Every time I open the Genesis book I'm in complete awe. For me Salgado is the ultimate photography master. It´s just so beautiful and many times I can´t even begin to explain why.

They're so many to chose from, but one woman who still doesn't get enough recognition for her contributions to street work is Helen Levitt (which is just the title for the one book I'd suggest). I think her photos just genuinely captured the beat of city life, and those small daily occurrences that were overlooked.

omar parker I agree and I love her work. I think her and Vivian Maier are side by side. I have to have a book to look through with their work in my home.

@@EaglesnestRobotics I'd suggest hitting up Amazon, or Ebay for the above mentioned book. It has a green cover with her name on it. It's worth every penny and more. And Vivian Maier is another easy choice.

Inspiring others to make personal and meaningful work, in my opinion, is the most important thing we can preach and share with the world. Keep up the great work that you do!!

Great stuff Samuel, thanks! I don't have a favourite photo book, but what I think is also good idea is to drop into second hand bookshops every once in a while. You can find amazing stuff, last week for instance I found I book by Hiro Matsuoka, a photographer I didn't know, and now have his amazing book titled 'B's Vanity'

Not necessarily my favorite, but the "The Art of photography" series by time life is great, especially for people starting out because it shows lots of examples while also explaining all the basics. For example there are whole books on topics like speed, color, composition... They aren't printed anymore, but they aren't rare either. I got the whole collection >20 hardcover books at an antic / thrift store for 30€. I've seen them since on flea markets, etc. For equally cheap.

Adam I too love All the Photographers in The Void Tokyo collective. After watching Sam video wot Tatsuo Suzuki I was enamored by his work specifically his work ethic and style of shooting. I have take that approach to shooting here on the Houston Streets.

I have a few to recommend: MODERN COLOR by Fred Herzog, THE EYES OF THE CITY by Richard Sandler, ON COMPOSITION AND IMPROVISATION by Larry Fink, THE STREET PHOTOGRAPHER'S MANUAL by David Gibson, VIVIAN MAIER STREET PHOTOGRAPHER, THE AMERICANS by Robert Frank, DON'T JUST TELL THEM, SHOW THEM by Jesse Marlow, ALL ABOUT SAUL LEITER, ON STREET PHOTOGRAPHY and THE POETIC IMAGE by Alex and Rebecca Webb, AMERICA by Richard Bram, AMERICAN COLOR by Constantine Manos. If you are only going to buy one get the Aperture edition of the Larry Fink.

Nice video, I lately bought and can only highly recommend: Todd Hido - On Landscapes, Interiors, and the Nude (Aperture) Not the biggest fan of his Interior and nude shots, but his advices and opinions on photography in general are as interesting and good as his other work is to me. Def worth to be checked out.

Susan Sontag: On Photography. This book is definitely a must read for any photographer, amateur or pro. It isn't a zine however but an actual book! Cheers.

I really enjoy your channel and need to ask a question. You and other photographers state that you make prints of your work. I like this idea, to check exposure, etc., but am dubious about keeping all of the prints (after final edits) just for storage space alone. What do you do with yours?

Publications are real keepers, and timeless. In case you missed it, there’s a 1hr plus documentary on street photographer Garry Winogrand being streamed (until mid-May) on PBS TV as part of the American Masters series. The title is “All Things Are Photographable”. Google the key words and I’m sure you will find the link. Also the Ricoh GR3 firmware update is out - improves low light focusing performance quite a bit. Perhaps ripe for a vid.

You should check out "And Then There Was Silence" By Jan Grarup! Its an amazing (and brutal) book, documenting some recent wars! Also anything from Joseph Koudelka is great!

I only have a Street Photography book (Alex Webb - The suffering of the light) and it's incredible, but difficult to analyze and replicate. The next books to buy is Daido Tokyo and Anders Petersen - Valparaiso. If I could afford them I'd purchase some books of Ray K Metzker and Trent Parke's Dream/Life.

Check out Tish Murtha's Youth Unemployment: bluecoatpress.co.uk/product/youth-unemployment/ So much contemporary street photography is style over substance. Film Directing: Shot by Shot is also a pretty good book :-)
