I read Journey to the West and it never says, it's just...a thing that happened. Even Monkey doesn't know, he just shrugs it off and gets on with his day. "Just now getting to Journey to the West?" Yeah, like, the first quarter or so of that book is just "Monkey King wrecks stuff in funny ways" before the actual plot kicks in.
They didn't mention Sun Wukong's greatest weakness. You see, when the priest freed him from his mountain prison, Quanyin the Goddess of Mercy put a magic ring around Sun Wukong's head and made the priest memorize an incantation that would make the ring around his head squeeze it mercilessly subjecting him to serious pain until the priest stopped saying the incantation. But it makes sense that they didn't. In order for Hercules to actually use this, he would not only have to know about it but would also have to know the incantation. Many anime other than Dragonball are based on things Monkey has done. Naruto's Shadow Clone ability is based on Monkey's ability to tear out several hairs and blow on them to create a swarm of mini clones of himself that are just as strong as he is. Inuyasha's growing sword and Beads of Subjugation are based on Monkey's cudgel and the ring around his head. Not to mention their showboating and conceited attitudes are all based on Monkey as well.
Does he still have that at the end of Journey to the West? DB's policy is to take a character "at the height of their power" to avoid the Raditz-beats-Goku problem. Though yeah, the way there's no reasonable way for Herc to know about it makes it a non-issue.
@@rna151 I think Buddha did remove it from his head at the end when Monkey achieved Nirvana and learned that he wasn't this all-powerful being he thought he was.

I mean, Greek Gods are known to be sexual perverts that have a list for bloodshed; likely equivalent to Christian Views on Demons. Given that Wukong became a Buddhist Warrior, Hercules would lose, because no power is greater than that of the spiritually pure realms of Heaven.
Nah,if you wanna use him at his prime: his weakness to smoke.Turns out after being boiled in Trigram furnace,his eyesight is affected by the smoke,turning it red and not being able to see properly.He can see the true form of things,but smoke hurts his eyes.
Fun fact: the 72 transformations doesn’t mean he can only turn into 72 different creatures. He can turn into anything, but he has 72 lives, meaning Wukong has to be killed 72 times to be put down, and that’s without including the immortality.
@@donovanhadley2209 he could still die, but it so hard that there really is no way Heracles can kill him. Hydra poison can hurt Wukong, but killing him is a whole other matter.
@@donovanhadley2209 The Hydra itself could be something that kills Sun. Given it's poison strips away immortality & the Hydra has a endless amount. Herc having only arrows dipped in it,means he lacked the amount to get past all those clones & continuously fill Sun with the poison.

