Glad you're being careful on your roof ! The lift is the way to go, save your back so you can work on the bus and the SEARS bike project. Great video, that engine is the best :)
Hate to say this, but I'm 67, and this summer I built a 10' x 20' addition to my house in SC. It was July and about 95* everyday, couldn't wait to get inside.
We used to have bikes just like that here in the late 70's /early 80's in UK,they were called the Raleigh Chopper, there was a smaller version called The Tomahawk also. Thanks for the vid. ATB.
Mustie1, Nice elevator, I would play with that all day! One has to love an engine that starts on the first pull, she sounds good. Put the motor on the old school sears, a little more time accurate.
SEARS all the way. I think that is your coolest little motor yet. The streamliner Has the style. That motor would look like it was made for the sears bike. It is like they are made for each other.
That little motor must have a massive governor assembly. You can tell by the way it takes so long to wind down. AND up too, for that matter. The big cast-iron pulley doesn't help matters either. Definitely needs an expansion chamber. Sounds good though. A tear-off on that roof would have been nice. As long as it stops mother nature from coming in, it's all good.
That little ah47 2stroke motor is cool. At 6 minutes he revs it, You can tell that it is still cold, (the way 2 stroke motors bog out when cold) Please let it idle & warm up before revving it... I AM HOPEFUL THAT LITTLE MOTOR WILL WORK OUT GREAT ONTO THAT BIKE! SWEET COMBO!!!
I hope you put the engine onto the bike with the Banana seat or, the Ross! SO, BANANA SEAT OR, THE TRIKE! I really like that ah47! Gota love a 2 stroke,-I do...
That little riser seems like everything is easy. Our house is only 1 story so roofing isn't too hard. Wow, that little engine started really good. I would stink if you had to keep pulling it as you would have to keep winding it!
great engine! your story about carrying those shingles up the ladder reminds me of my fish pond.. every time I think about stacking that 27 ton of rock.. makes me really glad I did that 15 years ago! I sure wouldnt want to do it now!
SEARS! That ross is just to cool . It looks like a the Raleigh my Pop brought home from England when i was a kid but mine was red and had ram horn handle bars it was the coolest bike !
Wow! . . . If that engine had turned up here in the UK, it would have almost certainly been branded as "Aspera" and likely made in Italy! They were used on "Flymo" hover mowers from about 1964 onwards. I've never seen one with the shaft in the horizontal plane before, so that's something new to me. If I recall, Aspera were part of Tecumseh, or there was at least a strong Tecumseh connection, one way or another. On the Flymo, these engines were somewhat underpowered and suffered badly from overheating - as my dad would have put it "They were flogged to death" and failed too readily. I guess there must have been a cure, because Flymo was still in production into the mid 1980s at least. I think they were eventually taken over by either "Allen" or, "Qualcast" and kitted out with a larger four-stroke engine and a bigger lift fan. Later Flymo models were mains electric, and later, battery powered, but that little two stroke engine started it all, and my word did they suffer at the hands of the over zealous operator. 💥
I like the idea of the Ross it is like a British Raleigh Chopper from the 70s but, as you say, it would be a pity to cut it about. The engine sounds great.
Sears Space Cadet please! What a nice sound... first pull and everything! I have to say that ought to make whichever you put it on scoot it's so old but it sound like it's got some stones to it. Fastest bike project yet!
The Ross would have a certain Kool factor but the sears would be more practical and the larger wheels would ride better. More of a novelty any way you go. To bad you didn't have it finished to put in the show this weekend. With your inginuity I'm sure you will come up with something. That old two stroke mini bike I had in the 60;s use to run best just before it ran out of gas. It would lean out and fly. Thanks for the memorie's.
AS YOU SEAD BEFORE IT'S YOUR BIKE AND MOTOR DO AS YOU WANT WITH IT AND AS LIKE ALWAYS IT WILL TURN OUT JUST FINE MY FRIEND I'M GOING TO BE 66 IN 8 DAYS AND THIS IS JUNE THE 17,2022 WE MADE SOME CRAZY THINGS TO RIDE WHEN WE WERE KIDS AND GOT THE SCARES TO PROVE IT WELL MY FRIEND YOU AND YOURS TAKE CARE AND STAY SAFE AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND WEEKEND NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT WHAT YOU DO YOU DO A OUT STANDING JOB IN WHAT YOU DO AND I SAY KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK I DON'T WHY SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO BE SO HATEFUL I WOULD LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING'S TO THEM PEOPLE BUT I'M KEEPING IT CLEANE AND RESPECTFUL WELL ON THAT NOTE I'LL BID YOU SO LONG AND I WILL SEE YOU ON THE NEXT VIDEO MY FRIEND TTYL
No ice and water shield? It is required by code here and a building permit is required for a re-roof too. I with you about the carrying shingles. Been there and done that...too old now.
That sounds like a happy two stroke :-), you would need some kind of clutch to use it though. Is the carb a bit off, it drags when you try to fast throttle it, could also be the plug heat rating or too much oil perhaps?? Love that lift, hell thats a nice way to get on the roof, please clip your belt to a short line around the chimney, dont want you to get injured mate :-( I Would say Sears, it just looks the part :-)
I'm with the "bike people" put it on the Sears! Love the lift!! Where did you get that? Back it day I used to carry bundles of shingles up a ladder also (Uncle Vintie will vouch for that), but those days are long gone, so I'd definitely be intrested in a lift! Btw, did I see an old VW pickup in your yard? Luv those!
Sorry to bother you on a old video, but I’m fascinated on where you get these engines! Are they all from yard sales or the trash? Looking for an engine for a bike myself. Thanks, Andrew.
i know its a new england thing so if you ever want to know the best way or type of shingle the GAF shingle factory will give you a tour and a class that's an hour long and you will be certified after the class for shingle rubber torch down hot tar, everything and the plant is in springfield mass
Could you tell me more about that lift please? I think you said you borrowed it from a friend but I sure could use one for work on the outside of my chimney! Thank you!
