Hello Alan, don't mind these people they can proberly not draw and paint and you right wy are they watching if thy put a thumbs down , keep up the good work! i love your paintings!! love and positivite are the most two inportent things in life!
Your videos became an important part of my every night , I have to watch at least two amzing peices getting painted and listened to . I think you are great with pen and wash , please give us more of that , and have a nice year .
I did one this morning dear backo,,but I forgot to take my nerve tablets, and I had the shakes a little, see what you think ,I could not draw a straight line at all , I will pop it on Sunday morning uk time
Alan, I really enjoy your commentary-even the "mistakes" because you sound like a regular person and you don't let it spoil the work. I very much enjoyed the pen drawing of the village. Thanks for the inspiration!
Love the line and wash, great job. Don't let the thumbs down bother you. You have a whole lot more thumbs up so that should tell you something. They don't like it, let them look elsewhere.
Thank you for your demonstration. I hadn't thought about working simultaneously with pen and watercolors. It makes the process more fluid. Your video technique is comfortable to watch! cheers, bill
Hi Alan. These are wonderful and inspiring videos. I come home after a long and frustrating day, watch and listen as you do another lovely piece of work - and then turn to the easel and try to emulate your work. I'm very grateful than a man of your talent can share such an amazing skill with such modesty. Thank you indeed.
Alan...I appreciate your teaching technique. So comforting as I learn by watching and listening to you walk me through the steps. I love your work! Thank you!
I agree with Barbara, the smudge by the chimney does look like smoke. Sometimes the greatest things can come out of little accidents. You make it look so easy and we all know that it isnt. Thanks again for another wonderful video.
Appreciate the talk on tonal value and the properties of the different yellows. Also the tip on creating trees at the end, only don't try to talk over the dryer. Couldn't hear much. Thanks again for transforming a plain white sheet of paper to a masterpiece.
Amazing painting, love your teaching! I will be able to paint along. AND I love the mourning doves in the background! Thank you for taking the time to teach us!
WOW Hello Alan, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR OWN FANTASTIC STYLE OF PEN AND WASH AND WATERCOLOUR. I have been watching for a while and find it very easy to grasp your tutorial videos. Looking forward to many more and you have inspired e greatly to keep going as I have only been painting a few months. I take it you have been panting many years.. I Love, Love, Love It. Thankyou so very very much for your time and effort. Bye for now but I'll be watching you from Down Under, PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA. x
You always manage to capture fresh air and light in your pictures Alan. I have been painting for over sixty years but I still manage to learn from other peoples paintings. I have certainly learned from yours.
I wonder why people who give a thumbs down watch me paint .I would feel very guilty and a bitter person ,if Watched another channel and did the same ...surely a no thumbs up is sufficient .could it be the green monster jealousy,,,,
+Alan Owen I don't think the thumbs down mean much of anything. There are probably people who just wander around giving a thumbs down to every video they come across and I'm not a psychiatrist so I don't know why, and think it's not worth a thought. By my count there are 117k views so the 32 thumbs down is just what comes with any video.
+Alan Owen Alan, these are probably the same people who can't resist putting moustaches on advertising posters. Not worth your time to worry about them.
First time I have watched you. I was spellbound. Thank you! I am not a painter but you have made me want to give it a go. How good of you to share your gift
WE love your work Alan. Please ignore the trolls. They are everywhere on the internet. They'd thumbs down even a Michaelangelo. Devil bless their souls. :)
I admire a man who goes straight in with the pen and ink - no preliminary pencil work; I always used to do that, and of course got too tight because I was trying to be careful. It's damp here, too (damp everywhere!), and I use sepia ink when it is, because if I do accidentally paint into wet ink, it's much easier to clean it up and hide my mistakes.
Extra comment. I really like the sky colours and have been looking for a good tutorial on a watercolour sky. I will look at other tutorials by Alan Owen for further tutoring. Many thanks for putting this up for us learner watercolour painters.
Excellent!, as usual! I love the English country lane and landscape. I do want you to know that when you use the hairdryer, you cannot be heard. I am sure that you said something very important then, of course. Looking forward to the next one!
Today I saw for the first time 2 of your paintings. I did enjoy it very much. I am a beginner. Thanks you for sharing your `gifts`. I'll follow you from the Netherlands!
Thank you so much for your amazing work. I'm a 20 years old student and I live in Switzerland so I dont' right English really well but I understood your advices!
Alan, what a wonderful demo. I will try it tonight. I got an advice from you regarding water color paper about an year ago and I was thinking about it and your advice and immediately started looking for your videos and stumbled on this one. how lucky am i to see this video.
You do pen and wash as I like to do them, but your trees are better so I must practice trees. Thank you for your easy going manner and for showing us your mixing palette.
After some few years watching your work I just came across this one....One of the most beautiful in your entire portfolio! I hope it is framed and placed where it can be enjoyed.
Beautifully done! I'm trying to start a pen and ink seascape of Nubble lighthouse for my husband on our 10 year wedding anniversary. I will try your techniques. Thank you!
and yet another wonderful painting Alan... sigh! you make it seem so easy, bless you. I am a real beginner and your videos are absolutely blooming marvellous... a joy to watch and follow...
