Savior holds a special place in my heart. Was the second song I heard from Rise Against and the one that sold me on the band. Been listening to them ever since. I would love to see Tragedy + Time. Was a song that helped me when I was in a dark spot
@@chrisklema9992 That's how punk mosh pits are supposed to be like. Wild as hell but when someone falls you pick him up. You rage against the society, not against your fellow punks.
I dropped my glasses once in a pit of theirs, and someone picked them up off the floor and gave them back before they got stomped on! I had just enough time to yell thank you before getting moshed in the other direction. It's still one of my favorite concert memories to this day!
That is fact. Saw them with a day to remember in New Mexico, and actually fell in the pit, just to be picked up immediately. Didn't even get to thank whoever it was. I was very appreciative.
This song kinda triggered something in me many years ago. It wasn’t a new song to me, I had been listening to it since it came out and seen them live a couple times. It just didn’t really hit me until I was in a certain situation and happened to hear it. That day I made a choice to make a change and walk away from someone and something that I had put many years of my life into up to that point, trying desperately to make it work despite all the bullshit. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I realized that the mental toll it was taking on me wasn’t worth what I was getting in return, so I walked away. It’s weird how you can hear a song countless times and then when you hear it at the right time and place it can have a completely different and profound effect on you like that. Either way, I’ve never looked back since I made that choice, and the only thing I’d go back and change is that I wish I had done it sooner.
I'm sorry about the situation you went through for this song to click. So many songs I've listened to all my life have had multiple personal interpretations depending on my age, experiences I'm going through, or different moods while listening. It's what I love most about music and really highlights great and timeless song writing imo.
This song hits me hard too. Not 100% sure why. But it just resonates. Maybe it is the message of the song with the chaos of the music. Sometimes I swear my brain won't switch off and the noise is just all over the place.
I love Rise Against! Please check out Coheed & Cambria! Claudio's voice is amazing! "Welcome Home" or "A Favor House Atlantic" are both great intros to the band.
I like Blood Red Summer because it brings on his vocals a little slowly. Also, his lip piercings were new at the time and he can't stop licking them in the video.
Has CV ever broken down a Volbeat song?? Michael Paulsen has such a unique voice. And the music shreds. Also, one of the best live rock bands around. Check out "Lonesome Rider" live. The studio track is him trading choruses with Sarah Blackwood. When they perform it live he sings BOTH parts and even changes his voice to a higher/softer pitch to do her part. It's amazing.
I second that she should react to volbeat. Lonesome rider, Lola Montez, heaven nor hell, fallen, or cape of our hero would all be great choices, but that whole outlaw gentleman and shady ladies album is fantastic
yes!! I'd love to see this. I think something like the live version of For Evigt would also be an interesting watch for her with Olsen featuring, such different voices but both powerhouses!
@@AlarikMac21Those are all great choices. I could rattle off so many good choices. For Evigt, Still Counting, Sad Man's Tongue, Mirror and the Ripper, A Warrior's Call, Becoming, Leviathan, Heaven Nor Hell, etc...I could keep going...haha. I mentioned Lonesome Rider Live because his vocals are tremendous, especially live.
I've always listened to this song as an un-love song. Like two people in a relationship that have just grown apart and don't know how to go about going their separate ways
Paper wings is a really good one from rise against. I may be incorrect but to me I believe its about addictions. Should definitely be the next one you do if you haven't already
@@N7Slayer i will! I'm 18 years clean so that always touches me a little differently. Wasteland by 12 years is another good recovery song along with Hate Me by Bkue October
I know this band from a Game OST on 2004 (NFSU2), after that it follow them and now are ones of my favorite bands, i had the fortune to see them on live, and was amazing!! definitely i will not miss this video, regards from Chile.
