At age 60, I took early retirement and walked away from my career and living in a big city. I moved back to the family homestead I'd inherited. I was ready and I never looked back! The harder part has been letting go of people that I had cared about deeply throughout my life... to death or to other separations. The lingering pain of feeling hurt and abandoned by them. And then realizing as time passed that that vulnerable part of me had become cold and unfeeling about those individuals to compensate. It's a little scary to me how calculated that part of my personality is. I recently heard from a mutual friend that a man who'd dumped me after a long romantic relationship in my late 30s died 13 years ago. My first reaction was relief that I wouldn't have to worry about running into him in our old neighborhood when I visited. Perhaps living long is the best revenge!😊

I confess I laughed out loud at this news of your ex.

I’m a bit envious you have a family homestead to go to.

@@LilyGazou I am a little bit ashamed of that sense of relief I felt hearing if his passing. But that's being honest and human. My point is that I no longer am involved in all that craziness and life is so much more pleasant now (despite the annoyances of an aging body and a fixed income!) Peace!

There are issues here as well. Large predators lurking around after dark (coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions and black bears). Noxious weeds, biting bugs, poisonous snakes and costly household and property repairs. But it's quiet and usually manageable as long as I stay calm and physically motivated! 🤗😻👍

You are not alone. I moved away "off grid" because of my husband's choice for work. My "Christians friends" judged ME, without even talking it out, so when I moved, I had no friends. I live in the country, and I have been very lonely. But God has shown me that HE is always here for me and He provides. So, I'm guessing they wern't that good of friends. Surface level. I pray for them anyway. You never know what ( or who) you don't really need until you don't have it ( or them) anymore. Just think how much character you're building.😂😘ps-and I'm 60 🙄

Thank you Forest Fairy, crying is good for the soul. I cry in private as there is then no critic or expectation and I can just release. I passed your video on to a friend that needed this conversation, having lost her husband a year ago. She so much appreciated it and binged all your videos last night!!

Thank you for your description of grief, it makes sense about how grief softens, and when that flow of sadness or memory comes, we can allow the emotion to surface and pass, remembering them with love and fondness 🥰 I have let go of hiding my grief and allow it to just be there when it needs to, without becoming too distressed ♥️ it was great seeing your lovely little dog in the background 🐶

Yes, I find grief does not go away… it just softens♥️ Good idea to allow it to flow without becoming too distressed. I’ll have to introduce the Mongrels🐶🐻

Love this video... so glad I found your channel. Watching the documentary called "Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things" has helped me. I've watched it three times already. But one thing that I'm finding harder to let go of is photos. I only look at them once in a great while... like every few years at most... but I find that throwing them away feels like throwing the people or pets away that are in the photos. I've gotten rid of two small bags already, but when I can get rid of everything but 1 album, I think I'll really be letting go. Thanks for this great inspiration!

Minimalising can be really hard😅 I’m not minimalising & there are a few things I’m not getting rid of 😁 and my photo albums is one where I draw the line. I just got rid of the stuff I knew didn’t really matter to me, but kept stuff that would make the minimalists cringe 😀 You do you!

I had four storage units of my parents' stuff and am now done to one. I retired early from my job and now working on a large book, but slowly. I am hoping to move to a place that fits my lifestyle since I have a lot of hobbies.

I helped a friend downsize her mother’s home full of possessions to fit into an apartment. It took months. And when her mother died, all that will have to be dispersed too. It inspired us to do the same clearing out of our own things.

We are inherently social, even us introverts. We actually miss people. While I would love to stay within my four walls like I did over that year, but people, especially those friends that brought joy became a craving. Love your insight ❤

I Love your videos & messages. You have excellent FLO; it does make a difference. Plus, you have excellent solutions, suggestions, & Points of Views. Currently, I have people to which I've moved on & Let go; but they haven't. I don't respond to text, etc. hoping they'll get the hint. Not so. I don't have any intentions of being mean NOR trying to explain in a conversation; b/c I know this will resort in More frustration for me. I've done it energetically & sent them Love. It'll happen, I'm sure.

Thank you for the kind words! Agree, the important thing with doing something like moving on, is to do it without being mean nor trying to explain.
