Lev Shestov was a Russian existentialist philosophy working in the late 19th to early 20th century. He was very interested in the idea of freedom and creativity, wanting to see individuals have the freedom to construct and change their worldviews. However, philosophical systems that claim to be absolute and objective would get in the way of one's creativity. Logic and reason would restrain one's imagination.
Therefore, Shestov emphasized the importance of immense possibility in this world. If anything is possible and is subject to change, then any world view could be possible. We might find this to be bizarre, but it may as well be that we're like caterpillar nestled in a cocoon that we consider to be the end all be all of our world. One day we might leave that cocoon and discover a brand new world.

As Berdyaev would say about Shestov " Lev Shestov was a philosopher who philosophized with his whole being, for whom philosophy was not an academic specialty but a matter of life and death" ❤️❤️❤️Thank you so much for this video ❤️❤️❤️

I seem to remember Shestov being especially exercised over the unjust death of Socrates-and that any God worthy of the name, not bound by logic or past realities, must be able to totally rewrite such past injustices and misfortunes. Shestov was furious that Christian theologians had limited their God’s power to the logically possible. I mean…wow!

A man after my own heart. Survive, adapt & overcome. Change (either for better or for worse) is inevitable & it's necessary. Closed-mindedness, is a sickness. "Philosophize with a grenade." 😎 love it 👊🏼

I'm so happy seeing you make a video about Shestov! Finally Eastern European philosophers are taken into consideration on yt.

I'm glad to have discovered him! Do you have any other suggestions for forgotten eastern european philosophers?

This is similar to Feyerabend, who proposed the method of counterinduction, where proposed and developed hypotheses that contradict established theories

I am very sure that only a few people have heard about the great Armenian philosopher (DAVID THE INVINCIBLE) philosophy as a lifestyle. I hope you will like my suggestion on the index of the forgotten philosophers🙏🏻

Good video! The importance of immagination and the breakage of rules. Structures like reason, logic and truth give power - but breaking structure permits new solutions - though some of these solutions risk being pitfalls.

Great job explaining Shestov. To me he was the wests most eastern philosopher :) ... his idea of finding your own philosophy is similar to Osho's comment on everybody should have their own religion. Incredible philosopher.

Another great video, I've stayed away from Shestov for a couple reasons mainly his aphoristic style but you have inspired me to give him another look. Still waiting on Han Ryner

Another great video 💛 As for Shestov, I can see where he’s coming from. However, I ultimately disagree that we can think outside the framework of logic. What I mean by this is that all thought can be categorized as logical pictures as entailed by Wittgenstein. I don’t know if you’ve covered Witty or not, but he’s interesting.