This is one of my all time favourite bands. I love Tim's voice, I love how they play with tempo shifts, I love their lyrics, their energy, all of it. But more than anything else, I love how every part of their music speaks to me from a place of deep, deep compassion and thoughtfulness. And I think no song encapsulates what I mean better than "Tragedy + Time" and I would love to see you react to it. The song, to me, is about the importance of acknowledging and accepting sadness and grief as a necessary part of life, in order to be able to overcome and grow out of it. It makes you feel seen, it gives you hope and perspective and it is one of those songs, that has probably saved thousands of lives already. And I think a lot more people out there could use a song like that, so I'd be very happy if it could find a platform on your channel. Lots of love to all of you. Keep up the good work @TheCharismaticVoice #betterhelp
Honestly, every song from Sufferer and the Witness is a melter. Front to back, the album has stayed close to my heart since I discovered it in my teens as the introduction to this band. That being said, Injection will never, ever be skipped in my household.
Look in her eyes as she enjoys the song. What a brilliant reaction to a brilliant song. You can see the excitement she has for this absolute banger. So enjoyable to watch.
Their vocals and music are very punk rock inspired Elizabeth. When this genre is done right, its distinctly different from metal in that it remains melodic while still bringing alot of energy and a driving rhythm.
I looooooved this band in high school. Haven't listened to it in years but it still brings me back. They have a lot of really good songs I would just listen to on repeat for hours. Hope you do another video on them at some point. Saw them live back in 2010 and they were great. I never realized at the time how much symbolism they put into their music. I think they're the only band I've seen where the audience at one point sang an entire verse for them.
I only recently started listening to Rise Against, but have grown to absolutely love them. So excited to see this deep dive since this song basically lives rent free in my head most of the time.
First time watching your videos. I was assuming it was another basic reaction channel, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Your attention to detail has been blowing my mind. I'm moderately deaf, so it can be difficult to hear some of the songs' details, but your words help bring them to light. Thank you for doing what you do, and I hope to see your channel continue to grow because, let's be honest guys, 1.66M subs is far less than she deserves. Again, I really appreciate what you do. And yes, I subscribed :)
It's honestly a shame Tim completely broke his voice because of the early punk days, luckily he's getting back up to it again! Last album and tour he sounded so much better
Seen them for their Black Market tour some years ago now and I felt like he was struggling to sing it. I actually really respected that though, he had to of known he was struggling, yet he ploughed on anyway. Was still an awesome show.
Saw them at Louder Than Life a couple years ago and he sounded amazing, but some songs are difficult for singers to perform after so many years. David Draiman is a good example, he's an amazing vocalist but some songs he just doesn't have quite the same voice as he use to 20 years ago.
One song that definitely deserves an analysis is "Ready To Fall" Its incredibly powerful and in my opinion, one of the best examples of Tim's scream singing
I hadn't really thought about it before, but the way you highlight the production aspect of this song has helped me understand the role of a producer in making music. The musicians perform the song with their instruments and voices, the producer uses the band as an instrument. Definitely adds another element to the way I think about the music I constantly listen to.
Elizabeth, thanks for introducing me to another great artist. I suggest everyone check out your library of videos, as they will likely learn of a new favorite. My new favorites are The Warning, a power trio of 3 sisters from Mexico and Angelina Jordan, a self taught jazz singer who can sing just about anything. I have no doubt at all, both will be creating awesome music for decades to come.
@@bse523 Since all songs by The Warning are short, I vote for two songs from their August 29th 2022 concert at Teatro Metropolitan. Can pick any two as there isn't a bad one.
An overlooked Rise Against song lyrically I believe is Collapse Post Amerika. Its the first song on Appeal to Reason and it's an electric, really strong way to open an album.
This the song that introduced me to Rise Against. I went right out and bought the CD and played it nonstop for a few months. It still comes into rotation from time to time.
This is Rise Againsts most popular song for a reason, and inarguably their best, no matter what some OG fans might say. The production is a masterpiece, the lyrics relatable and angry, and Tim is at the peak of his voice. Can't wait for you to analyze more of this awesome band!
This song always reminded me of a woman who I loved when I was younger but let go of my life. Two years ago we connected again thanks to this song and living together now!
I'd love to hear your analyses of Hero of War and Make it Stop (September's Children). They're extremely heart wrenching but so well written and so soulful.
Savior was immensely popular, but there are great songs that flew under the radar. Drones, for one. Life Less Frightening. Ready To Fall. Survive. Paper Wings.
I have seen them live an handful of times and this one always has a magical effect on the crowd especially during that softer segment. They are truly exceptional performers.
