Hi Brian and happy birthday! Your teardrop is great to get into places that other campers cannot, plus a car can pull it. We are able to " bushwack" pretty well with our 15FK. Our 2022 model is raised and has off road tires. That said we are in our 70s and prefer to be a tad more comfortable. A teardrop for every occasion! We just could not beat the price for what we wanted to do. No frills, but we added our own bells and whistles. Very pleased and I am happy to see you enjoying your teardrop in all kinds of 💦💦 weather! ~ Diane

Happy birthday Brian. I've been in situations like this before, raining for around 14 hours straight, some hard rain and some steady. I'm with you, I like these weather surprises as long as you can stay safe, warm and dry, I'm in for the adventure. In my weather experiences I've not been so close to a river as you did. I'm usually way up hill. I camp in a Geo Pro 12SRK (kinda teardrop like) with an awning and I like sitting outside while it rains. Something about the fresh smell of rain that's just pleasant. The running of the furnace and propping the top vent open is alway smart. I did pick up on your tip to pre-make hot meals that can be put in a wide mouth thermos, I'll do that next time. Thanks for sharing the video. Take care.

Ah Brian, don't you know that it's a law of nature that when there's a big pup sharing a small space with you that your bed is their bed and often times you become the bed? I'm surprised your crocks didn't float away. Does fender = shoe-shelf? I just got back from a few days in the Eastern Sierras. It was hitting the high teens and low 20's evening to morning and we had a fire ban and like an idiot I misjudged the weather and left the really warm clothes behind. Probably not too bad for you but for us Southwestern dwellers where almost every day is >90 that's a bit chilly. Point being, I appreciated having my little wagon to hunker down in, me, wife and not so big dog. I'm borrowing your thermos idea. No more flipping a coin for who's going out to make coffee when it's 17! I have the FB and my wife likes to hunker down in there way more than me and now you got me wondering if I can emulate that futon-like setup for her. Looking at your overhead cabinet in this video I may have a small but useful tip for you. I also use soft baskets in ours and to keep them in place I just strung up some stretchy paracord across the front, half way up. I used wood screws and washers installed from behind the cabinet face for anchor points. It's inexpensive, easy to do, easy to replace, looks clean I think and even over rough fire roads nothing falls out.
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife 2 года назад
It's like gravity! She's too much! You should have no problem flipping the bed in the FB, it takes an extra minute to store the mattress topper in your car if you're using one. Pillows will sub for the back rest. I had the same idea for the soft baskets but they never fall down! Now that I said this, I'm probably doomed. I was waiting to see if they tossed on the rough roads but so far they hold fast... I will definitely go the same way as you if they start falling. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Glad the water receded! Good call on pulling up the stabilizers and hitching up. I tow with a car, so I probably would have moved (since a car has lower clearance and less traction/power). BTW I also camp with a bed-hogging dog, lol. Having an outdoor-rated camp pad for her has helped with that, and might help Ripple too. The fuzzy waterproof blanket looks great, and I bet if you put that on a pad she would … at least consider staying on it, lol. Happy camping & thanks for another informative video! Welcome and thank you! I'm super excited to see all of the new people coming our way from the Playing With Sticks video. I am currently traveling cross-country with the teardrop and internet access is limited. I will find a place to stop and help people find some great prices on the Bushwhacker. The price literally changes by the day, but the lowest price when I checked last week was $10,500. Generally speaking, the best prices have always been on the east coast, so check out some places in Florida. The northeast seems to be where people still find new trailers below 11k. When I get back in civilization I will have better information. Thanks again for subscribing and welcome!

Hey Brian! On my teardrop I sleep on a matrice not on a thick futon. When we awake up we see moisture underneath the cushion probably due to condensation. I was thinking of putting a layer of reflex. Would it help? Would I put the reflexive facing up or down?
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife 2 года назад
Make sure you’re getting better ventilation, that’s the big one. I don’t think the reflectix would help that much, my guess is it’s forming on the walls and running down. They do make a product that goes under bed for very humid environments. I think hypur-flo is one brand.

I realize that this is an odd video to ask this, but.....Have you ever removed the ceiling panel for repairs/mods? I have short to the outside LED bars that triggers when I use the vent fan. (try explaining that to the manufacturer) I'm sure I can tackle fixing the short and/or bad connection, but removing that ceiling sheeting without destroying my camper seems daunting.

@DIYOutdoorLife 2 года назад
Sorry, I haven’t had it off. I bet it’s not that difficult. It might be a challenge to preserve what you take down, but it would be easy to replace it or even upgrade it to some flexible Baltic. That would look great.

What has been your experience cooking in your Bushwhacker in the pouring rain? I have a 2021 Free solo and noticed if the rear clam shell hatch is up and it's raining cats and dogs, water can pour in both sides while cooking. Because it has no extended down spouts on either side, water can easily run off the back side of your camper and into your kitchen. I live in Southern California, and don't experience much weather in these parts, but I do like to head up to the high Sierra where at 9 or 10,000 feet, a heavy downpour can happen at anytime. Have you made any modifications to your Bushwhacker to help solve the potential disaster while cooking in the rain? Thanks!
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife 2 года назад
I get into that in this video and others, the hurricane hinge design is frustrating. Depending on the conditions we’re in, I use a canopy over the galley. That works well. A lot of times I also set up a small backpacker kitchen if it’s raining a lot. In this really bad storm, I cooked my food in advanced and put it in thermoses to eat inside the Bushwhacker😜 I have spoken with some who have extended the hurricane hinge. Some went all out and replaced, while others used plastic drip edge and even gorilla tape. I really wish BC would fix this design!

Bill Ulrich- That is why we decided to buy a 2022 Bushwacker 15FK. So far we really love it! It is light enough to pull with our older Tacoma. We pack the truck cab and put waterproof tubs in the truck bed. We keep the bed down, but bought a 10x10 canopy and and a 10x10 EZ UP tent for a screen house or guests. It is so nice to be able to cook inside and have that tiny wet bath. ~ Diane
@billurich7859
@billurich7859 2 года назад
@@dianehall5345 I’m glad that you’re enjoying your 15FK. I did have a chance to look at that model and it was nice, there’s nothing like having standing headroom, a kitchen and a wet bath in your small trailer. One of my prerequisites was to have it fit in my garage, the 15FK wouldn’t do it for me. I’ve had my Free Solo OG for a year now, and it love it, the outdoor kitchen so far hasn’t been a problem with rain coming it. I live in San Diego so we don’t see much rain and I keep the Free Solo in the garage, so it hasn’t gotten very wet, except for the few times I’ve washed it after a camping trip. I head up to Kennedy Meadows in the Sierra mountains next week, there’s always a chance that an afternoon shower could happen up there, I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that the heavy stuff won’t happen while preparing my meals. Good luck with your 15FK Diane!

Have you noticed any water intrusion or leak in the cabin? Is the underside waterproof?
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife Год назад
No water intrusion in galley, it does not leak when closed. You really can’t use it in the rain though, water does get in. I’ve driven mine across the country a couple times, dozens of nasty storms, no issues. Some of the newer models have a gap on the front that people close up and protect, older ones were a little better in that regard.
