Great talking point here Ivan! Not going to lie, with the popularity of the Surron in California (especially when it first came out) it gave kids the ability to purchase 45+ mph bikes and run them through the streets without any type of license. Over the past years, more and more California counties have been seizing Surrons + Talarias as the number of ebike accidents by minors has become more apparent resulting in e-bike laws and regulations over there. NJ will be an interesting one as requiring insurance and registration will hurt A LOT of small business not only in the food delivery space but also bike shops that sell and inventory PEVs which is why there will be definite push back on this. The one in Florida was honestly a freak accident ( the woman that died was a key figure in that community) which is why the ban in that town was so sudden. RIP to her family but I don't agree banning something just because of something like that. It doesn't solve anything. It's like if someone was killed by lawnmower, are we banning lawnmowers as well? Where do we draw the line for bans and money-hungry get rich schemes by States? The public (news outlets mainly) is too lazy to educate or even have a conversation with community members to come up with a solution but would rather throw the "ebike" name in for more clicks. All in all, cities will enforce shit like this to draw money from commuters any way they can since they look at us like low-hanging fruit.

while fire and safety concerns are legit, you gotta expect there's a lot of politics and lobbying involve against e-scooters and e-bikes. More people using PEVs = cuts into the margin of automakers, public transportation and subway system.

Hope you're back to 100% now! While I'm completely against regulations, with these scooters getting so fast and powerful, I'm personally not against requiring a MC license to operate these things above say 25 mph. Sadly we all know lots of future regulations will be coming for these things in the future, too many yahoos being completely irresponsible on them and it will kill it for everyone... It will be tragic too since these things make so much sense and solve so many problems! BTW, I laid up the PEV's for the winter, but took the board out a few times last week during the warm-up, it felt so good to get out on it again!

Everything you said about bearcats making villains out of PEVs as distraction from their short comings in other areas is true. So is the magnification of Pevs problems versus all other vehicles, especially cars and trucks. But, what PEVs riders are blind to, is their sense of entitlement to ride vehicles capable of speeds of many gas powered scooters, anywhere they wish to ride, and in any manner they wish to ride, without proof of competency, knowledge of traffic laws, or any means to identify their vehicles when they are in accidents or breaking the traffic laws. If the PEVs industry had kept PEVs as Pevs, and not greedily chased the lust for power and speed by enthusiast, Pevs would be fulfilling their purpose everywhere, without very much push back. On a "true" Pev, no one would have to wear anything more than bike/skateboard helmet. The fact that many Pevs are unlicensed MCs is clearly shown by the riders wearing MC protective gear. Some one has to get a MC license, register and insure a gas powered scooter with a top speed of 40 mph, while some one riding a so called Pev can be on a vehicle that goes 40 to 70+ mph, with no requirements other than to have the money to buy it. How long did people think this was going to fly?

Some states have already had an age limit..and some states needed a drivers license (only 2 states that I can think of)..none of this is new and no one cares anyway. It’s the same thing with faa registrations for the drones..forgotten about in 2 years

I can't wait to dig into all of your comments here. I was just saying to a friend that the city is sending us mixed messages on ebikes. On the one hand, they're making task forces to shut down businesses and cracking down on batteries in buildings... but on the other hand, they're also building out more greenways and creating public charging spaces. It's a confusing balancing act that's going on right now.

I'm so jealous of all your city's dedicated bicycle paths. In Denver, we have to pick and choose our route and meander between streets and paths and sidewalks and it's quite difficult to navigate.

thanks for bringing up this discussion! like with any relatively new space, there is naturally going to be some push back. the few bad apples like with any community is going to ruin it for the rest of us; whether it's buying cheap e-bikes with no name batteries, robbing people using unregistered mopeds, etc. there's no way for them to distinguish the good ones from the bad ones so this is just what we're going to have to deal with until things get straightened out. it is what it is. 🤷‍♂ we just have to be as understanding as possible until pev's become the new normal.