Have just found your videos. As a beginner, I find them really inspiring and accessible. I'm so pleased to see there are lots more to enjoy.Thank you for taking the time to share your amazing skills and experience.
Thank you for taking time to make this video. I'm trying my best to understand ink and wash technique. You have really enlightened me. Thank you much!!
I am a complete beginner to painting and your video's are very useful to me so thanks for taking the time to make them and uploading i have subscribed and will be a regular visitor.to your channel.
I can easily talk posh ,,but we call that putting it on here in Wigan .my aunty May had a wonderful telephone voice .,,,,,,,,ohhhh helloooo ,,,,,,,,,,she was lovely old soul ,all the family loved her to bits
Thank you so much Sir! I love your paintings very much. You inspire me so much. You give us confidence in your lessons., something that is so important when we are learning. Your Style is Awsome.i kind of feel that I'am one of those people walking in the painting. God Bless you Always .You are very Contagious in a ""Great Way."""
I like to let people get right into the scene as I paint ,but with some artists dvd,s you are shown parts of the scene as they paint ,the camera never dwells long enough on the painting, artists turn to pose into the camera to often and talk to much ,,,often watching them I get narked and shout"" well come on then shows us will yah "" /there again I hear ..he,s a grumpy old man talking
I really appreciate you showing us how you do the drawing first; it is very helpful. Other tutorials start painting immediately and for me, seeing how the landscape is created from the beginning is invaluable. Thank you
Hi Alan Thanks for your wonderful youtube paintings, I am a beginner painter and love watercolour, it is really exciting as one isn't quite sure what the end result will be. I am truly inspired by your work and your philosophy to guide fellow painters without expecting financial reward, it seems you are quite content with life and enjoying your online presentations. If I may make a request, another pen and wash would be appreciated as I love the idea of the pen being the guide. God bless you for your efforts
I've finally found my style painting with you Mr Owen! I barely can decipher your strong accent but it's not your words so much as your gentle instruction. Thank you! Would you mind sharing where you reside? My people are Hamilton's from the lowlands of Scotland and on my mother's side, Heath's from the Highlands. We are retired in Texas but don't speak with a southern drawl. Thanks again!!!
Lograste un hermoso efecto trabajando con tinta y acuarela. Felicitaciones por tan hermosa obra! Amo tus casitas que por el efecto de luces y sombras parecen en 3D. Gracias Alan!!
Great for a learner like me. The simplicity with which you describe the process removes any apprehension about going straight in with the pen (previously I've sketched in pencil and then gone over the marks with ink). However, I'm using a Sakura Pigma Micron 005 pen, and although it says the ink is waterproof, I have found that it 'bleeds' when applying watercolour on occasion, but rather than tearing the painting up, taking your lead, I now wait and attempt to rescue it, which has worked very well so thanks for that! Keep up the good work as I love your laid back approach!
This is totally amazing...My first was a disaster, but I think watching this will help me along. I need to loosen up and not try to be so detailed...Thank you....
awwww thank you so much Alan. I am 6weeks into a water colour weekly class and need more practice in sketching and your lesson has been soooooo helpful. I love what Ive managed to create with your expert tuition and help. very very passionate with my new found love of water colours. I see everything in water colour now. lol. Thanks again. chuffed!!! :) Min
Great lesson, Thank you Alan! I've wanted to give pen and wash a try but have been intimidated, thinking my drawing skills a bit inadequate. Maybe I Can do this and my drawing may just give it "character"! I was amazed at how when you 'flattened' the trees over the house how it made such a difference and brought your eye back into the picture, Great Tip! I still struggle with my perspective but have learned so much from you! Thanks again, Suzanne.
I've always liked watercolor wash and black ink, but haven't tried it in a long time. Plus, I always started with the watercolor, and finished up with ink, I'm going to try it this way, ink before paint. Thanks so much for this video :-)
I love this one and have watched it several times. I have learned so much from you. I went and ordered some ink and a pen and looking forward to trying this one------as always. God bless.
Diane if your ink is not waterproof you will have to use it on top of your painting .thats ok .but I have used LIQUITEX ACRYLIC PROFESSIONAL CARBON BLACK INK ,,,,. it is in colours ,, or try some black acrylic in a little water ,give the acrylic ink a little time to dry before over painting or use an hair drier
Your work is amazing, I have tried some of your techniques while painting and i find it they very simple yet very effective. Keep posting your work. Very encouraging for amateur artist like me. Thanks.
you know every time I do this .it takes me back to that day when i was sat in the car across the road ,,painting ,but I was always afraid some one would see me in the car .and come and over thinking the wrong thing,, and move me on. It,s always the same in a country lane someone will stop.a local ,/,a farmer ./a .bobby// and knock on the window and say what are you doing here, sir ,,?
Alan Owen my husband gets the same thing as he is a wildlife photographer and people often want to know what he’s up to. My problem with painting outside is I don’t feel good enough to let strangers see my scribbling so I park the car and paint from there.
