Mr. Skinner, thank you for honoring our Dad with your wonderful documentary! It was very well done. He was a very diverse actor and although many remember him as a western actor, he actually had a long and varied career. He was a wonderful dad and loved his kids very much. We miss him! Again, thank you! Lorri
Thank you Lorri for your kind words. Your Dad gave me great pleasure watching his wonderful movies over the years. I only do videos of actors i like and your Dad (Roy Calhoun) was one of them. Thank you again Sweet Heart. Jerry
What lucky kids y’all were to have him as your dad! I bet he was a great grandpa as well. I still continue to watch his movies. He will live on forever that way.🥰
As a child, I always got excited when I saw the name Rory Calhoun on the movie billboard. You would know that it was going to be a good movie. Back then, in the small town where I grew up, movies were much cheaper, about $.50 in the mid-1950s. Even so, $.50 was much harder to come by.
Your Pop Rory Calhoun was a Sensational Actor. I ❤'ed him in Westerns. I am a Huge Western Movie Fan from Australia. Ur dad was good look'in, rugged, & smooth. Thx U 4 sharing his biography 👍👌
Growing up in the 50s and 60s, Rory was aways part of the TV and movies. It is nice to finally know a little bit about the fellow. Well done Jerry, thank you.
Rory Calhoun was a great actor....He was a natural....I am 73 and grew up watching westerns of the day, with my dad...I watched an old Zane Grey Theater, made in l956..His acting was so good and believable, that it brought tears to my eyes..
I first saw Rory Calhoun in his TV series and then made it a point to watch any movie he was. He had the most beautiful eyes! I had known nothing about his personal life. Thank you making this video, I enjoyed it very much.
When I was a teenager I fell in love with this man, I thought he was the best looking man I ever laid eyes on, outside of my dad of course in fact they looked very much alike except my dad had steely blue eyes with dark hair, he even leaned his head over to one side slightly like Mr. Rory. They don’t make them like my dad and Mr. Rory anymore. I enjoyed this very much, brought back many good memories. 🥰
Jerry thank you for the documentary. I had the opportunity to meet Rory when my father hired him for a NC promotion. I remember how down to earth he was and the impression he made on me. I was in my mid teens and have never forgotten that experience. I'm sure the folks in our small NC town have not forgotten the day Rory Calhoun came to town.
DrVonChilla, you said it all. Jerry Skinner has such a fantastic voice and style when he shares his documentaries with all of. Mr. Skinner is a 'gift' for everyone to enjoy!!
What a Beautiful story of a Real man! I had the pleasure to meet him at a Native American Art venue near Kansas City in his later years; he was an Awesome artist as well as one of my favorite Western actors! Thank you Sir for your story of this Man!
Mr. Skinner--Thank you for all the exceptional biographies you do. Always great to learn about stars we grew up watching. And you do them so well, with such class.
Thank you, Mr. Skinner. Rory was one of the underrated actors of Hollywood, and he started in a number of my favorite movies, ie with Susan Hayward and Marilyn Monroe. I always wait for your documentaries, you are the best.
I've loved westerns since I was a kid back in the 1950s. Like most fans of westerns, I love most of the westerns that the great Rory Calhoun played in. I have several of R.C.s westerns in my rather large western movie collection. Thank you Rory Calhoun for appearing and starring in so many great westerns through the years....... on the small AND big screen. R. I. P. RORY🐎 CALHOUN
Thanks, Jerry. I grew up watching this "dream machine" R Calhoun.. a fine actor. I knew nothing about his background. He sure made a great turn around.
I loved Rory Calhoun. He was such a wonderful actor. I purchased "The Texan" because it was one of my favorite series. Rory also portrayed a Union general in "Blue and Gray" miniseries.
Thanks so much, Jerry. Rory Calhoun is one of the few "golden age of Hollywood" stars that I knew little about. I learned a lot from this video. I always enjoy your work -- Diane.
Rory was really not given his due by the critics but he was loved and appreciated by countless fans 👍💯 No matter what innuendo was and still thrown around I only care about his career and thanks Mr Calhoun 🙌🙌
growing up in ireland in 1950s my brothers and I always loved the western movies the real ones before The spaghetti rubbish that came later and ruined the westerns movies our favourites were Randolph Scott🌟 Joel Mcrea🌟 Audie Murphy 🌟Alan Ladd 🌟 Gary Cooper 🌟 and the wonderful RoryCalhoun 🌟 his movies were Always different with great stories and the acting was top notch ' Rory was believable the good guy who would win in the end ' If you watch any of Rorys movies they still stand the test of time 🕰 we never got his fab TV series the Texan So it's so good to watch now on RU-vid and its really well made the stories are excellent ' tv is so bad in every Country in 2021 its a series like the Texan that people would enjoy more to view '
Too bad that Alan Ladd ended his life so early he was probably happy to have helped Rory Calhoun get his start in movies I'm sure they became good friends
I always loved his westerns. He always held his horse's reins funny, with both hands held really up high. Nobody else rode like that! Thanks for his background story!