I’ll say, be careful what you wish for & be proactive WRT the policies that may or may not change as a result. As soon as the city finds a way to regulate & tax e-bike commerce, they will. Don’t make yourself an easy target for the ramifications.

Battery and ebike riding safety is the new norm for lawmakers. There will probably come a day all eike owners will need a license and registration to operate their bikes. Don't punish all ebike owners who obey the rules and regulations of ebike safety. Too many irresponsible owners are not following the rules to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the community they live in. Revenue will decrease from ebike and scooter companies. This will take fun out of buying an electric bike or scooter. Enjoy it while it lasts, folks.

What a timely video lol. These are sad times. Just today, one of the government agencies here in the Philippines just released their initial plan to ban every electric vehicle (besides cars) from the major roads which would pretty much render PEVs useless in the Metro. Effective on April. Reason being there are a lot of delinquent "e-trike" users who lack road discipline and accidents happen pretty much every single day. It has been chaotic over the year as we already have a lot of issues between cars and motorcycles. Unfortunate that the authorities don't seem to be working with the community as well when said people used to promote the use of PEVs. All of us have been clueless as to their plans. Some are panic-selling their electric bikes even. Fires related to lithium batteries are rare over here and have not been a concern so far despite seeing a lot of battery builders who build out of scrapped batteries. Guess we'll just hope for the best. Might just have my Fiido Q1S as a display when I do ship it to NJ if things don't go as planned.

But dont over do it and relapse! yeah i think there will be more regulation but hopefully not to crazy, like i think that NJ wants to require insurance but you can barely find insurance for ebikes let alone scooters. question- having trouble deciding on a scooter, the burn e is nice but as youve said in the past its BIG and heavy! That leaves the klima max and blast max. I like the idea of the slightly larger blast deck so you can adjust stance but how is the ride compared to the klima? i live in ATL (previously queens) and the roads are garbage but half my commute will be on a biking/jogging path. also some video ideas. 1. klima range test 2. how many extra miles does kick start on or full (highest level) regen braking add in milage to the range.

I have been riding electric scooters for years now and in my opinion the general population doesn’t like the PEV (personal electric vehicle) community. Cyclists do not like us bike lanes and bike trails. Automobile drivers do not like us especially in a city. Lastly pedestrians, walker, runners, joggers do not like us. I am grateful that I have been able to ride unregulated for years. It’s not like we didn’t see this coming. I used to tell people you don’t like me riding my scooter don’t worry soon you’ll be able to vote against it. And they will. For years waiting in traffic has been for that other guy and I really don’t want to go back being that guy. Anyway great video. Great perspective.

Most people at my Amazon warehouse.,. 3,500 employees give ot take, have never seen or have any idea what e bikes are all about.. no PEV people here where i am south of Detroit. So bicycles, cars and motorcycles have been around for well over 100 years. Safety rules and regulations are implemented and in place solidly. Billion's of dollars in making up safe motoring for everyone.. E vihicles are all new to most people.. These are times of trial and error. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Roll with it!

I like the idea of having different speed limits with the highest being regulated, DMV and insurance with the current motor-cycle? Lets say (Class 4) 27-55mph needs all the “Road-Usage” stuff as a EV motorcycle; except if a PEV is in “Class 3” 17.5-27mph or “bike & trail”; then we should overlap max:Min with “Class 2” with a 20 Max; 12 for “Class 1” and a “Class P” for pedestrian mode whos max & min should be Binary zero or 3 (stability). 50 points if you give me a “dog run/walk/stop” modes. 😂

Hey Ivan. Glad to hear you're feeling bettet. Really take care of your health. The new rules on PEVs is a bummer. Kinda saw it coming with all the accidents and fires happening over the years. Doesn't help that there was a recent PEV fire in the Bronx. First one of the year 😢 I'm down for getting some form of licence since I love escooters. Hoping it doesn't come to that, but gotta do what is necessary to keep up your hobby. Not down with getting insurance tho, at least not in NYC 😂 . But if we're gonna go that far, then NYC needs to open up more parking lot spaces now that many apartment buildings are banning them, including mine. I have until April 1st to remove it from the premise. Probably will have to sell, then get a new one later this year once I can find parking accommodations.

