@@TheLongDon because what is the cause of them feeling the need to steal cars.. eh karl Marx? I wonder what it could be that would cause them to do that /s
Weird how it's only a thing in the only country that broadcasts live chases... we don't get chases often around here cause they don't publicize them... so bored people don't just do out to cause trouble and get on live TV... Give em attention and they'll keep doing it for it...
@@TheLongDon I mean, we have plenty of barbaric combat sports, but dudes right. I didn’t see police chase sportscasting on the bingo list. It’s weird, and literally straight out of satirical works, even if it is entertaining.
I will never forget one of the first televised police chases I ever saw, where the driver ultimately pulled over and ended himself live on air and the news anchor got pissed they didn't cut away in time to not show it. This is real life, and especially when someone is in a situation like that you never know what they're going to do and if it's something you want to subject yourself to
First one I watched, the guy pulled over his van, then as the cops approached, he blew up the van. All the cops were fine/no one other than the perp was hurt. Was pretty cool
holy shit you just resurfaced a memory from like 5 years ago of me being tricked into watching it. I didn’t know that it was the first police chase televised that is WILD to know.
So many people watch cali police chases just for Chris himself. He's an utter legend and honestly should have a cameo in the next GTA game (if we get another).
What do you mean "if we get another"? GTA6 is already announced and footage of it was leaked pretty famously not too long ago. It's not gonna be in Cali though like GTA5 was based on, but instead it's going to be based on Vice City aka Miami.
As someone from SoCal, you hear sirens as much as you hear birds chirping or a homeless person talking to themselves. There’s a 90% chance you could walk outside at any given moment and hear sirens. There’s a reason they modeled Los Santos after LA
Wow! It's almost like when we said refunding police would raise crime (also no bail) and far left cities r letting crime run wild we weren't fucking lying!
As someone living in SoCal (southern california) chases are and have been a part of everyday life for us for forever. You could be at the local market, or at the jiffy lube taking your car for an oil change, and you'll see a live feed on channel 7, 4, or 11 (abc, nbc, or fox respectively), cheering for the driver to drive close to where you are located, so I'm happy to welcome the rest of this nation to our lives here
@@nichellekmalvous6688 also ngl I wanted to move out of California for the longest time. Then I did and I realized I really liked California-I just hated Orange County (where I grew up) so I moved to LA for a couple years and am now in the Bay Area and love it. TLDR: Orange County sucks.
We all just need to take a moment and appreciate our man Chris Christi and his unstoppable coverage of all these chases. NO ONE does it better then Chris
As fun and entertaining as some of these police chases are, we have to remind ourselves that these are real and that they have real consequences and weight to them whether they’re minimal or substantial
Thank you for mentioning this, it really sucked for my family when we got caught in a hit and run caused by a chase near Christmas time. While nobody got hurt we could have and I’m grateful we didn’t, it shouldn’t have had to happen. It’s really scary walking home from school every day having to cross a major road in LA because of the amount of chases that have happened on it
Yeah the most deaths from police chases are innocent bystanders and cops. There are real consequences to chases, most of which never need to happen because the offences are so minor to begin with.
What is up with these bots? It’s like their designed to post a comment based of the title of the video. This would make sense if the video was about an actual police chase, but now it just makes no sense. Why are people liking it!?
@@Amiright-zg5gd and more people are liking it! And the other bots in the comments think I’m accusing them! This isn’t a platform for people, it’s a platform for fucking bots Edit: I guess the bot comment is gone now. Guess RU-vid can do something
I couldn't agree more, I hate seeing people in pain...seeing it hurts me mentally/emotionally very much. I've was in a 20 day coma back in 91 when I was 12. On a lighter note, I love your views on basically everything, and your wording of every situation is absolutely GOLDEN ! Keep up the great work 👌
Your ethical approach to these is admirable. Live chases can end tragically, as you said. But it's true that I'm enjoying watching these and appreciate that you are choosing not to stream them live. And, yes, Chris is a legend.
Man, thank you so much for this. Ptsd brain and a car chase is an awful combo, but here, I know that it'll end up in a weird way that actually is kinda soothing.
With Charlie's reaction videos you get the excitment of the chase, the funny commentary from charlie, and the reassurance that you won't see anyone be seriously injured or killed by the end of the video. Masterpieces.
It’s a tough situation because one can make the case that it’s incredibly important for public safety to live broadcast what’s happening. But it’s also undeniably a major view-booster for these networks and to some degree promotes chases.
Yeah about promoting chases: just remember how clout craving people have become these days. The chance to appear on such a live stream with huge viewership is sure to drive some terminally online maniacs to try and make epic car chases in hopes to become famous
I definitely enjoy watching your reactions to police chases, but I do appreciate knowing that we are only watching someone make a stupid decision and not watching someone inadvertently end their life
I mean, the chase is still going to torpedo their life either way, right? Like, even if they don't straight-up die in the chase, they're still gonna get sent to jail and lose years of their life, lose connections to friends and family members, and struggle to reintegrate into the work force once they get released.