Perhaps like real horse folk? It seems like most hold them like they are trying to pull back the horse's head. A horse trainer we knew trained the horses to neck rein - the only way to hold the reins would be high since the horse responded to pressure on the neck (and light pressure at that).
Thank you Jerry Skinner for another great bio on one of the Hollywood icons. You do a through job and you don't seem to ever leave out the good, the bad, or the ugly in the process. I'm a big fan.
So much I didn't know about this handsome man with the gray eyes. Thanks so much, Jerry for another interesting and informative video of the life and times of people we have come to know or hear about. I hope one day I will hear of yours. I like and respect you and your work.
Smoke was his nickname because he’d up and disappear like a cloud of smoke. I was a deckhand on his boat, Mi Sueno. Great guy, told me about himself as a way of making sure I did not pull off antics and try to make it through life the “Easy Way” a real nice guy...
I always thought he was one of the most handsome men in Hollywood. Thanks for sharing his life story with us. Your videos and the respect you give them is awesome!
Another wonderful work Mr. Skinner. I do remember Rory Calhoun growing up, he was so handsome (kind of looks like Robert Taylor). Glad he was not named Troy Donahue (that made me laugh). When it comes to RU-vid documentaries you are at the top of my list. Congratulations on your work sir.
This is a great tribute to Rory Calhoun. I saw many of his film performances over the period of years. I worked in a movie theatre in the 1960s and and saw some hie films. I have always enjoyed seeing his appearances in movies. I feel sad learning of how he passed away. RIP Rory ------------- I feel as though he lived an interesting life which made for another great Jerry Skinner documentary. Thank You ---- Laurence H.
Beautiful man and fabulous actor. Truly under recognized for the potentials he truly had. I feel he got "type casted" and the type of Westerns, his style, and handsome face held him back. He became too familiar in a particular role and Hollywood felt those were largely B Movies and it's hard to cross over and up - Truly sad, because he out acted every male actor that played Westerns at the time, even our beloved John Wayne. Rory really had talent. Was neat to see him as an older gentleman when hecapoeared in George Straight's "Pure Country" ....and I must say - he was still a great actor and *he was the midst handsome man I have ever seen in his Sr Years, at about 80 +/- he still had that presence. A true Star - even if Hollywood didn't get it.
Jerry did a great job on this but failed to mention that Rory also stared in a automobile racing movie called "thunder in carolina" wich was shot mainly around darlington speedway in darlington s.c. It was depicted in the year 1957. Great racing movie at the time. Wish I could see it again.
One day back in the early 1980's at the Cock and Bull bar in Hollywood I and my lady friend sat next to Rory who was there with his writer friend. Also, a couple writers from the Johnny Carson show were there who kept all of us in stitches all afternoon. Rory had a great time with us all..
I see a new video by Jerry Skinner, I hit thumbs up and start watching! Another great video, thanks for the effort you put into these presentations! We enjoy them immensely!
Thank you Sir Brings back memories, meeting Rory at the Cowboy bar in Jackson Hole Wyoming . He was very down to earth, easy to talk too , a genuine nice guy!!🤠
I remember getting Rory Calhoun’s autograph in my hometown of Columbia Tn. It had to be the early 60’s. He was signing 8 by 10 glossy black and white photographs that he had with him. This took place at a store called Gibson’s Discount Center. He was a very good cowboy actor. Just watched him the other day on an episode of Gunsmoke.
what a beautiful story. what a handsome man was Rory C. jerry, one day make a video of your own life, i'd love to know how you got started in this wonderful storytelling!
I always enjoyed him growing up in the 50s. After being surprised seeing him in Motel Hell I was glad to see him still alive and really enjoyed him in that role.
Once again you have out done yourself n the narration of Mr. Calhoun's story thank you so much Mr. Skinner! I truly enjoy your voice and the way you characterize all of Hollywood's grates keep up the good work.👍👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Jerry always enjoyed, looking at Rory his picture reminds me of another great from my childhood Dale Robertson,no idea why living in England it was so magical to live through the western era when TV was true magic.
Reading the other response's from your Legion of Fans Mr. Skinner....all I can add is You Are Family! Thank You ever so much for sharing these Video Treasures and Stories with Jerry Skinner Army!! Love This Channel.....Cheers From Ohio
Thanks Jerry for yet another fabulous documentary...I just love the way you present these stories. such kindness yet realism of these famous actors lives private and personal.
Mr Skinner, you have created the only Hollywood related RU-vid channel worth watching. Class all the way. By the way, you sound just like the wonderful actor and true cowboy, Richard Farnsworth. Thank you🌹