I highly recommend listening to Tonight The World Dies by Avneged Sevenfold. It's a true underrated gem and really shows off what M. Shadows is capable of.
How charismatic you gotta be to really dig into every single nuance not only on Tim's voice but also all the work involved in it's production. Bravo, this was a joy to watch!
Suggestion time again! Red Handed Denial - “Father Said” (Lauren Babic live one take performance) Recentish version of Lauren who can sing beautifully and scream with the best of them.
Rise Against has some fantastic lyrics. One of my favorite verses ever is from one of their songs. "I can't bear the thought of losing and I dread the attention winning brings, and ever since the day I came here I can stand without your strings, I'm so sick of all these people and I'm scared to be alone, and if this life had taught me anything I forgot it long ago"
Rise Against was the first band that I bought a concert ticket to back in 2009. Loud as hell, energetic and super melodic. I miss those beautiful days :c
A true gem from Rise Against is their cover of Little Boxes. Even though it's short it really showcases what Tim can do with his amazing voice. 100% recommend.
What I think I appreciate most about your videos is that, you say very much just what I feel about songs like this but don't have the vocabulary to put into words properly myself. So thank you for that.
I love this album. So much killer and completely relatable topics. Re-Education (through labor), and Audience of One are definitely stand outs from this same release.
Rise Against is amazing. They are one of the few bands that I have seen multiple times. And I would keep seeing them no matter how many times I had seen them before. They sound so good live.
Tim's powerful voice cuts through and really adds great melodic power to the song. Thanks for helping me understand all of this so much better Elizabeth! You should try Alexisonfire doing "This Could Be Anywhere In the World". They use three vocalists to get the clean and powerful effect in their songs instead.
I really enjoy your break down of some of my favorite songs. Feel like I hear them in a different way, through your expression and explanation throughout. Looking forward to more.
Completely agree with a lot of other commenters, you need to make a video of the song "Hero of War" - just speaking of anguish in Tim's voice and the emotions conveyed through the lyrics
Rise Against is my favorite band to see live. His vocals are better live, and it's like you're with family. This next part is no joke. The last show I went to a teenager in a wheel chair tugged on my arm and said he wanted to crowd surf! Me and my friend and a bunch of other people lifted him up, and the whole crowd formed a line! The lead singer was smiling the whole time. He got to the stag, and the band stopped playin, signed a guitar, and let him stay on stage for the rest of this song. It was the most amazing experience ive ever had. Also the next song you should cover is Make it Stop(September's Childern). It hits hard.
Very good memories from a Rise Against show I went to years ago. A Day To Remember opened for them and were so good we almost forgot Rise Against was headlining.
God I LOVE the pick up in pace into the chorus in this. It just sounds bloody awesome!! What an excellent song, I have never heard it before. This is why I love watching Elizabeth's channel so much.
I saw them live when this album came out. Good times. Pretty impressive how Tim is able to play that guitar riff while singing. The drummer is a beast too.
Rise Against has been my favorite concert so far. Tim did a solo, acoustic version of a few songs during a break and it was phenomenal. Love your analysis of him, and the songs in general!
When I was in my early teens I used to go to camp at a YMCA in Chicago that Tim took his kids to and me and my brother met him a couple times. Have some signed albums and a skateboard. Brother and I saw him in Vegas in an airport like 10 years later and he remembered us. Awesome guy
Love seeing people react for more rise against. Love watching you break down more modern punk/rock artists. And am continuing my crusade to get you to analyse I Prevail's "Hurricane". A pair of amazing contrasting, yet complimentary voices(at least on this songs album)
The destruction and physical contact is basically a simile for a mosh pit. These different characters dealing with different problems come together and forget everything and just mosh and let everything go. Yes there may be some destruction, but the point is this is a cure for the ailments they are all feeling and they are all vibing together and being connected for a moment
I have watched a few videos with will before but not extensively. I just want to say I appreciate you talking about something out of the "norm" and doing your research on something instead of making assumptions like so many others.
Dance Gavin Dance is a band I've always thought would be amazing for you to analyze. I've loved all three of their lead singers. I think something like "Inspire the Liars" would highlight their funky controlled chaos, both musically and with their music videos.