@@BJGvideos while my suggestion is not as impressive, LittleFox’s adaptation of Journey to the West is a fun series if you ever felt bored. Maybe not a perfect suggestion for anything related to Journey to the West, but it’s not as annoying as that Early 2000s cartoon that has way too much Mo’linguish than even Mojo Jojo. Also, Wukong’s voice in the LittleFox adaptation reminds me of Fry from Futurama.
Loved your reaction, it was so fun. Also to correct, Journey To The West is a folklore tale rather than a fiction. Yes they technically are the same thing but there have been stories of the entities within the story dating back hundreds of years before the book was published. Similar to Legend of Zelda where it’s a story of events told by the perspective of regular folks and the being treated as fabled legends. Anyway, one of the best animations in my opinion. I always preferred the sprite work over 3D as with sprites, your limit is the sprites themselves in the positions you can have them in. But you have far more freedom to use them in any scene with far less time to put them in verses 3D where you must create a model for nearly every scene or instance you want them to be in. The scroll tapestry being the battlefield makes sense since again they are fables, the way it pans out to see the celestial forms of both Wukong and Hercules showing that the ones on the scroll is just their mortal forms etc. All in all I truly think it’s one of the best in death battle history. Not my favourite (He-Man vs Lion-O is still my all time favourite death battle), but definitely top tier from writing, storyboarding, presentation and depictions of the characters. They tried killing Wukong immediately after he got the 72 Earthly Transformations. And then he Rules Lawyered death itself into making him Double Immortal ™️. Also, Herc is at least semi-accurate about Sun Wukong being a demon.
Hercules believing Wukong is a demon? Well, yes, but actually no. In fact, the real demon is Heracles himself, as he is not human, and his holiness is not pure in the slightest, given that Greek Gods are sexually impure deities with a ton of bloodshed. Wukong has the power to see through demon disguises and that Demons can not beat the powers of Heaven; heck, Wukong is the Victorious Fighting Buddha, that’s like Jesus Christ learning Kung Fu to kill demons.
This here is one of my favorite Death Battles to date, and definitely my favorite 2D fight. I’m a huge mythology nerd, and loved seeing DB dip it’s toe into something new, and the presentation of the fight itself was phenomenal!
YES! FUCK YES! This is my absolute favourite episode of Death Battle! It managed to overthrow Chuck Norris vs Segata Sanshiro as the one episode I revisit over and over and over again! The presentation of the fight, the use of abilities and the absolutely Godly ending makes it a blast through and through!
This is honestly one of my personal favorites in Death Battle history. ❤ I always wondered what the Monkey King was like, and this was a history lesson on the subject I greatly appreciated. :) Also, Happy New Year! 🎉
Well Journey to the west is similar to the divine comedy in the sense that while not part of the real religion, their cultural impact is soo big that some do consider them canon if that makes sense.
This one is a really interesting one like, I was not familiar with Sun but after learning that he has a butt-load of immortality, I came to the conclusion that Hercules was screwed like I know of the Hydra Poison with the arrows, but he had to try and hit Wukong who could just send his clones out to fight for him, there was literally nothing Herc could do to try and kill Sun without being killed himself. Next time with Boba Fett and Predator, so Fett decided that challenging Samus was a bad idea since he did lose to her twice in both the original fight and also the remastered episode, so he goes to try and fight someone who also likes to hunt especially the Xenomorphs, that is what the aliens are known as in the Aliens series. fun fact, but journey to the west is not fiction, more of a mix of folklore and mythology, as the many authors throughout the ages foretold of mythological events all about the buddha and such.
I remember someone answered the ton of feathers/bricks with: the feathers. It’s a ton of feathers plus the weight of guilt from whatever you did to all the birds that the feathers belonged to.

According to Egyptian myth, Anubis' job is, and I quote, "to usher lost souls to the afterlife", opposed to Hades, who rules over the dead. That's about one of the main connections between them; They both are deities of the underworld, though they play this role in different ways.
Sun's book is in the same vain as Percy Jackson. Is Percy Jackson mythology or a book that just heavily uses it? Did people build temple's to worship Sun like they did with Hercules?
A few things to know - remember all mythology is a story. Sun Wukong is mythology. - as for the gods, Hercules didn`t fight his olympian pantheon. he beat the god of death and kill a few god killers but he didn`t fight Olympus. for example, when he shot the sun with an arrow Appolo laughed it off and help him out. Athena herself helped him a lot. there were no antagonist feelings except for Hera. Sun Wukong fought all of heaven in a 1 vs all and was winning. they had to use special binds to hold him and when they tried to burn him and his immortality, they just ended up burning his remaining mortality and making him immortal, again. - also Sun Wukong wasn`t holding infinity, the battle skip a part to not make the result obvious. he was actually lifting two heaven mountains on his shoulders while running "with the speed of a meteor". I know this looks like the annoying "actually" meme but the context makes many want to read journey o the west.
Mythology is something people worshipped & built temples for their deity's. This was not done for Sun as he's a book character,a very very popular one with tons of mythology stuff in the book but so is Percy Jackson.
@@creaturetransylvania8943 not necessarily. Your definition comes short. The hydra is Greek mythology but doesn't have a temple. Neither does typhoon or his children. There a dozens of Gods without temples like Thanatos, Nyx, most of Hade children, most of Poseidon children, etc. As for Sun Wukong due to his birth and story, he would best be classified as a divine demon. This is due to his birth being closer to demon nature but his training and redemption being a Taoists journey to Buddha.
@@JayJayM57 Of course the Greek monster's don't have temple's for worship,they aren't gods. If someone tried to worship the monsters,they would at the very least be outcast from society at the time or put to death at the most. Thanatos does have a temple in Elysion,if a god didn't have a temple then they would have a statue or place or object to worship them. Sun was not worshiped as a deity,no one every prayed to him in any form. This would be the equivalent to worshipping or praying to Percy Jackson.

