Dang, he was very popular when I was a young man. I look at actors like him and think, "Damn, look how old these people look." Then it dawns on me that I am 71, and that ain't no spring chicken. Rory died in 1999. RIP.

He had a strong on screen chemistry with Marilyn Monroe in River of No Return (1954), so it's nice to see him recognize her unique talent.

As an 8 year old, I loved that movie in 1954 & actually went to Jasper, Canada, 1998 & went to the hotel where Marilyn Monroe & Robert Mitchum stayed, while making the film! As we left the hotel, a giant "twin rainbow" appeared! Gorgeous country!

Liked Rory in the Texan, and all his westerns. He had such a presence about him. He was also very handsome. Watched him throughout my life. One thing about it, we are both getting old.

@James Henderson - Actually he was just 61 at the time of that interview. He was born in 1922. Making those westerns was pretty rough work.

In the spring of '49 I won second place in an English equestrian riding event with the California Rangers at the Riverside Stables on Los Feliz and Riverside Drive. The prize was a two-week vacation at Rory Calhoun's Sespe Creek Ranch near Ojai, California. Rory and Lita appeared one afternoon and the other kids attending the ranch decided to "initiate" Rory by pushing him into the swimming pool. Rory was wearing a gold wristwatch and I was concerned that it would get ruined. So, I tried to pull it off of his left wrist. The result was getting lifted and thrown so hard into the pool by him that I got a bloody nose. Seeing the red stream on my face when I surfaced, had Rory reaching out to pull me onto the deck. That's my memory of Rory. He had a "half-brother" (Frank) who resided in Ojai and I had occasion to go to his "ranch" and ride a sorrel thoroughbred. It turned out that Frank also knew my estranged father who had worked in Hollywood back in the day. Small world.

Rory's first wife divorced him on grounds of his adultery. She named 79 co-respondents, including Betty Grable. Rory's response ? - "Heck, she didn't get half of them"

I ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ Rory Calhoun. He was in a series of movies in the 1950's and he was in a TV series, a western, in the early 60's. He was always top in my and my families opinion.
