as a pro artist theres two types of commissioners. The 5000$ commissioner that takes ur second sketch and is happy with it and is super respectful and chill and the 50$ commissioner who tries to controll every aspect and never fails to let you know that youre their peasent paintpig and should be grateful for their goofy ass 50 bucks
ive had both and i promise you, no cut the 50$ guy off ASAP and send him his money back idc how broke you are. Once you get the dream clients it feels like too good to be true, you wont have missed anything worth going through with 50$ guy. the 5k$ clients make you feel like actually getting better and overdelivering, its a total joy
@@bwzarchive708 this is real true. I raised my prices after getting too many inquiries and realizing the time spent is too much for so lil outcome, and now everybody who pays the premium is very nice to me. To work with people actually invested in your stuff is awesome
It's people like you that are the reason that ai art will succeed. How dare you reject my fair offer of $5. There's a word for people like you in this world and it's evil. E V I L. Honestly though, keep fighting the good fight and thanks for making the world a little more beautiful.
This is goofy, but also infuriating. I work as a musician and many of my friends are artists, and this kind of shot happens ALL THE TIME in the art world. People don’t want to pay you what your worth and then try and assassinate your character when you turn them down.
Really? This is common? That really sucks :( contextually all i see is a man said "no" then got shit on for literally no.reason. this is whacky as hell
@@Kululululululu Lemme, check here..... Yes HIGH ON AMERICAN SPIRIT!! And there is nothing more American than shooting a man in this Walmart of a world
Tom is the type of fella to write a strongly worded letter to Walmart corporate when the cashier refuses to haggle with him on the price of a television
One thing a number of fellow artists I've talked to about the subject of AI art has said is "The kind of clients who would rather go to an AI than pay an artist for their work are probably the kind of clients I would end up regretting working with." This guy is definitely an example of that.
I am for AI art, but at the moment that is definitely true. The people itching to jump to AI right away instead of real artists at the moment are probably greedy dudes trying to minimize costs.
So a company tried to buy art, then threw a fit because they didn't offer enough for the art they wanted. So THEY decided to outsource to AI and they thought that this would make a supporter of artists look bad? THEY SUPPORT AI AND THINK THEY CAN TWIST ARTISTS AGAINST THE SUPPORTER OF ART?! What in the mental health crisis is going on rn?!
Dude, I'm literally picturing Tom standing on top of a broken Metal Gear engaged in combat with Jack while screaming at the top of his lungs, "Making the mother of all film festivals here, Jack! Can't fret over every AI generated poster!"
@@jeffreypenis736 Nah fleshlights aren't really a weird thing anymore. It'd be more accurate if the above scenario happened and then the man said the woman told him to go screw a child.
This is why I stopped doing art for the public. In my area minimum wage is over 15 an hour, and no one I've met is willing to pay me that wage for art. Now I just do it for my own hobbies and close friends and couldn't be happier.
As an artist, it warms my cynical dead heart to know that now instead of people calling me a douche or saying my art isn't that good when I reject commissions, there can now be random crazy assholes that will try to ruin my reputation and livelihood just because I want to value my skills more.
I'm an artist too and I'm mad that AI made my job irrelevant but that is the risk of having any job lmao why are you more special than labor workers replaced by robots? You're not and I'm not. Why artists would garner outrage and not any other jobbed person is beyond stupid. Get a grip, you entitled brat, you are not entitled to a job
Like has he promised someone the art was going to be done by poster spy before contacting them or is he just babyraging because he wanted their art and couldn’t afford it? So confusing and I really hope this person stays a tiny minority. I feel so bad seeing all the shit artists have to deal with..
They said, “Sorry, our artists deserve more, you’ll have to go somewhere else,” and Tom’s response was “go somewhere else? That means AI! Hey LOOK EVERYONE THEY SAID AI.”
This is so ridiculous, like even if that were true and Jack suggested AI, well you’re still the one who went through with doing it instead of telling yourself “nah that’s probably a bad idea”, but then again considering this guy’s IQ there’s no way he could’ve thought this through anyway 😂
He even took it a step further by continuously specifying “Non-Profit” as if his organization was on the precipice of completely curing cancer and with Jack not taking his commission he had singe-handedly crushed the hopes of millions.💀
Non-profit doesn't mean "can walk all over society" too. Non-profits get and spend money like any organization, as evidenced by him trying to pay the initial low amount. If his non-profit can't afford posters, it shouldn't be focusing its very limited funds on posters. I get AI art is controversial, but this would have been a brilliant use case if he didn't blow up like a psychopath.
I get sometimes some contract request by some "non-profit" organizations, but the problem is that they use the fact that they are "non-profit" to haggle down or demand work for free, the only problem is that I'm working, not doing charity
@@magnusferdinand But that's the other way around. If the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts was rejected by young Adolf, then became a world-conquering racist death cult, then it would be analogous. 😂 Still, it's fun, I get it.