I've seen so many people literally beg for streamers to watch chases with tragic outcomes just so they can see their reaction to someone dying. It's actually scary how desensitized and emotionally detached some people on the internet have become, that they value human life so little.
One time I a video of someone blowing his head off with a shotgun was posted in a discord server and I watched it inadvertently and I didn’t sleep for two days, it makes me wonder how people can watch that shit on purpose
@@salemlynn8225 It's probably that plus the epidemic of people thinking edgy = tough = masculine = good. There's 30 year old men behaving the way I did in my cringey 14 year old phase. This isn’t a new phenomena. SoCal Police Pursuits was one of the first RU-vid channels I subbed to back in 2009. LA has had news helicopters specifically devoted to police chases for more than 30 years. On another note, I’m totally with you about watching live. There’s just no need.
It is before that. There was a channel that was one of the satellite networks that they wowould switch too on the screens in sports bars back in the 90s in Canada. The feed was American

I lived near DTLA a year ago on the first floor of an apartment. I would hear sirens and helicopters multiple times a day. Accidents happen sometimes multiple times a night. Sounds I would frequently hear at 3am: tires loudly skidding on pavement, followed by the awful sound of metal crunching and a loud collision. sirens, and the whir of multiple helicopters above. I had to buy blackout curtains because bright helicopter search lights and police blue and red lights would wake me up between 2-4am.
Both tragic and goofy chases are entertaining af to me. Just for different reasons. Tragic cases sure can be hard to watch but are interesting to see unfold at times.
@@astronaughty5366 Not entertaining in the sense thats its not "fun" to watch nessecarily, just interesting to see ceratin situations and what couldve been done better. I like watching police bodycams a lot, even if theres a tragic outcome.
I’m a woman and I’m envious of Charlie’s beautiful hair. Someone tell him he could pull off a pretty good Bella costume for the next Twilight movie night.

On Sunday a police chase occured in the town I live in. It ended with the suspect purposely crashing his car into a police officer's car immediately killing him. They held a ceremony for him and tons of police were at local departments and some followed the car transporting him to the local church to be buried. He left behind his wife and kids. He also was meant to be home, but he decided to help the other police on his own time. Rip Detective Sgt, Nicholas Pepper. He was a good cop that tragically lost his life to someone terrible.
I visited LA a couple of days ago and boy let me tell you, the excitement I felt when I heard about a police chase while I was in LA, in combination with accidentally driving past the ABC7 building put a smile on my face. It's sad but hilarious at the same time.
I absolutely love watching w you and Chris 😊 I know it’s safe. It’s not my favorite content but your appreciation of Chris and absurdity. I’d love for you two to meet
You know that classic chase with the blue Mustang and the 3 pit maneuvers? Happened right here in my home of OKC and the driver is an old friend of the family. I love watching these chases where they pull some full blown video game stuff.
Your refusal (and reason why) to watch/show a chase live is proof you have a good sense of ethics. We all enjoy a goofy chase, for sure. When it ends peacefully, then the jokes and humor through the chase is justified. If the outcome were different, it would make our joking about the chase dark and disturbing. Thank you for you perspective on what you will show.
Like a chase a week ago or so. Dude jumped out at 48 mph. Watched him kill himself on live TV. It's crazy how many views the chases are getting. People forget it's real life.
"To every officers in the vicinity, a police chase is ongoing. Proceed to the designated area." "Hell yeah, lets gooo!" *proceeds to happily ride police cars
I think you make a completely fair and valid point that I never realized was the primary reason I watch them after the fact. I have no desire to watch someone get killed over something so dumb, or traumatize myself for that matter, lmao. They're entertaining when the most injury that happens is that someone needed a bandaid.
I remember this being a hot topic in the 90s when the news started covering (specifically LA) police chases live on TV and it comes up every couple years since
As someone who lives in the greater LA area, we see all these police chases on tv. My dad and i have loved watching them for several years now and they are all so fun to watch. Of course, we need to remember that they are real and that people are in real danger during chases which is really scary. Stay safe eveyone

I was in San Jose on the way home from LA a few years ago and got caught in the middle of one and it was pretty crazy, Cali and Florida…, just DIFFERENT
Charlie, just wanted to say that I respect and appreciate you greatly for ONLY covering the "goofy" chases, for these very reasons. I don't feel shitty or guilty at the end. Thank you.
Yeah, good point. I saw a police chase once that ended in a death, and since it was live we got to see it. They eventually covered the body with a blanket and didn't film it anymore, but it was pretty shocking
Seeing something like that really drives home the point that you’re not just watching something made for entertainment. You’re watching a crime, arguably a violent crime, in progress. It’s real, and frequently nasty.
@@Iluvpie6 Definitely. It's pretty easy to forget that you're watching something *real* and uncensored when it's so sensationalized and hyped up. It feels like any other fiction action movie, until it isn't.

Nothing but props and respect for this perspective. Sacrificing potential views, and thus potential $$$ to ensure you don't contribute to the repo man/running man -esque death TV we have now
I remember back in the late 90s they had a TV special where they got these stunt drivers and they each one on one took turns where they would try to outrun the police. They did it in some abandoned town. I think that should make a comeback.