They just were part of a mythological story. 2nd Thanatos had a temple but no worship. Also, in Asia culture the difference between yokai and kami is, one is worship the other is not. By the way your comment implies Nyx and several other Gods were monsters. To answer your constant Percy Jackson attempt of an argument. Most mythology started as a story just like Percy Jackson.

Gods are specifically worshipped,the mains ones with temples,the lesser gods with at least a place or object to do the worship. A temple is a place for worship. You didn't even knew Thanatos had a temple,now you claim he wasn't worshipped. How did a imply Nyx & other gods are monsters? I clearly said if they didn't get a temple they were worshipped with another place or object. Nyx was worshipped using black furred animals. As I said at the top, mythology was made to explain the unexplainable. It was not a story made for just reading. I hope this clears up your misconception. Wukong fought all of heaven at once while Hercules only fought demigods solo wukong had more experience fighting gods this is my 3rd favorite death battle so I’m really happy you reacted to it my bets where on wukong too so yay
This fight was a blast. I like my man Hercules but due to Dragon Ball, Sarcastic Productions's Journey to the West videos and Lego's Monkie Kid: i adore Wukong!
It's fun that they did a DB with a mythology character,this opens the way for many more DB's. With the Hydra poison being Herc only way to beat Sun,it make me think of Sun facing the Hydra. With how it was is that with how many immortality Sun has Herc would not have enough arrows to really make a dent in taking away his immortality,Herc would have around 20 hydra arrows, definitely not enough to take Sun's hundreds of immortality away with his clones in the way. So Sun main reason for winning is Herc not having enough arrows to get rid of all Sun immortality & Sun having thousands of clones,so that is how the Hydra is able too defeat Sun,the Hydra has infinite poison & can have a infinite number of heads,the Hydra is immortal & Herc never actually killed it,just trapped it & in order to chop off the immortal head so he could trap it he needed a special sword gifted to him by the gods. This is how the fight would go Sun being Sun would get in close to see the Hydra,Sun would then be racked with agonizing pain due to the very breath & scent the Hydra has being that poisonous,as Sun is in agonizing pain that would kill any mortal being the Hydra strikes with multiple heads sinking it's teeth into his flesh filling him with it's poison,his immortality's being taken one after another,of course he would be frantic to escape & wildly lash out & probably bash apart one of the non immortal heads but then two more would take it's place. So Sun would be trapped by agonizing pain & the Hydra's many jaws & once after awhile all his immortality's is gone all that will remain is a bloody lump of poison.(kinda morbid for such a happy guy) The Hydra was born to kill God's,then all the Greek gods feared what they had made,a monster beyond their control.
During first few minutes dude had so many expectations and assumptions, not knowing that all oh them will be debunked literally at first minutes of introduction.
Jttw the same way fiction and/or mythology as Greek one you so used to call mythology. Just because we definitely know that jjtw was written by one specific person doesn't make it less mythology. Freaking Jttw is literally a journey to become Buddha. Freaking origin story of the Monkey is freaking battle of major religions of the time. Eastern and Greek my mythology is fiction of the same freaking magnitude, of the same topic. Just because Greek stuff less organized, less preserved, it doesn't make it less fiction, and more mythology/religion.
"mythology" are stories that have at one point been considered religion but overtime these religions become extinct, making them myth. That's how I see it at least LOTR wouldn't be mythology because while Middle-Earth has a mythology in universe, it was created in our real world to be fictional