I like the placement of your rearview mirrors. I recently purchased a Solar FF Lite. I bought a mirror for the left side off amazon but am not happy with it. One thing that they could fix is require all batteries that are shipped to New York City. You are listed that would get rid of half of the trash UPP batteries. And it's just good luck dealing with random people making batteries in their apartments that have no idea what they're doing or are too cheap to do it the right way because anyone can make a battery even safer than UL standards. But you have to put in time and money to do so.

I have no problem with regulating the sell and repair of batteries. As a business owner you have to make sure your business is up to code, if you’re providing service. Neglecting having to your business up to code when repairing batteries is just to make it harder. As for the accident in Florida, the woman that dead was not wearing her helmet while riding her bicycle when she collided with the person on his e-bike. So there’s a 60 day ban on e-bikes, still don’t know who was at fault for the accident. Food delivery workers have to be more careful, NYC accommodates cars and large vehicles more than bikes and PEVs. Navigating the streets while delivering food, dealing with traffic and people is a challenge. But breaking traffic laws to get the customer’s food to its destination, puts everyone at risk. Good to see you back on your feet. I live in Sweden and since 23rd of december 2023 all e scooters with a weight over 14kg (31 lbs) or faster than 20 km/h (12,4 m/h) have to have a traffic insurance. I ride a Klima and the cost for it is $ 7,64/month. I can live with that. Thank you for the great videos.

Well in Florida only one city has temporarily banned them which is the place the accident happened. No Florida is not looking to ban them.

i'm from Paris France and enjoy your video for not long time. Your're for now far from here with a obligatory insurance and the 25 km/h, no cruise control limit. If you go upper you considered illegal and the police can fine you 1500€ AND retrieve your scooter for DESTRUCTION , not even put again in homolagated status, simply destroyed. I own a Honda Monkey 125 in my studio and i'm waiting my Nami Klima MAX. since almost a year and my new job, i tried everything from motorcycle to subway and escooters and the last is the best. I wanted to commute with my 125 monkey witch is a more pleasant ride when everything is fine and it's homolgated. but the mayor of Paris is chasing all gas vehicules and make their life difficult. so traffic jam is immense and i found dangerous to gymkana between cars to just moving. It's so much safer to ride a Escooter with all the parts closed to active traffic, also getting out my monkey from my studio even on first flor is much longer due to weight and doors i have to go through with a 107 kg machine, still very small. EScooter is just a joy and a feel free experience. But blocked to 25 km/h ( 15,6 mPh ) is sometimes dangerous for all the part on the road with traffic, i have also a road racing bike with street configuration and i can faster than this and accelerate if i need too. a Escooter blocked in downhill also at 15,6 is simply ridiculous and dangerous. so it's either a choice to take personal safety risk or being at risk at aggraved accident and for police task force also that have targeted operation against esccoters. for now it seems they have bigger fish to fry and recently Paris ( through a biased vote of the population witch less than 10% decide to BAN all rentals escooters ) you feel that only few people and fans like you and me ride eScooters, they for the most ride well i found, the monowheel as well and skaters. They are just this retarded with no helmet, no lights than drive super fast and like they have stolen it that putting mess, for now i don't see strict application even if the police saw you going over 25 km/h, if you respect the basic law and drive safely. but with the Olympics Games, it's gonna be different and there will be some PEV operation i'm pretty sure. So i gonna be carefull until that. drive safe and hope all that regulation would keep you vlog and enjoy still your commute on your PEV's !

NYC is unable to enforce basic, longstanding laws on cars. Laws like "have a license plate" or "don't run reds". There is zero chance that NYC will pass and enforce regulation on emobility. The bigger risk is landlord building bans. Those are actually enforceable.

