Don’t you love how she talks to her “employees” with the exact same level of respect, kindness and openness as she does with the biggest of stars? I know this should be taken for granted but I often find this is quite rare.
A lot of hate gets directed towards Rahul Desai, so i felt compelled to write this. I hope he reads it: I have been reading your reviews for a while now and I have come to the conclusion that you are the most perceptive and intelligent film critic in the country right now. The most. I am absolutely in love with your writing- the wit and humour, the economy, the minute observations and perceptive comments. Its absolutely wonderful, given the kind of films you have to review. Please keep up the great work. A small request: would love to see more essays from you on cinema. And not bollywood films, please- the material is so vapid that the writing tends to be nothing more than deserved ridicule. Its an attempt at making sense of moronic shit. There is vastly superior cinema that you watch and i'd love to see essays on them and on the very medium of film. Thanks.
I'm glad you have put out this comment , or i was about to put one . Never was a review where he didnt awe me with his profound sensibilities . And just to acquaint you , he does sometimes write weekly features for THE HINDU in the cinema column . After religiously reading him for almost a year now , i can certainly assert he is peerless atleast in THIS country . I only wish he gets more (deserved)traction . This comment too is so a minuscale attempt towards it . Anybody reading this , you'll definitely thank me later for paying heed !
Aw, wow, that's really nice to know! Thank you. I try to make some of the reviews (short films, too) into thematic essays (though, obviously, I can't do it with movies that really don't try), but I do some essay writing in The Hindu twice a month.
Nilanjan Dey U just saved me a job - was going to write a few words of encouragement for Rahul, too - I like the guy, and look forward to his thoughts. Most comments on here are of the bandwagon variety - ek do ne attack shuru kiya, & all the herd followed in true bhed bakri style to knock Rahul down. Good to read ur views :)
I quite disagree with their opinion on Tiger Shroff. I think he is perfectly marketing himself as indias next action hero. When it comes to Arnold Schwarzenegger, no one came into theatres for his films to look at the acting performances but came for the action spectacle! The numbers don't lie. Looking at his future projects including Rambo and the collaboration with Hrithik Roshan, i think he's going to do exceedingly well
Actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger & Sylvester stallone despite having a poor acting skill; they were surrounded by good directors from the starting of their career (must be luck uh!) unlike Tiger Shroff who is only surrounded by good Choreographer but not filmmakers.Hence, suchitra was saying "we need good action director more" not the kind of Rohit shetty.😇
why is 'Schwarzenegger' better? In which angle? Junior, Terminator or Batman Forever? Tiger has limitation in his acting, but he isn't the 'worst' actor either, in fact he can dance as well as pull of action better than most. Movies are in no way just about 'ACTING', it is performance art. Tiger is definitely a performance artist, who looks very decent.
Arnold Schwarzenegger was a star 20 years ago. Now the times have really changed. Also he was 6 times Mr Olympia and Mr Universe. So there was a reason people came to watch him. And also his movies were well made and by fine directors. Tiger Shroff is flexible and good at stunts. But he has very limited talent in acting. Thats a fact. In Baagi 2, he tried to do something he cant DO and failed miserably, which is acting. So if he is aiming for action star image, then its best that he should stick with mindless action movies. Baagi 2 was not a good action movie. IT wierdly tried connect action and drama and failed in almost both of them. So before determining the quality of movies based on the numbers it made, we can just ask ourselves that 'movies like this deserves our time and money...??'
Action movies without a logical plot and nonsensical screenplay with cardboard actors don't make good action movies. Tiger Shroff can dance alright but has no acting skills.
Tried&Refused Productions. *Yeah numbers don't lie anywhere else but in India it lie. In India, Numbers don't mean quality. Example Judwa 2, Rohit Shitty movies, bhai movies. Yeah tiger Shroff is marketing himself well but just because our audience has poor taste doesn't mean that these artists and directors should take them for granted. Mark my words after 10 years from now people gonna troll the action sequences in Baaghi 2. I'm not against action but the quality of these choreographers movies are Shit. And fir the fuck sake don't compare with Arnold. He worked in better projects and acted better...*
Thanks for bringing this segment back after a month But I will still not forgive you that there wasn't this segment after the release of Hate Story 4 and Dil Junglee. I was refreshing this channel on the whole Monday and Tuesday just to see Rahul tear hate story apart after giving it a zero star. I am lacking in number of friends so this is the closest I can get that I had a discussion about films with them. Don't take it away from me.
