Thank you so much for documenting your heat training journey! I’ve been heat trained my whole life and loved it, never had a perm. My hair thrived and always long. Once I went to college though, I felt the pressure to wear my natural texture because with my straight hair it almost felt like I wasn’t “Black” enough. That period of my hair, I loved seeing how my 4a-4b curls thrived. But after 4 years, I missed heat training and my hair was actually breaking off from all the tangled in it’s natural state. Now I’m back to heat training and my hair is waist length. I just wanted to say thank you so much for these videos! There’s not many heat trained naturals and you remind me to have confidence to wear my hair the way it works for me. The natural hair movement is so needed but as Black women, I think we need to embrace whatever we want to do with our hair. Whether straightened, natural Afro, relaxed or colored, it’s all beautiful!

Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. Also, thank you for sharing your experience as a heat trained (straight hair) natural. I love receiving comments like yours because it shows that there are many women who choose to heat train. Often in the black community, we feel pressured to fit into a mold of blackness defined by others. This mold of blackness is dictated by others' expectations/experiences of what it means to be black and not our own. The truth is there are many different types of black people in the world and our experiences vary, that is why our opinions vary. People who paint us with one brush truly frighten me. Your last statement couldn’t be any truer. No matter how our hair is presented, it is all beautiful. You said that I “remind you to have confidence”, but your comment has revitalized me to continue to make videos. Every day I deal with a sea of hate comments and comments like yours really make my day. God bless you and thank you so much.

@@DynamicTouch i literally cannot wrap my mind around why someone would think it was okay to send you hate simply for talking about hair. I’m really sorry you had to go through that. Thank you for making these videos, they are also very helpful to me, as I am starting my heat training journey as well! I hope your week is stress free, highly peaceful! Love and Light💋

I had never heard of the big chop before a few years ago on RU-vid. All the people I know who stopped relaxing their hair for whatever reason would trim their hair IF they had split ends & would press their hair every two weeks & sometimes wear french braids for a month or two back & back & forth. Maybe it was easy for the women I knew because they had a professional pressing with a pressing comb by an o.g. stylist so I guess they didn't have to deal with the two textures themselves. I wish you the best with your hair.

Concerning the big chop - Yes, I believe that the big chop is a youtube phenomenon. I think it became popular due to the fact that women who were transitioning from relaxed to natural had difficulty dealing with two textures/patterns while trying to maintain healthy hair (during their transition to fully natural hair). Big chops are also a good way to get rid of damaged hair quickly, without having to resort to spending tons of money on hair repair treatments (you also save time and money). You get to start fresh immediately. I think that trimming hair only when seeing split ends is a very good practice, which is what I do currently. I also love using the split ender pro. I have been using it for years.

Concerning the heat training methods you mentioned: My technique for heat training is very different from older/other methods, due to the fact that it concentrates on maintaining the integrity of the curl pattern for as long as possible. Which is why, a year into my heat training journey, my curls are so lively that I still get single strand knots. The routines my sister creates for me and her clients are heat conscious, and focuses on long term growth, health, and success. That Is also a reason why I deal with two different textures/patterns. As I stated in the video, as women heat train their hair, the behavior of their hair begins to shift and their hair begins to adjust to it’s brand new state of staying straight, or “trained to like to stay straight”. This is a trait only seen with tightly coiled hair because even without heat, black women can “train” their hair into becoming receptive to other hairstyles such as; Wash and Go’s, Twist Out’s, etc. That woman's older hair then becomes used to staying straight and now has an altered texture/curl pattern, while their new growth has not been “trained” and has the original pattern. The new growth (virgin hair) will then have to go through the heat training process in order to behave like the older portion of the hair. Having two textures is a sign that your hair is not breaking off where the two textures meet and is prospering from the routine you have set. This process will ultimately repeat itself until one no longer wishes to heattrain. So, maybe the reason why no one has talked about the two different textures/patterns is probably one of two reasons: 1: if a person has never experienced their natural texture to the full extent, and spent their life relaxing their hair, and then later transfer to heat training, they would never notice the difference. 2: If someone is doing heat training every two weeks as you stated, then their hair (new growth) never really grows out that long before being altered by heat. Thus they were never aware of the very small/micro changes that happen to the hair strand during the heat training process. Thank you and I can’t wait for more people to see what I am working on! It’s exciting!

@@celi9133 Yes, you all are correct. What I meant to say is that Afro Latinas and Spanish women have approached our company www.thewaitingroomnhb.com in order to help with their 3c-3b-3a hair as well. Some want to heat train, while others want to learn how to go natural. It is very interesting because within the black community, 3 textured hair is elevated, while in the afro latina, latina community, it is seen as one of the worst types of hair.

Felt that I’ve been natural all my life, dc, and barely style my hair in anything other than a bun and yet I get the worse single strand knots and breakage and it seems like length retention is easier when my hair is stretched/ has heat in it so I def am going to try that

I wish I could, but I can't. foreign hair sites/companies are already reaching out to us. I would be devastated If my ideas were stolen. That way you can win products. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sTGUNza-NMk.html Also, our beginners guide is very helpful and affordable! Although it doesn't go into heat training, it will start you on the right path when it comes to flat iron techniques that a lot of people are unfortunately unaware of. It is also a good way to see if our program is for you! www.thewaitingroomnhb.com/zion-2/p/the-flat-iron-manual Thanks for stopping by and I hope this helps!