Great video bud. Watched the entire thing. Very interesting topic. Of course where I live none of this is an issue so maybe I don't have a horse to enter but here is my take. So there is another thing that I like that on a regular basis gets a bad rap because of knee jerk reactions from the uninformed. So I know where you are coming from. In reality it's your politicians listening to the louder voices. The only way to combat it is to be the louder voice with facts that can back your claims. Doing it on RU-vid is a start but we all in the community need to go further if we want it to last. The one thing that absolutely doesn't help are those who do the clearly illegal riding on RU-vid. I will still watch bud if you go to an emotorcycle but don't sound like the fight is over. Dude it has just begun.

Where I live escooter/ebike regulations are really tight. If your escooter/ebike goes over 25 km/h it's classified as a moped. And if it goes over 45 km/h, it's classified as a lightweight motorcycle. Also EU banned cruise control on escooters few years ago, and soon escooters that weigh more than 25kg need to be insured. But anyways, I'm happy to hear you're feeling better, and thanks for the great video like always!

I almost feel bad for riding like a demon on my scooter after watching your ride and monolog.

Most, if not all states have some kind of regulation on ebikes and escooters. NY for example limits them to 20mph, 750 watts and under 100lbs. Is a cop going to put it on a scale or take the motor apart to find out the wattage? No. But if you ride responsibly (keep to the right as much as possible, don’t dart in and out of traffic, don’t impede traffic, obey traffic rules, wear a helmet) you should be fine. It’s the dangerous riders that are ruining it for the rest of us.

All they need to do is let sur ron type bike be a moped 40mph. Anything higher treat it as a motorcycle. How can something that can reach 50mph have no registration, insurance or license. While my actual electric motorcycle does.

It is gonna take a huge fight to make PEVs legal and standard. Too many things related to cars directly or indirectly profit from cars. Car makers, Car Dealers, Car Repair, Car Towing, Bank Car loans, Car insurance DMV Licenses, Registration LE tickets, fines Drivers Ed. Courses Smog Certification Streets and Highway infrastructure Toll Roads Parking Gas Stations Big O.i.l Companies Auto Parts Marker Auto Part stores Mechanic Entertainment The above spent over 100 years to get things they way they are and they aren't going down without a fight and major push back

From a European perspective you were driving recklessly on combined pedestrian cycle paths past a guy. You were also crossing what we call zebra crossings for pedestrians when they still had right of way. Vary bad form. The speeds you are going at are similar to a moped/small motorbike. In Europe the maximum power for an ebike is 250 watts and 15.5 MPH. Anything more powerful than that and it is classed as a moped at least and needs insurance and a type class. You must not 'over volt' the motor to make it go faster. So if your bike comes with a 36 volt battery you must not put a 52 or higher volted battery on to make it go faster. I can see the authorities bringing in similar legislation in the USA.

And the more people use PEVs the more the city wants to make MONEY!

Think you're not being honest with yourself here cause you yourself like you said are so invested in the PEV space. With spring approaching and the mega ride season starting its honestly only a matter of time. Even last year cops would give me dirty looks when I'm on my Talaria, come to find out there was a mega ride that weekend before. You made a good point about "All the kids" and a lot of the stigma are young dumbass kids being hooligans on these high speed death traps. The fact that this shit is unregulated is mind boggling, that a 14 year old can hop on a Surron or Nami and do 40mph without any gear or wits about any traffic laws. Honestly this all stems from just lack of knowledge, any joe smoe can get a scooter ebike but these same people have never driven a car before at the minimum to even know how to behave on the streets where they are supposed to be...not the side walk. My commute to work is getting crazier every day cause of idiots on scooters and ebikes just doing the dumbest shit and not obeying any traffic laws. At the end of the day if you're a responsible person you'll register and go by the books to continue doing what you do.

I'm fine with registration, to be honest. It's still much cheaper than owning a car. I think if riders are treated almost equally to drivers and follow traffic laws, they might even be legally protected. (That could shut up the people who badmouth innocent scooter riders. we can say, "This is a legally registered vehicle.") BTW, I'm against kids riding scooters without knowing the basic traffic laws. But here's my concern: The cop didn't bother about the scooters' potential speed in the past. But if scooter registration and insurance become mandatory requirements, we might not be able to lie about the scooter's specs. If e-bikes going up to 28mph are considered Class 3 bicycles, I'm uncertain how scooters going over 40-50mph would be categorized. Without clear guidelines, I'm not sure if they'd be outright illegal. So, if fast scooters can't be registered, should I opt for one that goes under 20mph?

