This isn't just a change to King's throw mechanics specifically, but all throw break scenarios in the game. Throws are way better in general in Tekken 8. King is a character with multiple throws that have the same startup animation(your tell on how to break the grab), but require different button inputs to break the throws, putting you in a straight up 50/50 guessing game scenario. King will be fine.

As a king main you really have to learn how to box. Chain throws are a crutch you cant reliably rely on once you get to a certain point. He has plenty of tools, especially in this game

bro made a whole video yapping about not being able to RDC people to death by mashing the ki charge input (you could do this for all chain throws in T7 too) these are all positive changes, and throws STILL need significant nerfs (no more fucking tracking throws, you need to play the sidestep mindgame too, its not a single player game) breaking them SHOULD be easier because you're expecting someone to lab 50+ chain throw animations individual break timing whilst you dribble on the controller and do 80+ damage off a single sequence from a i12 homing move with CH properties. you got tracking throws, you are literally now the BEST CH CHARACTER IN THE GAME, i12/i10 grabs, braindead iSW (it was already easier than other iWR moves) king players have no enemies man, that's the only way they can put out videos like this about good changes

Wait im confused? Are you talking about king or usually mechanic changes? If u think holding down a button vs spamming a button for your life for (chain) grabs is specifically a "king nerf" i think you may need to reconsider this video.

Holding down the button is way easier for your fingers, people would just spam the input before hoping it would work, until it doesn't and you take 110 damage, this isn't really a nerf because King is a grappler, due to this fact his majors were, air grabs, practical input grabs, and chain grabs, and Pressure. The input of a grab escape input can be easily switch up due to being able to change the grab between each chain. His chain throws, Piledriver, his DB(FC)2+3, and his FHCF2 I believe have the same grab animation, however have different breaks. Even with this "Nerf" his grabs are still going to be a nightmare, because now it's less about skill, and more about guessing the animation of the grab.

I understand where you're coming from as a life-long King fan who doesn't really mesh with him in Tekken 8, and its because of the chain grabs. I used to like feeling rewarded for taking the grab further -- the element of surprise was part of those moves being good back in the PS1/2 days. Also, like you mentioned, it felt reasonable getting rolling death cradled in Tekken Tag 1, because you knew the guy had to break his fingers to get it. At that point, I'm not even mad I got hit -- I'm just impressed. The trade off Namco made was this: how about we let everyone do all kings grabs reasonably easy, but we make the counter play easy too. So now when you're dealing with the chain grab, the system is more what you're interfacing with, since the execution is a given. All you need to do is hold, and all the king needs to do is macromash and boom. It's fair, but its braindead. Utilizing his specific 1 break, 2 break options and going alternate routes should now be the zest of a king's grab game. Before, you only really needed rolling death cradle and maybe a few others. Now it feels like the game is making the other options more attractive if only for the mental stack.

Idk because in tekken 7 you could set up your triggers to make kings death cradle a 4 button input which completly Trivializes the need to buffer inputs. What makes the barrier to entry more accessible and not legacy gate kept.

It's fine. At least now I can also break dragunov's throws easier. But I think they could change some of his throws, the ones that do less damage, to be unbreakeable. There are some throw routes that simply not worth it.

I can promise you that King still has incredibly strong grabs. I've still got a full corkscrew piledriver on someone who held the punch button, I just happened to guess right every time and they guessed wrong. I promise you can still use him, it's just going to get harder at higher levels. Stick to jabs and pokes, and then mix in a Giant Swing, once they start crouching GS, hit them with the Freedom Face Buster. I believe in you, friend.

