Superb job, I was a sign writer ages ago before the dreaded vinyl lettering become a thing and ended the hand written sign business for a while so it's brilliant to see you bringing back the art, well done.
I’m impressed how even you keep the letters and the spacing between the letters and drop shadow. You must have a steady hand, a good eye and no doubt plenty of practice! I struggle just doing hand lettering in a book using guides. I love the vintage style colouring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks again Masha, In this video the paper has faint markings for the lettering, as the wording was designed beforehand. So it's not entirely from my head.
Great job I fix cars and if you made me that I’d love it. Hope you find Bill and get it to him I bet he’d love that!!! Nice consistency and spacing shadowing etc!!
Cool to see someone else keeping the art of sign painting alive. Cool stuff. Definitely going to share this (new?) site with all of my art peers... They're gonna love it... Keep it up!
Please do! It's a brand new channel that I will be uploading weekly for, so there will be lots stuff to come! Hopefully some bigger and cooler stuff too
That's really exciting! Good on ya man! I'm not on any social media but i have shared this with all of my muralist/graffiti/typography peers! I told them to tell you that i sent you. Hopefully they will start to fill your subs!!! Oh, and thank you for the led zeppelin video... They are definitely my wife's favorite band and it gave me a chance to watch something with her that we were both excited about... It's not very often i get the chance to say " you wanna watch someone draw letters with me...?" The Bill's Auto was impressive! You hit those shadows like it was nothing. Very impressed. Let's see how many people i can get to check this out... Because i love it! When i can't do art, for whatever reason, I'm watching someone do their's. Thanks again for the content!
Hi mate, Don't show a lot of that stage on the early video's. I'm posting more videos showing drawn letters and designs and have a few cool ideas in the pipeline you may really like!
Truth be told, i normally don't.make a drawing for that if I'm paintjng script by hand. With this piece it is a design I made on pc so I thought to add that.
Your work is very creative and inspiring, I've been lettering for a few years now but it sure takes practice ,that's for sure! Any advice for a lefthander? Mahl stick does seem to help though. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Daniel, Really glad your into lettering too and that you get something from the videos, best advice I can give is to follow some of the groups that post about this stuff. They always have really useful info and questions on there. Good luck pal!
“You missed a bit”. The blue shadow on the upper part of the ‘t’ in Auto. Other than that though it was great. Keep going - the more people keeping the art alive, the better.
Hey again, Yeah I remember missing it on my first coat, I think maybe I wanted to use a smaller brush, but I do have the WORST memory known to man so don't entirely remember. The pictures in the end show it, so I painted it in at some point, but yeah it doesn't show it in the video.
How do you like the Ronan paint? Do you thin it? I've never used it but have used 1shot for awhile. Wasn't sure if you used mineral spirits? Is Ronan just for sign painting or do people stripe with it?
Hi josh, I really like the the ronan paints. Well most of them. They dry quick, flow well and cover like 1shot. Only thing is I've noticed is it can't be gilded with due to the quick drying. Some colours are better than others. I tried a green and it sucked. But most greens I try aren't the best.
How did you learn more traditional styles of lettering and cursive? I've noticed majority of the styles today are more modernized, and it's difficult finding books or resources on traditional lettering
Hi Rayanna, Font sheets can be useful for certain fonts if your learning to recall from memory. They will show you the order for the strokes too. I'm not sure of there is a great deal for fonts like this though. I took this font and edited it beforehand to make the drawing for this. If you can get a printout of all the letters from a font you like you may be able to redraw it with your own spin.
@@theletterhead Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! This is helpful to begin my journey. Wow! It sounds like you customized a pre-existing font. The sign came out wonderfully ( I'm certain you're aware ) Thank you, again.