Here is some generally goofy drama from the coloring book Community, courtesy of my grandmother: So you may not be surprised to know that there are issues between traditional artists and people who use digital methods. The main issues come up when people who use digital try to claim or don't clarify that their art is digital. More recently though, there has been a lot of uproar around people using AI generating tools to create coloring pages or full coloring books. The issues people are having include it being unfair to small coloring book manufacturers who put a lot of time into their work, the price for the book being the same as other coloring books even though it cost way less to produce, and people generally not trusting ai or are just against digital art mediums.
I honestly love this interaction. I don't support the behavior but I do find it hilarious. I just imagine eggman from sonic writing these emails and using his unique vocabulary.
Tom is like the living embodiment of Shooter McGavin from Happy Gilmore. The guy has like some of the worst insults to say to someone and makes it way too obvious that he is extremely envious of Jack
As an artist, the part that ticks me off the most is; no matter how much a client is willing to pay, the artist has every right do decline the commission. This sense of entitlement when people beg for art is so pathetic. Remember to pay your artists well and be respectful
Absolutely! And love the miku pfp. I’m trying to improve my art skills so i can do commissions over the summer and earn some extra money before i go to uni. I have no idea how imma price my art, and I’m terrified of meeting weird people who might harass me.
You're completely correct, and if an artist chooses to decline a commission, it is perfectly acceptable for that declined individual to just get AI art instead. Not the fault of the artist, but a logical next step.
not just an artist. when someone is given a choice between yes and no in general, they have the right to say no. people seem to forget that no is an option and think its disrespectful for some reason.
@@RecliningWhale you're allowed to go to AI sure. Should you? Nah. Support hard working artists (0 art skill guy here) it's amazing what they can do, and they deserve to get paid for it. What you shouldn't do is pull a Tom, and say the artist told you to go do AI because they wanted fair wages for the artists in their company. Absolutely disgusting behavior, and why 9 year olds should not be allowed daddies company, they are just not mentally mature enough to understand how the world works. @@porkcracklins630 Hey man. That’s crazy. They must of had a completely unique thought that everyone else is copying. My bad for not checking the entire comment section beforehand and actually valuing my time to go do other things 👍
I've heard of that before. Someone doesn't get the art they want for cheap so they slander the artist and bully them. It sucks but it really does happen to artists. The worst are the people who think art is just "a hobby" and that all artists should do it for "exposure". Lol, exposure doesn't pay the bills.
All this, and I'm sure it was sparked by a simple "Sorry, that offer is too low for us. Thank you for your interest!" Dude's like this are what makes freelancing scary, can't trust anybody not to lose their shit at any rejection, even reasonable and professional rejection.
@@Big_Man_Enjoyer especially in the midst of the AI debate. I've seen people literally harass artists because they had the audacity to draw something when "AI can do it better". Like people already lost respect for artists over the years, this doesn't help either. People will say those who barely make a living with their underpriced art with love and care put into every piece are scamming and then buy a blank canvas because it says something to them. Bro it says that you're blind.
@@SylverScourge Not to mention AI art isn't protected by copyright. So the idea you can just generate it, is idiotic. You can but legally I can steal it and photoshop into compromising positions then sell it for 10$ printed on a mug.
I mean he’s now basically clearly admitted that his earlier statement was a deliberate twisting of what actually happened, with clear malicious intent to cause damage to Jack’s professional reputation. This seems like the easiest defamation lawsuit ever.
Well, they’ll need to show damages if they want it to be worth their time, but yeah, seems pretty open and shut to me. My question is, do both Jack and the company have a cause of action here?
I'm so glad that Charlie also thought of Metal Gear Rising with the "Change or die Jack." Made me immediately think of the Maxor dub where Sam says "Cope and seath Jack"
Man, as someone who does art as well, I'm glad I've never met a person like this yet. The closest I've gotten to something like this was when some guy wanted to commission me fetish art which was against my TOS. Dude played it off as it being my loss or something. I'd rather keep my dignity than to stoop that low for work. 🥴
I think he was a jerkass but nsfw art is not "stooping low" in my opinion. I think its more about how people present themselves. If he asked nicely and was declined and then just shrugged it off and moved on this wouldn't even be a thing for you
As an artist, who hangs out with artists who take commission, people telling them that they are not worth their rates and then get super butthurt when they don't lower them is depressingly common.
Having watched the clip on the Moist Charlie Clips channel about this topic before watching this video reminds me of that feeling of doing the pre-reading homework set before next days class.
I love most of the drama's analysis by Charlie, but sometimes I just turn his videos on while at work so I could here Charlie talking about some drama which I do not really into, but I like hearing his voice, it calms me down
yeah, seems like a lot of people want art until they realize they have to pay artists fairly. which is why so many companies have art "contests"... they can get a ton of artists to submit work without having to pay any of them. don't fall for it, young artists! your labor has value!
still contests can be a good way to get a no name artist out there. even if its "free labor" you gotta do what u gotta do sometimes. not joining at all could be even worse than joining. its not like artist contests will just disappear.
@@newp0rt Eh truth be told it's almost always the winners who get there name out there, most people outside other artists won't really care who made the other pieces even if they think the art is nice. I always personally like the rare few contest from massive companies that at least give little participation prizes even if it's only like $1 of in game company or when indie games have a winner but also mention the other contestants in the special thanks section in the credits or just even just individually thank contestants. Shows that at least they are paying attention and cared that you did art for them.