The irony of this video, is that while I do enjoy your videos, even within THIS video you display the reasoning for regulation. I get it. I do. I have fun on my bike too. However, @10:18 near sideswipe, @11:18 just decided to breeze through the red light, @12:20 blowing by pedestrians going 27 plus. Again I get it. But none of what's happening should be surprising.

Many just seem to want to avoid what should be normal. Batteries can be a danger even more in a city where a local fire in one home can effect others. So make sure they are certified the rest of the world does it there is no good reason you would allow crap that brings danger to your loved ones. Second just admit (even in this video i didn't see you or anyone peddle or go bicycle speed) you own a moped/electric scooter. Again fine they can help a city like NY a lot but given the speeds and where you drive them also makes perfect sense you need to follow the same rules. Thats what we do in most of europe ebikes are not really considered any different. They need to be safe and not blow up, if they act like a bicycle the law will see them as bicycle and if they act like moped/scooter they be seen by law as a moped/scooter. All these videos on 'they bad law is trying to take away our toys' without much reason seems to only hurt you. Now i don't know you and i am partly reacting to the look at mine does 40/50/60mph, and look i can do wheelies all day and it has 3000watts and why do i need to follow any rules videos i see online complaining about rules that seem not that weird and compares to other products in the same space.

They always going for 2 things, law abiding citizens and easy money grab. They don't care or don't want to bother with gangs, ghost plates or anything that. Like you said they should sit and work with professionals and legit businesses to create rules with safety in mind. I understand point about UL certification. But do they know the cost of it and how much a company would need to spend to obtain UL for battery and each PEV individually they have to offer? Accidents happen on everything and everywhere, somehow no county baned cars. Banning is not a solution. Back in a days we had bicycle card in the country I'm coming from, similar to driver license allowing you to operate bicycle on the streets. It worked. It was cancelled once my country became part of EU since they didn't have such a thing, but that was before they created bicycle lanes and paths.

Why not just swap from lithium ion batteries to lifpo 4 batteries until a better battery tech comes along.

We all knew these restrictions where on it way . 99% of e-ride videos showcase seriously reckless behavior . Rides above legal power and speed limits , riding on sidewalks and bike lanes on these very powerful , very fast rides . All illegal in all states but they do it anyway . Wheelies on public roads , swerving in and out of traffic and even riding into oncoming traffic lanes . To make matters worse showing proof of all this by posting there videos of these things all over RU-vid . So yes , something has to be done , but out right ban is obviously very silly . Others have pointed out then that would mean then that we need to ban cars . So a very silly way to handle it . Registration of these i think is a good direction . With required visible plate to identify those riding above the law . Now sure someone could possibly make up there own plate but overall that would be rare and would help make sure that if the owner loaned out his e-ride, scooter to make the borrower aware of what can come back on him if the borrower rides reckless . I see many RU-vid videos of those modifying there rides to thousands of watts . Those should obviously require a liscence , registration and insurance . Mopeds of this power have always required these things so obviously if an e-ride has that kind of power it is no longer in any stretch considered under E-bike classification.

This is something that the pev community needs to protest. We can’t just lay down and let them steel this from us. U don’t sound willing to fight these laws, it’s kind disappointing to me. Content creators should be the ones leading this fight.

No I disagree I don't think we should just sit back and do nothing yes they should be a age limit but what gives them the right put a Ban and decide what regulation they should have for e-bikes there are more car fatalities than bikes there people who can't afford Transportation that's the luxury of having a e-bike scooter it's a one time a payment with no worries unlike having a car

Here in Canada if you already have a driver license you don't need nothing more but if you are under 18 you need a gas scooter permit at minimum