I remember as a kid watching World's Wildest Police Chases and telling all my friends I want to move to LA, because that's where they televise police chases and there's always someone gunning for the border. Now I don't have to move to get my fix, they're online. What a time to be alive.
That is why the phrase "Just another day in LA" is commonly uttered when it comes to police chases. It's already become a usual occurrence that it doesn't astound a lot of people anymore, particularly for those who live in SoCal (unless the chase ended tragically or in a very silly way).
Just commenting here to a story about many police chases and chases my family encountered while we drive or visit l.a, charlie is absolutely right about how many chases happen in l.a. I can remember from my earliest years as person on earth experiencing police chases. But here's one on the stories I have to share. I work for my uncle's construction company and we had a job in l.a, and the homeowner who's house we were working on allowed us to stay in a small backyard home that they converted from a garage. So one night while we were getting ready to go to sleep. Our phones go off about a nearby police chase and right as that notification got sent to us, about 3 helicopters flew right above us like literally they were hovering over us and the chases was happening down the street from the house. And as one curious California person would do we went to investigate. And right as we walk outside the guy who was getting chased almost t bonneda car park right in front our work van . But luckily no was hurt or anything damaged and the suspect was arrested a few hours later.
I live in a neighboring county to LA and it’s wild. Idk if having someone almost run you off the road because you want to cut 3 lanes of traffic is normal in other places but the closer to LA you get the more you gotta look out for actual maniacs on the road.
I admire your honesty. And you're right about that. I don't want goofy stuff in my head only to have them dead or. Something almost as bad and feeling guilty. I'd rather just watch your coverage of the goofy stuff.
Southern California resident chiming in, ever since the pandemic started, police chases became so common at one point, it felt like there was a chase once a day for a while.
Should have a whole live YT channel dedicated to Chases of all kinds, and it can double as a What To Do for these situations for future CHP or other type of law enforcement
Glad you made your standards known, I have been watching the RU-vid recaps of the chases, and have been thinking about the impact of spectating them. I am glad you only want to show the ones that end peacefully, and don't end in tragedy, for the bystanders or the drivers.
I love in a city like area unlike my previous home which was just small town with not much going on. So now that I live here in a bigger more populated area I hear police sirens almost constantly.
There's like almost 15 million people in LA metro. Oklahoma City metro has like a little over a million people. They had almost 400 police chases in 2020. Per capita LA isn't that bad. It's just more people.
The issue with people being so entertained by chases is that it will inspire some people to do it for the attention. Some people are willing to make the trade of years in jail for internet attention.
Yeah it is, as someone who was involved in a hit and run by someone who was in a chase it really causes not only a huge inconvenience but a safety hazard. Had me and my Mother had been a little bit closer it may have caused us physical injury
I thought you were kidding about how frequent this shit was, since i've been here a year and barely saw any but literally just 2 days ago i saw one through sepulveda
whoever grew up in the LA area knows this has been going on forever and it was an exciting family activity to sit around the tv and watch a live car chase lol they'd sometimes drive through your neighborhood or you could see the helicopter spotlight shining down from a distance, it was pretty cool ngl
I'm about between 40 & 50 ish miles northeast of LA in the summertime which for what ever reason is when crime tends to spike. I say for what ever reason b/c it's generally calm, decent weather year round and pretty temperate unless your ass is parked literally near the waters. Anyway, my mom said how my grandmother was telling her about the city and county back when my mom was a little kid (raised her in San Fran but worked herself in LA and grew up here, cleaning mostly before my grandpa became a cop). Apparently, police used to report crime inaccurately, and there were massive discrepancies between the volumes of crimes occurring and those reported, which is partly why this city's historical crime rates are so hard to definitively specify from the 90s and 2010s. My understanding is that (I believe), with LA being one of the largest local economies and tourist zones, the mayors faced pressures to recontextualize or modify how certain "crimes" were recorded. Example, stabbings, smuggling of narcotics, r*pe and kidnappings, burglaries, robberies, etc. My great grandmother on my dad's side however recalls LA (at least in the neighborhoods she and my family spent their youths in) being no where near as violent and dangerous as it is now. Apparently, it wasn't until the 90s where drugs on the streets became a concrete issue and rivaled gang banging and other nonsense. Her childhood had virtually no similarities to, nowadays, how every day you can turn on the news and crimes across the entire county seem rampant. Personally, I have never in my life encountered a crime (unless you consider Jay walking a crime) besides literally only 1 armed store robbery in my neighborhood, so I'm not too sure I relate to what my elders mean. A police chase would be insane. Most of the bad crimes in this city honestly just seem made up tbh cause while they constantly talk about this and that on the news networks... it's doesn't completely reflect the actual city. I would imagine the number of police chases here to be lower than in other places tbh. Maybe I'm wrong... doubt it though.
LA = open long roadways, spread out metro area, and laws that don’t hold people accountable. you’d never pull off these with all the one ways, bridges, hills and only 2 freeways here in Seattle.
