This week we are going to delve into the mystery of Ametrine:
Other Names - Amethyst-Citrine, Trystine, Bicolor Amethyst, Bicolor Quartz, and Bolivianite
Common Locations - Southeastern Bolivia in the Anahi Mine
Typical Colors - Purple and Golden-Yellow
Geological Information:
Ametrine is a variety of bicolor quartz that has a natural section of amethyst and citrine in a single crystal. Hydrothermal activity has facilitated the growth of quartz within fractures of the limestone that actually contains magnesium calcium carbonate instead of a usual calcite and aragonite. The walls of these openings are often covered with a thick layer of massive quartz with geometric quartz crystals growing inwards towards the center of the cavities. Some of these are crystals are ametrine. As for its coloration, the purple is produced by iron that is oxidized by natural radiation emitted by the decay of a radioactive potassium in nearby rocks. The golden-yellow is thought to be produced by Iron that has 23 electrons instead of its regular 26.
Historical Information:
Legend has it that a Spanish conquistador discovered the mine’s location in the 1600s and introduced the gem to Europeans when he presented several specimens to his queen. The mine had been given to him as a dowry when he married a native princess named Anahi. She gifted Don Felipe a charm of Ametrine symbolizing the token of her love. This was unfortunately the last time Don Felipe will see his beautiful wife, as she was never heard from again. As Don Felipe was sailing back home with a broken heart, he looked at the beloved crystal that was given to him and realized it was two different colors, something he had never seen before. He felt as though the bi-color of the gem symbolized her divided heart between Don Felipe and her own tribespeople.

Metaphysical Information:

This stone in conjunction truly protects one dreams and aspirations, making it a true partnership pairing. It’s said to bring immense joy and abundance as well as intuitional clarity and release.
