I am rebuilding a 1940 B and had to replace the bearing and bushing in mine. Bushing from Deere was 53 dollars and they couldn't find me a bearing but I got lucky when I found one at Sharps parts (last one they had) for 54 dollars. Mine was very pitted so I replaced it. Had to replace all the T bolts but I machined those saving another 100 dollars but I figure if it lasted the first 80 years this will last another 80 years. I won't be around to worry about it then anyway...

Bill I think you should replace the broken ear as it looks like a centrifugal clutch and puts more pressure on the clutch plate the faster it turns more centrifugal force equals more clutch power that could have been the problem to begin with regards from the UK

This clutch is not centrifugal, there isn't enough rpm variation from low to fast idle to make a difference on these. But i do recommend replacing the broken part as it will cause uneven clutch pressure, especially if he ever desires to do some pulling with it, and the clutch will need to be fairly tight to hold the torque.

@@keltonwright7 part of the pressure may come from the weights but you seem to know it all even at lower speeds don't underestimate the power of centrifugal force

@@alanmcclusky Well explain to me how this clutch works at all then without the tractor running? It's a mechanical clutch, the force applied to the clutch lever goes threw the rod to the clutch fork. Which then moves the dogs and toggles to pull the T bolts to engage the clutch. If it was a centrifugal clutch there wouldn't be no need for adjusting bolts.

Hey Bill. Will you be bringing some of the tools from the work shop down in the cemetery up to your new shop near the house?? Great to see new projects here at the new shop. Take care sir.

Bill Dissasemble the shaft and get a bushing made to take up the wear not that expensive...

So a little trick that I've done for putting in the baring if I don't have a socket big enough is to put them in the freezer for a bit to shrink them and they just fit right in. Just keep it in mind for the next time

Nicely squidged bearing bill :-D I suppose if you only had the worn C selector part it would be possible to fill the worn parts by brazing , then grinding/filing it flat. Does anyone do brazing these days?

IMHO, doing the work of tearing that assembly down and not replacing a known broken $30 part is just silly.