I loved Infinity War but I get where Rahul is coming from. Movies like Age of Ultron, Civil War, Thor The Dark World and Justice League really put me off the superhero genre. But despite my fatigue of the genre, Black Panther and Infinity War still managed to surprise me.
With all respect Anupama ji you have cutest smile in the world. If there could be any video in which you will laugh just laugh i'll watch it over and over again. Your laugh says more than words. I just love it.
Does anyone knw this fact that mr. Rahul desai who has a problem with most (all) of the movies, had given action jackon 3/5. I mean people roast anupama fr her befikre moment... So its fair enough that this 1 gets publicized.. 😁
I saw your comment and immediately searched for and read the review you mention. He was very clearly being sarcastic about it and it was clearly a so-bad-its-good film for him. A completely different scenario from anupama chopra-befikre. The problem with consumers such as you is your fixation with the star system. 5 fucking symbols cannot sum up a person's thoughts about a film. Have you read Desai's reviews? They are far more perceptive and intelligent than any other Indian film reviewer or film critic. But i guess he is too witty for you all.
Nilanjan Dey it was pretty obvious that he was nt saying that action jackson was nt a classic... Bt i dnt thnk it qualifies to be in the "so bad that its good" category... Not even me but many critics felt that it was more of a disturbing film.... On the lines of may b an r rajkumar
I've never commented on a RU-vid video before. Somehow I've found myself in a RU-vid rabbit hole, watching reviews of movies I have never seen/will never watch...but I guess it's kudos to your great commentary! Great going - keep up the good work!
Just fail to understand how grossly underrated and unappreciated is the movie 'Pari' and critics never even mention it in their podcasts forget praising it . Its the best supernatural horror movie in years. Pari is technically superior and has a riveting plot with great acting performances and competently directed Yet Critics and audiences have bashed the movie. It's appalling it has gone under the radar. It's a shame.
I saw it in the PVR and honestly I was bored to death... there is nothing good about it except that one scene where she scales the wall of the guy's apartment building and attacks a street dog... that movie gave me headache... being a horror genre fan it just didn't work for me at all... it was just plain boring... P.S.: this is just my opinion on it...
Rahul says Tiger is not talented. Well, that might not exactly be true. Tiger is talented. It's just probably his roles are too stereotyped and the one-man army just does not do justice to people who are looking forward for more from him. He should do more than just action
I saw Blackmail yesterday. Felt it was a refreshing movie. They attempted an unconventional comedy which was dark & situational in many ways. Irrfan was brilliant! Arunoday Singh was amazing as well. The supporting cast could have been better though. It's still one of the nice ones of 2018.
Again here also hollywood movies are shining much brighter than ours. Why we are not doing such awesome work... We are spending and making a load of money in movie making but it lacks that wow factor
you guys are like filters for us. agreed and thanks all the same. but this segment is somehow not very appealing in my opinion.. but I'm sure film buffs out there will appreciate this.. it's a confluence of three perspectives.. but I like it shorter segments more. It's a bit of generalising and gossip mode on films. sorry didn't work for me. but I wish u guys goodluck. btw all your innovative segments are just superb. keep rolling FC
16:02 WHAT KIND OF A MAN IS NOT GOING TO WATCH INFINITY WARS ? #Anupamachopra Are you questioning someone's masculinity based on the material they choose to watch or not watch ? Do you just put your stuff out into public without editing your speech of sexist slurs ? I am questioning this slur especially because this also has implications on 'What kind of a woman someone is if they DO OR DON'T Something that is deemed feminine'.
what kind of critics are you if don't get the plot of age of ultron ? it's your job to judge also appreciate it. It is helpful , but you don't know what is ultron .they have explained that and also i could have explained it but , you guys don't deserve that also as one of your " Critic" is scared of horror movies.
