Problem is people already have and I'm sure they don't plan to give that money back. Best hope is that they throw a few more units/generic characters/lore of hags into it before launch, but I sort of doubt that too. Or maybe next year they throw in a free race pack to try to regenerate some good faith/will?
As you said exactly, I'm only holding out hope that the generic hero and lord will come with the free update. Which would be awesome and a great good will from CA. But in retrospect why would they not include them in the DLC especially with this price? And given the Tzeentch free update blog they put out so far; which was bare bones...no new mechanics, no tech tree update, no mention of units or heroes or lords... the omens are not very encouraging.
6-8 units/ One LL, LH, GL, GH / unique mechanics per new faction & a light overhaul per race and I think I could justify the price. Best hope is that they throw a few more units/generic characters/lore of hags into it before launch.
I'm actually not opposed to race pack level content for existing factions, although I do see the arguments against it. However to justify it I would expect to see a generic lord, a generic hero, six to eight units (including variants) and where needed a comprehensive rework per faction. The rework is important, mechanics may not be as visible as units and characters but they're a huge part of race packs; I expect as much change between the three factions mechanically as there was for the Chorfs, Tomb Kings or Vampire Coast. That is the level of content CA themselves have already established we should expect from a £20 price point. If they can't deliver that in the 4 month time frame for DLCs then they either need to invest more resources into the DLC team (since they'd be making more money) or they cannot charge that price point. Simple as.
Also, I don't know for certain but I doubt this is a SEGA decision. We're seeing them consider putting the price of their games up to $70 in line with other industry figures, nothing in their attitude with their other properties suggests they're mandating 150% price increases in add on content (not to mention the price increases with previous DLCs that came before SEGA even considered raising prices). I think this likely lies at the feet of CA's corporate leadership.
it's too late to put a custodian team on this, its a funeral cortege by now. sarcasm aside, you usually establish a custodian team when you release a new franchise that you want to support for years, not now. They need to be there to fix bug asap from the start and maintain the code in a decent state with every new dlc unit/mechanic that is added. They haven't done that and now we see the reason why developer need a custodian team if you want a franchise spanning multiple years and dlcs. If they don't do it then you know the lifespan of the game will be a 4-5 years, after which the quality of the product will degrade.
Now that the DLC has released, we can see there was no "extra" surprise content. We got a high quality, a medium quality and a low quality lord. Not enough units and they didn't even spread the legendary heros around. $15 is what I would pay and be happy, $18 I would probably pay but I would be mad about it. At $25 I absolutely am not buying it and will wait until it gets below $15 to buy it. I will speak with my wallet. Yes I can afford $10 extra dollars but it's the principle of the matter. It's price to performance, it's about value.
Yeah, if this is all they plan to implement for tzaangors that would be wildly disappointing. Like the other monogods could just have one minotaur and bestigor variant but tzeentch IS the mo fone changer. Plus with the aos models that already exist, I mean easy slam dunk. Yes I know GW probably blocked using the aos models.