Making King’s grabs easier to break does not lower the skill *ceiling*, it lowers the skill *floor*. Learning the timing to break all of King’s throws isn’t mastery, it’s homework - rote memorization that’s required to play the game at an intermediate level. Removing this only makes King weaker if you’re relying on knowledge checks to win - they still have to correctly tech the throw, which is the actual mixup. It’s the same story with making the chaingrabs easier to execute. In fact it’s even more the case with that. You seem to have missed this, but the more complex chaingrab inputs aren’t gone. Performing them deals more damage than just mashing through the chaingrab. It lowers the barrier of access to playing King (the skill floor), while still rewarding the players who want to go the extra mile and master the character (the skill ceiling).

If it's true you can just hold then it's a horrific nerf because it made grab breaking ez af against a character who's mostly based in grabs. It ruins King's potential against anyone but newbies.

I play king on rank EVERY SINGLE DAY and I'm just tired of it. I try to use characters who actually cause tekken's mechanics are by far the best there is. But then theres alwsys a king or if not a king someone who's mastered how to juggle players to the point where its not even match. I'd love to see tekken try different modes cause a pure hand to hand mode would make it the best fighting game out there

I'm Kishin in Tekken 8 with King and don't worry, this King is the strongest version of the character in the saga. Chain holds are very easy to do, you can even spam ki charge so it is also normal that they can break easily. Chain holds are not recommended, it is much better to use holds such as Muscle Buster, Tijuana and especially Giant Swing. 10 frames and 70 damage with blue sparks? That's amazing, even better when there are unblockable counterattack grabs in this game

As a king main, I actually welcome making the breaks easier (tho I do really dislike that they made the input easier and less damaging). King's chaingrabs are already a 1/2/1+2 break mixup, why on earth do you have to time it properly too? I've lost count of how many times I've been hit by a braindead king's RDC on T7 even when I'm breaking BOTH the chicken wing with 1+2 AND THEN the RDC with 2 properly? With this change you are forced to learn more branches and actually use your brain instead of spamming the RDC all the time and hope that the opponent misstimes the break.

Any trash green rank in tekken 7 could execute all of his chain grabs without a problem. Its not that hard. Only fair to make breaking the chains easier or it becomes abusable so easily.

King is another Zangief. Minimal action and grabs are the strategy. I am hoping Harada evens the playing field so King players actually have to play the game.

Are you seriously talking about being concerned that the game is made easier by throw breaks being able to be buffered when King became one of the most braindead characters in the game? Throws track now, WR moves are easier to perform, so now his 50/50 mixup game between his WR throw and his Giant Swing is a lot easier to do, unbreakable throws that lead to Heat that are also mixed up with safe mids, one of the most absurd armor moves in the game that is only -10 on block, has pushback and deals tons of damage as well as knocking down, lows that are safer on block, lows that leave him on the ground, so can't be properly punished, a Heat Smash that's stupidly fast and is as good on block as it is on hit, if not better, all that coupled with lots of evasion with his Jaguar Step, that allows him to quickly get away from anything without having to actually learn a decent backdash...There's no braincells required to play King now. I've faced Kings in blue ranks that had the fundamentals of a beginner, who ranked up just by spamming his armor moves and his Heat Smash over and over again. Oh, and of course they disconnect once they realize they can't win on spamming alone. Kings and Dragunovs are one of the worst parts of Tekken 8 online right now.

My brother in Christ you are not an “Average Player” you were Mentor with King in T7. Remembering chain grab inputs is not a skill nor does it require execution. This not a major Nerf to his gameplay, King is top 5 in this game. You might be able to realise this if you weren’t a scrub and could do ISW and GS 50/50’s.

Dafuq, it's still not easy. It's a 50/50 mix-up. The opponent has to guess the right button, but i guess new king players dont know that high-level kings like myself don't see that as a problem it makes even more fun using everything instead of the same throw

you'll never pull off a rdc or backdrop chain combos in blue rank above anyway. I do not think they "weaken" king as they buff throw in Tekken 8. also, if you hold down the button to break throw, it won't immediately break a grab, you will still get a decent 50 ish damage before the break happened. king is definitely one of the best character in the game and this "nerf" doesn't change anything to his kit other than scrubbing low rank players