It's really fun to see you guys talk about films like this.Keep it up. I know,Taneja is covering the TV universe, but even then if possible;I would like to know your views about good and big TV series like Game of Thrones,Stranger things,The Breaking Bad,Westworld many more....
Please call Kartik Aryan. I could not watch SKTKS in Australia. I am a big Bollywood buff, but did not know who is he, really strange. Now want to see PKPs and SKTKS.
Finally Anupama mam actually understanding the pulse of the nation and not being so hard on bollywood movies. Critics needs to understand that Audience is not yet ready to pay for critically correct movie which doesn't have masala.
Hello guys. I have written a script and I want to know how it has come out so does anyone of you know any script reading services in Mumbai where they can review my script in exchanges some charges? If you have any idea please let me know. Thanks.
Sucharita ..You are so right.. We need better action directors.. Unfortunately, we don't .. I wish we had people like John Woo, Gareth Evans, Jackie Chan, Shaw Bros, Micheal Bay. etc ..who all have some kind of a signature of their own...
Almost went to see Baaghi, but it's not gonna tell me something that I don't already know - that Tiger can dance & needs a better director!! Rahul - that scene from CMBYN truly IS phenomenal! Only saw the film this week & it really got me! Looking forward to ur thoughts on Love, Simon. Sucharira, U haven't seen GET OUT??!! Get outa here! :D Arre it's NOT horror in that typical sense. Nor is Pari. Or A Quiet Place (am I the only 1 who thinks Emily Blunt looks like Kareena Kapoor???) And Any, yes, trailers shouldn't give anything away, but I've just stopped watching them over the last 3/4yrs as they spoil everything! And don't mind, but that's why I stopped watching ur reviews, too - u reaaaaaally disclose too much and it spoils it!!! Oh, glad to hear I'm not the only one who isn't fussed about superhero syaapa films, too!
How can you not get ultron? It is an Artificial Intelligence program built by Tony Stark to fight dangers that might exceed avengers skill set. Ultron takes birth out of Tony Stark's fears. He is a personification of his insecurities. Wanda manipulates his mind to see the worst case scenario-death of all avengers-and pushes him to give birth to Ultron. I love his introduction scene where ultron compares himself to Pinocchio and rejoice that he has no strings on him and he is not anyone's puppet.
Literally what the hell. I used to love this channel but all you guys lately do is sit and criticise films. You all are meant to review films. Especially the guy (whoever you are) you keep throwing value judgements without even stating reasons for your judgements. Firstly how much knowledge do you have of the art? just being lovers of films isn't enough to take a huge dump on a piece of art that has taken months to be made. You criticised Hitchki and said that after one point they stopped focusing on the fact that she had Touretts and they shifted the storyline. Exactly... cause they want to normalise it rather than keep making it stand out. Do you see that the individual stories of the kids show that the teacher could be anyone? Even someone without a disability? This shows that the film stops focusing on just one thing and normalise it. You guys seem like you'll are having some dinner table conversation and throwing heavy criticism. please be aware that people see this stuff get influenced by it and so do film makers. Anupama has been in this field for long so somewhere i do have that respect. She is also the wife of a big producer and has a secure place in the industry. I doubt you two must make statements so vaguely without backing up with examples. To the guy - do you ever say anything besides 'yeah i disliked it" PLEASE go watch zoya akhtar who is an amazing director talk about her opinions on critics in Koffee with Karan. Might give you guys a reality check. Besides this I love your channel Anupama, to the two of you - there is hope you'll can be kinder individuals don't lose that hope :)
Point to be noted. Basics of aesthetics, do not sit at a right angle to the camera. face the camera. Its annoying like this and looks like we are eavesdropping.
