I agree: nothing worse than a campsite with human feces and toilet paper strewn everywhere. From my experience in the army, the most important thing is teaching people to do personal hygiene in a way that is comfortable and convenient enough for squishy civilians. :) Make it easy enough (like an teardrop-integrated shower/latrine/entryway tent) and people will be more likely to do it right.
Adding this to the list of places I need to visit. My mother's side of the family is from Rochester NY so it would be wonderful to visit and meet some distant relatives on my mom's side of the family too. It is absolutely gorgeous there and I bet it is even better in person. Thanks also for being an advocate for keeping the recreation areas nice for the future generations too. Thanks again for sharing, Pat
Hi, first time watching. Have to say I enjoyed it and I learned some stuff too! We too clean up camp areas and leave it better than we found it! So, there are others like you out there. Thank you :) We have been to Letchworth many times. It is a beautiful state park!
Thank you for showing how to tie up the cords! I'm a complete newbie and I have a box with all my tangled cords. I've been meaning to figure it out but now I know it's easy. I never leave them at a site. I promise! I loved the montage!
Found your channel researching how to grease the bearings on my teardrop. I live in Rochester (and also went to school near here but at Geneseo) and camped at Letchworth on my 2nd trip in my teardrop a few years ago. Very much a newbie then (forgot about the stabilizers on my trailer and was afraid to turn over at night for fear it was going to topple off the block under the tongue). Great park, especially during fall foliage season when I was there.
Thank you. Went to school in Rochester. Letchworth: One of my favorite places of all time. Somewhat of a national secret IMO. Have not been back in 30+ years. And although I live in Colorado now and have a great “backyard’ to camp in, I hope to get our teardrop (and us) back there one of these years. The miss-use issue is of grave concern out west as well. I hope we can come up with ideas soon. Safe travels.
I went to Brockport, we were neighbors. They just put a new train bridge over the Genesee, you'll have to come back to see it. Thanks for watching, safe travels to you as well! SUBSCRIBE: ru-vid.com
Nice work.. I'm just starting out on my camping adventures and I appreciate your videos. They've been a great help in preparing for my first outing in my teardrop. I'm on the West Coast and we're having some problems with wildfires. Thanks for talking about responsible campsite etiquette!
The fires are heart breaking. If you see the haze in the driving montage in the beginning, that's smoke blowing our way from the wild fires in Canada... 😞
What a beautiful place! Definitely on the list now. Thanks for the recommendation Brian! Also thanks for raising awareness regarding campsite misuse. Even worse than cordage has been the garbage left along the NYS hiking trails. Maybe more prominently placed signs with $ amount fines posted at the trail heads along side a garbage can. Maybe the collected fine $'s could help finance the garbage cans
We have the same folding toilet but need to get a bigger privacy tent. The one you have looks perfect! Also, great tip to wrap up cordage. We'll definitely be using that. Keep the great content coming buddy!
It makes such a difference, the xlarge, sturdy privacy tent is the way to go, I’d never go back! I stick bags and chairs in there when the storms are coming too. Thanks for watching guys, love your channel… colab some day??
Man, I wish I had an answer to your question... It's a problem access the country. I end up picking up to much trash from other people. Looks like a pretty sweet camp site you have there!!
Back 40 (here at home...lol) only so far, but is a great power source, looking for a `fridge next. Headed out for some boon docking in a few weeks... want to make sure all is functioning b4 heading out. I`ll send pics & updates from next trip.
Beautiful park. I think I got two ticks just watching it...just kidding. I've been thinking of anti-theft locks and your new tongue jack would make a camper attached to the vehicle pretty hard. When parked I use a Master Lock that uses a ball in the receiver. My local Northern Tools store uses the same lock on the trailers that are left outside the store and they hold up to sledge hammers. What do you recommend for anti-theft?
That’s a great point, I think it would be a major theft deterrent with the tongue jack removed. I should get around to doing an anti theft video. My policy is to keep the honest people honest. I know how easy it is to defeat most of these systems, I try to make sure they’re really committed to stealing it_And when they are, they can have it…lol We gotta reach a good mid-point between making it challenging to steal and not annoying ourselves too much. I single boot on one of the wheels seems to be my go to, coupler protection if I’m going to leave it unattended for a while.
Brian , so I haven't used the water pump at all..nothing happens when the switch is flipped. Does water have to be added into the tank to activate it? Stupid question probably, but I have no idea how it works.
The pump wont run when its at pressure, not a stupid question at all, it can be tricky. So you have to fill w/ water, turn switch on, and spray the nozzle to hear the pump come on. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Few gallons should be enough for the pump to pick it up. Even without water in the reservoir, if you turn the switch and pull the spray nozzle you will hear the pump turn on. Spray nozzle must be attached.
I dont think the trash that ruins camp sites are the same people watching videos on camping. This rush of trashy people came when covid hit, and hopefully they leave and never come back.
It is honestly so sad that people have to make it worse for others regarding the camping sites and beautiful places. I honestly sometimes wonder why the you-tubers give the locations of these beautiful places and then you will hear stories of how the place have gone down because of the trash and feces. Maybe stop sharing the places and we all will have to do our own research on finding good camping sites so that the future generations can enjoy them. Sometimes some people don't have consideration for others and it seems like the people who are responsible and are cleaning up and leaving it nice for someone else are the one's who get penalized if they make restrictions on using the parks but the one's who made the trash simply don't care and it doesn't affect them but one day it will. I always like to say the LORD sees everything. I will also say there is a huge homeless epidemic going on in the country because of the inflation and they are using these beautiful places to sleep and use the bathroom and some don't care to clean up after themselves. Not everyone wants to learn and some people purposely go out to destroy but some will listen and be better campers so that their kids will have a place to go.Thank you for sharing and the tips.
I agree, tough situation though. You want people to get outdoors more and many who do becomes stewards of natural places. On the other hand, when you show people specific places, they get over used and misused.
