When we talk about discrimination, we usually consider race, gender, and age. But what about size? Have you ever considered whether your weight impacts your ability to get a job or get proper treatment in the doctor’s office? Join Madison A. Krall for an in-depth look at the last accepted prejudice: fat. Madison A. Krall is a twentysomething health and medicine student based in Denver. In addition to academic writing and teaching, she loves finding ways to incorporate wine and cheese into every meal, discovering the love languages of strangers, and playing cribbage with her super cool family. As a proud Christian feminist, Madison adamantly believes we live in a world where people are inherently good and equality is possible. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

A 3rd world is a developing country. This term was used during the cold war so developing usually focused on specifically the military and nuclear weapons. Now it doesn't mean the same thing, and it is not as accurate, so most 3rd world countries are the exception.

I actually do feel annoyed when people tell me I lost weight when I clearly have not. It feels like they're lying to me. Even though it's positive to let people know that it's a good thing they lost weight, I have lost weight from illnesses before, including stomach issues. It's not a good thing when you lose literally 25 pounds in two weeks or less, even WITH exercise and good dieting.

@@Okalani5000 what you are saying actually really annoys me. You act like being skinny doesn't have it's disadvantages. I am 6'3 and only weigh 65 kilos, which is a bit on the light side. I get told constantly to put on weight and get told to eat more. Every one has a perfect body that they want to achieve but many people don't try hard enough to get there. You shouldn't shift the blame to us about not being fit. Sure genetics don't help but you only bring it on yourself. I ate garlic, which is good for the colon, Ginger, which is good for the stomach, and a couple slices of potato bread. I'm still over 300 pounds. I also ate an apple, a small piece of candy, and a small chocolate ball with nuts in it. Hmm. What are you eating today? Is it the same? If no, why is it any less healthy or more healthy than my diet?
@nihilly_9886
@nihilly_9886 5 лет назад
@@Okalani5000 are you also exersising? Unless you have some sort of disorder you can't possibly be going to the gym and eating healthy and still be 300 pounds. Maybe you have started your journey and if that's the case, I hope it goes well. But it sounds like you have been doing this for a while. The thing I don't like about this movement is that heavier people will readily blame anything but themselves. I hear people say 'I eat healthier than you do' but never leave the couch. It's hard to lose weight, but don't complain about a problem you put yourself in in the first place.

@melissav3894
@melissav3894 5 лет назад
Okalani5000 if your eating healthy and exercise and still 300 lbs then you have to go to the doctor right away. Because that is almost impossible unless you have a medical disorder and even certain medical disorders don’t make you that overweight. For example I have PCOS, I do gain weight easier and it is harder for me to lose weight. But average weight gain from my disorder is 20-50 lbs at the most. My doctor recommended an anti inflammatory diet to manage my weight and symptoms. I was about 40lbs overweight at the time I started my diet and I knew I was eating the wrong things and overeating as well. Currently i am back at a normal BMI. I have to eat les calories than the average woman and I stay away from gluten, dairy, and processed sugar. If you are honestly consuming the recommended calories and you are active on top of that. Then something medically is seriously wrong.

I don’t know where they got the idea that you shouldn’t complement people on their weight loss. Does it imply they didn’t look good before? Yes but the person who lost already KNOWS that and lost BECAUSE of that. To tell them they no longer look like that is a huge confidence boost.

the fact is, the cost to the UK with our universal healthcare system is over £2 billion for smoking, £4 billion for old people, and £6 billion for obesity. these are rough estimates on the lower end of estimation. when obesity becomes a worse problem than smoking and our aging population, we (literally) cannot afford to consider the feelings of obese people.

Given that I believe with you that everyone deserves the same love hope respect kindness and forgiveness. Please walk a mile in someone's life before we know what makes each of us unique. Let's celebrate the differences as we have been so graciously asked to do for all sections of society. When we say less is more, more or less, we are ignoring that more will always be more. The more the merrier. 😆