Love your videos and slowly getting addicted. Appreciate how the content is organic and never lacking in depth as far as the analysis is concerned. However, I noticed that none of you are into comics and in your discussion of the MCU movies, that plays a big part. The beauty of Marvel comics is that they hardly have a standalone edition and crossovers are a regular phenomenon. The movies of course, have been written differently including the characters and some of their back stories. Ultron works for me because compared to the comics it is much more complex and echoes the philosophy of Thanos albeit in a slightly different manner. MCU remains loyal to the multiverse and is doing a kickass job in bringing its varying elements together, earth and galactic. It's important to look into the nature of the source material before judging it vehemently, which I feel you have done along with the clueless New Yorker of a critic. I hope you find this perspective useful in gauging Marvel movies made in the future. Not forcing any of this on you though :) keep talking movies every week that comes.
I don't think Hichki needed anything that these three suggested. It's their point of view. It was simple and probably that's what the audiences loved. No wonder it made 150 crs in China. The performances were bang on. Also, like how Paa wasn't about progeria Hichki wasn't about Tourette. It was about her struggle to make a mark as a teacher.
@rahuldesai: wat do u lyk anyway in hindi cinema....u hate evrything....to every hindi movie u say didnt work for u....u guys just lyk english movies....so why to c and review hindi movie in the first place unless dey pay u really well which i think is the case..u say bad to every hindi movie in each of ur FC Hindi Movie review video.... PL STOP REVIEWING HINDI MOVIE COZ U GONNA LYK NONE COZ U DONT WANNA LYK ONE
Okay, A quiet place had good reviews but it’s not as great as it is projected to be. I had many questions while watching which took away excitement and I was not very much invested in the family. The end was inevitable. Lol, he watched it the 2nd time.
I cant watch horror movies because I'm scared AF and I hate superhero movies too :O (im not kidding) now I just need to like Befikre to have something in common with all three of them :p
i would like to request plz when some one asks question and your team member behind the camera reads out its difficult for us to hear, maybe they are far from the mic so i would suggest anyone of you kindly repeat the question so we can hear properly
There's a believe among Indians that every night lord Krishna comes in the Vrindavan forests and there he dances with his gopis. And if any normal person sees that dance, he loses his eyesight completely. Or another possibility is that, he cannot talk anymore and can even die instantly. All this is completely rubbish. I agree. But it would be so nice that the same happens with the audience when they watch a Tiger Shroff film directed by any choreographer, that too in a theatre. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I absolutely don't agree with hichki take... Its gave such a good message and as a student I thought it was so important to highlight the education propaganda of our country... You were talking about keeping it simple.. I think it was the best part,, thay didn't put any masala in it
Yes it is ..I was quite waiting for this show of yours.. I have a suggestion ..u can discuss old movies some classics..if there are not many new movies in that particular week.
October looks great nicely made but I think varun is weak point of this film not cause of his acting, his childish presence diminishing the integral gentle role of the film but it will be hit as he has stardom
You guys being film lovers and critics should not have language barrier to watch films and maybe you should watch some regional good films as well and talk about them.
I'm shocked how can a seasoned actor like Anil Kapoor sign Fanney Khan ?? It was senseless actually.... Other worse films of 2018 were Thugs of Hindostan, Aiyyari, Welcome to New York..
When Rahul speaks, the tempo of the chat comes crashing down. I believe they are discussing a topic which they love and when he speaks, he seemed to be terribly bored. Please give him some espresso!
I want to write a lot of things in line with your reply but you are definitely not taking my comment in good spirit so i rest my case. All the very best. 🙏
Stuti Mishra I'd actually love to know what you'd write, but it's sane to not waste that energy on this guy. To Rahul - Dude if you don't know how to take a feedback, don't be a part of such videos. Just because you (and Sucharita) are part of a well known channel, doesn't make you and your reviews/opinions spotless, justified and qualitative!
Like your channel but if you didnt got what Ultron was then you shouldnt be watching any more Avengers movies. It wasnt a great movie but not bad either.
Tiger is going to be the next action here and he doesn't need a script to support him lmao. He looks like he might low-key take Akshay Kumar's path. That being said I was terribly upset how Bollywood re-make ruined yet another good Telugu script
These people just gather up to discourage all actors n directors. It didnt work for them....Baaghi 2,Hichki...both moviea are blockbusters already...get your homework done.
