Hey, actual biologist here! The whole meme about “everything becomes a crab in the end” came from a misunderstanding of the term carcinisation. Carcinisation refers to the tendency of non-crab crustaceans to evolve a crab-like body plan. It only applies to crustaceans (and other chelicerates), not all forms of life. Also, evolution does not end up with the most “optimized” body plan. Bits are kept as long as they are not actively detrimental to survival. Evolution will simply be selecting for what fits into and survives the environment best.
To go with the theme of weird animated fish movies, you should look at a movie called "The Incredible Mr. Limpet" I used to watch when I was a kid. It's about a man who loves fish so much and he wishes to be one and then he gets pushed off a pier and somehow turned into a fish. He saves and falls in love with a actual fish and in the end he breaks up with his HUMAN wife to be with the fish. It's a fever dream
It was also a big influence for the Disney animators when they did “The Little Mermaid”. Mr. Limpet even makes a brief cameo in the “Under the Sea” sequence.
“Overweight” animated characters are usually weird like that. Hell, Homer Simpson is 6’0, and only weighs 239 pounds and yet his stomach is shaped like a beach ball.
This movie could well be a long lost Don Bluth film, the character designs, the stereotypical toddler with pigtails, even the disturbing villain with an equally harrowing demise, it really has the hallmarks of early Don Bluth films.
As a French, this movie is a way to recognize people with good movie taste, only a few know about this movie, I had the Vhs when I was young, I know the movie by heart ❤
I watched this movie so many times as a kid. Its such a strange, but fun, ride. I also love the defeat of the villain in this movie. The main character basically played on his pride to literally drown himself by becoming too human. The way he, or rather his corpse, just floats away in utter silence is *chilling*
I rewatch this movie from time to time, it’s so nostalgic. I’ve always really liked how mature it was at moments, as it wasn’t afraid to show blood or just drastic moments in general. It’s rare for family movies to treat its audience so maturely. Sometimes movies act like kids are the dumbest species on earth, and this movie said ARE THEY? WATCH THIS. 26:20 Chuck became o lot more chill in general. He was very “I gotta listen to my mama, I’m a good boy” kind of guy and then you can see him at the end, just having fun at the slide - uncaring. Also the music SLAPS
My older sister watched this movie a few years ago with her kids, and they all liked it. It looks like a pretty decent film that I might want to see. Good video, as always. 😊
To be honest, i thought Fly would have his arm broken or fractured instead of his leg, since the punch was more closer to his arms/fins instead of the Tailfin where his legs are.
I watched this one a lot when I was young! You say the stakes weren't high but I remember the fake-out at the end making me nervous every time. Plus the villain is scary! And the setting really has an eerie vibe that I remember though the details are foggy.
I used to watch this a lot as a kid and loved it, to be fair, I still love it. Just haven’t watched it in years. So much nostalgia coming back for this film :)
Man I remember watching this ONCE at my grandparents house as a wee little kid and I remember it vividly. The thing that stuck with me the most was the main villain death and the fake out death with kid with hat lol Even back then I was like "Jesus H. Christ that was horrifying"
I don't quite agree that the characters don't develop. The little sister starts by not wanting to let go of the seahorse, but ends up sending her overboard, of her own free will, without selfishness. Otherwise, I agree with what else you say. I am Danish, and was a child when this film came out, and hold it close to my heart. Try checking out Valhalla, The War of the Birds, and The Monkeys and the Secret Weapon. Danish cartoons are not for children, but I loved it.
this movie might seem mid but among Dutch audiences it used to be pretty big! That is because a Belgian band called K3 (who made songs for kids) made a dutch cover of the danish song that went with the movie. K3 used to be CRAZY popular in the early 2000's so when they released that song a lot of kids saw it!
All of the comments say, that how great the movie is and how much they liked it, but me and my sister hated this movie. It was so dark and traumatizing for us. Maybe traumatizing is a strong word for here, but you get the idea.
I’m currently writing a story about a girl accidentally becoming a shapeshifter, so you could probably piece together the pieces and figure out why I’m here
This movie gives me serious Freddy the fish vibes. For those of you that don't know what that is, I don't really know either. I just remember from my childhood there's an old PC ROM game I would play that was like a point and click adventure or something with a yellow fish and a green guppy...
I watched this move with some friends a while back because we were all bored and one of them was like "want an obscure movie no one knows about?" Yeah, it's definitely flawed and had lots of lost growth potential but... it was fun xD I think it's one of those movies that didn't have a point to prove, just here to have fun drawing fish making funny faces and kids getting pummeled in the face
It's so weird seeing this movie again, I used to watch it a ton when I was a kid and had the DVD disc but the name was "A fish tale" not "Help! I'm a fish" lol
wooo scandinavian repestation! i grew up with this movie haveing watched it so many times as a kid and then rewatched it as a adult, persnoly its not as good as i rememberd but hey i liked the movie "the quest for camalot" as a kid sooo yea
holy fucking shit i remember this film, i thought it was a fever dream - I didn't realise it existed, and I definitely never thought id see it/find it again :o great video as always!
It’s fair to assume Goliath groupers are aggressive due to size and how intimidating they look but really their not, all they do is eat and chili on the sand bed
Loved this movie when I first saw it in the UK, wasn't able to get it before we left for the US and when I ever searched for it I struggled hard, wasn't till the closing of a borders book store that I stumbled across it, found out in the US its called "A Fish Tale"
When I was younger I saw this movie on On Demand And I asked my mom if I could watch it and she said "no your to young to watch it" even she knew how dark it was
I know you've said this before countless times, but what time do you stream these so I can watch with you guys in real time as opposed to just once they're uploaded to youtube?
I watched this as a kid, and I actually liked it. My mind didn't keep it in memory despite watching it several times, and I think it was because of the villain's death.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO REIEW THIS MOVIE!! I'M SO HYPED!! Please do a review on an unknown movie called 'Galavants'! I loved that movie as a kid but watching back on it now, it's not terrible but it did go a little downhill over time.
Vampire squid are adorable, they are about a foot or less in lenght and is a deep sea dweller specialized in extremely low oxygen environment, and are mostly scavengers. It's also not actually a squid, but belongs in it's own order of cephalopods. Fascinating little guys. Mentioning them being terrfying and in groups makes me think of humboldt squid - which can be around 5ft long and hunt in groups with 1000+ individuals. When feeding or provoked, they can also be quite aggressive.
Can ANYONE, PLEASE, I have been looking for a long time to rewatch this movie. Does anyone know where I can find it. This movie has such a huge part in my memorie
Speaking of the Future Is Wild, you should do that next! Just the Docu series though. You don't have to review the animated series. But since that's what you're all about, then... whatever
Adding to Goliath Grouper: The reason they are such assholes to deal with is they steal your bait/fish then will find a place in the reef they can hunker down. Extend their gills and essentially "lock" themselves in place.
I think there were 2 Junji Ito anthology series, one more recently on NEtflix, the other was available (maybe still) on Crunchyroll. Gyo is the one with the shark on mechanical legs, I think it had a film adaptation, but might be getting a newer one. But I'm pretty sure Uzumaki is getting an anime adaptation proper, which I don't think it's actually had an animated one, but there was a live action one in 2000 and Gyo's animated "film" was in 2012