I'm the only person IN the company. 😂 I dealt with it well because my job isn't to be cruel or malicious. Unfortunately Tom made this something it never had to be!
@@JackWoodhams i'm deviating away from the drama by saying this: your last name is woodham? now im thinking of wood smoked ham (non drama wholesomeness) :D
This is a pretty text book example of how a narcissistic person tries to get their way. I've had a friend go off like this, no one buys it. It's all to get a reaction out of you at the end of the day; ignore it and it goes away completely. It's good they posted it, these people need to be expossed when they start this shit. Swear to god this sounds exactly like my friend.
The next time he does it to get a reaction out of you, give it to him. A sudden punch to the face. I bet he'll never try to "get a reaction out of you" again.
@@dipanjanghosal1662 they’d probably you know, call the police, or teacher if they’re at school, and the puncher would get in a massive amount of trouble. Hurting narcissists lets them victimise themselves even more, it’s not productive (and amoral, but that’s my personal feelings).
@@AnEmu404 you're right they may try something like that but it isn't gonna help them a lot. Plus from the next time they'll be careful around you. Obviously I'm not saying to go punch your boss lol. But if its his 'friend', then a punch can do wonders.
It's got to be weird to be an artist right now. To be both fascinated by what an AI can do with art and worried that human artists will be replaced sooner rather than later.
A lot of my friends are still getting a good amount of commissions and I hope people continue to see past bs and pay Independant artists instead of using ai or whatever. I'm hopeful as of now
I don’t think it has to be as polar as some people think. I think AI can become a useful tool if artists are willing to integrate it into their work. We’re looking at a John Henry situation at the moment and we can either die fighting the machine like he did or we can adapt.
@@seenbefore2803 it's never going to be that since the technology was dumbed down to just typing prompts and hoping the result is good, there's no skill difference in people that use it and there's no way to improve it without making more data sets from unconsenting people that will soon lose motivation to draw and put the technology to a halt
@@TheShadow7771 I'd say, while it is a useful tool, people shouldn't be forced to "change or die" just because some people throw a fit over how much art costs, I'd say AI should be used more as a learning tool, and the name of the artist and the work they put in should always be known
Nonprofit execs seem to often be unhinged. My sister worked for one once and her boss was one the most evil person I have ever even heard about. She sounded almost just like this guy based on the stories I've heard.
I think some people work in non-profit organizations to make themselves feel better or feel morally above others so when they do shitty things they can use the non-profit as a "get out of jail free card" for being mean/bad.

As an artist who commissions other fellow artist are IG….this is so disappointing. It’s the principle..I never posted my artwork bc I always was scared of ppl stealing my art but now w ai’s social media will never see a finished piece from me again.
It's so ironic that Tom accuses the poster company of underpaying artists, when accepting his lowball offer would mean that their poster artists would be underpaid. Sounds like Toma's projecting his desire to underpay artists onto the first promotional company he contacted.
I have never seen someone that thought the really bad villain line from Happy Gilmore was a good idea "I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast" "you eat shit for breakfast?"
I need to know what Charlie is looking at while he does his summaries of situations. If he's not reading a bullet point list or summation he's written, I'm impressed. Few if any people recognize Charlie's effortless summaries, including deadpan comical commentary.
All I could think was that Tom probably broke a glass cup in his bath robe and screamed, "You will rue the day you crossed me jack." When jack said no.

@@21Malkavian Well, it’s literally defamation. If the art company wants to sue, they have a pretty open and shut case. There’s a good chance that he’s hung his company with this.
When you run a film festival, literally an art festival, and outsource any artistic part of it to AI, you should be laughed at and never taken seriously in any artistic endeavor ever again.
@@botcore sure, events specifically for AI or AI vs human, that would be interesting for sure. An event built around human made art shouldn't use AI for any artistic purpose, its taking more ey away from artists and wreaks of profit-first mentality. If they want to use AI for logistics, structure, safety, information distribution, that makes sense. I'm not saying the existence of AI art is inherently a problem nor am I saying it should be illegal to use AI art in this situation, just that its a shitty thing to do.

as an artist, thank you for taking this to light, this is something I'd be sharing to my family as a joke on my birthday (March 2) to laugh at the smooth brain nonsense, also if this happens to me I'll be more prepared for it
I can understand PosterSpy's decline. I've recently been declining commissions cause people wanna pay me $2 an hour for my art. If it takes me 5-6 hours to finish a drawing I shouldn't get paid $10-12 for my work! That's a low ball especially considering my art doesn't look like baby's first drawing like most artist who get paid more cause their art is digital. I get you can do more with digital art, but that doesn't disregard the time n' effort I put into my work! I'd at least want $7 an hour making the standard total of my art $35-42 a piece if I'm spending 5-6 hours on a single piece. Especially when digital artist can make a piece that looks worse than mine n' paid more than what I'm asking for.
I think it’s the opposite. He has the ultimate ability to make every silly and petty drama sound like the most epic battles by narrating the story in the most extravagant way possible.
