@BV3D
@BV3D 3 года назад
Hi! You're right, I I didn't cover setting the X and Y offsets for the probe. I was using Creality's BL Touch firmware for the Ender-3 V2, the X and Y offsets are set correctly for their probe mount. But if you want to physically measure the offsets, try this: Measure X and Y offsets by placing a piece of paper--I'd use graph paper--on the bed. Line up one edge of the paper on an edge of the bed. Manually lower the nozzle to the bed. Use a pen to make a dot where the nozzle touches the paper. Raise the nozzle a little, and manually deploy the BL Touch probe. You can gently pull it down to extend it. Manually lower the nozzle toward the bed, and when the probe tip is just about to touch the paper, use a pen to put a dot where it'll touch. On the paper, draw a rectangle, using the graph paper's grid for alignment, with the two dots as reference points for opposite corners. The length (left to right) of the rectangle represents your X offset, and the width (front to back) of the rectangle represents your Y offset.

Howdy Friend. I kept getting hyper-fixed on your UT longhorn coaster on the bottom left of the screen. Lol. I also realized about half way into me typing this that some content creators might enjoy some anonymity so no need to reply if ya choose but a big HELLO from Bulverde, TX! :) I had gotten tired with trying to go with offshoots like (A8, Aquila X2, etc) and always run into issues with ability to either upgrade or mod even though they are basically aestheticlly similar however the internals are divergent tech which for instance adds in st links, soldering, and a whole slew of things not to mention the passionate yet low populations of these communities that help make marlin and a few others finally accessible. So I just got a new Ender 3 v2 on a amazon lighting deal and was able to get a CR Touch along with their new Sprite Direct Drive for literally about $150 less than the S1. And deciding to have some background help with the install I have seen many of your videos and its was an easy selection. So thank you for your hardwork and pro-level content.

@@mykehdoom Sure, when I first did my z offset it was hard to measure the distance from the tip to the be, so I took a pack of playing cards and put as many as i could under the hot end tip. I then measure the cards with a calipers to see how much I have to move the z offset, once I get it to less than a millimeter, I make the finer adjustments. I found it saved time when you are starting out to get your z offset. Hope that helps.

I am puzzled by the connection you made to the motherboard (7.25 on the video). All the other examples that I have seen, starting from the front, are white, black, yellow, orange and brown. These are consistent with the annotation on my 4.2.2 board. For example the 4th pin from the front is "V" for the 5 volt feed. Your set up has the z switch ground on that pin. I have 3 + 2 leads on my BLTouch which I connected using the equivalent of your set up and it gave me the black screen. I've fitted a new board and am doing serious research before trying again.

Bit the bullet and went with, from the front, White, Black, Yellow, Red and Brown. Works OK. The plugs were quite loose so I used a spot of hot glue to hold them in place. Bryans lead must be consistently non standard at both ends.

@BV3D
@BV3D Год назад
Hi, Once cause of the Really Loud Beep issue may be installing the wrong firmware for the board that's in the printer. Double-check that the firmware matches the printer's main board. In the almost two years since this video was released, I think Creality has moved the firmware files to various places on their site numerous times, so the links and locations shown in the video may no longer align with reality. If you let me know which board revision is installed in the printer, I can try to find the appropriate firmware file for it. Creality's got all their Ender-3 V2 files stored here, and this appears to be the most up-to-date: www.creality.com/pages/download-ender-3-v2?spm=..page_1934481.products_display_1.1&spm_prev=..index.header_1.1 The firmware update kind of needs its own video, and that was linked in the description of this video, as well as mentioned and pointed out as a clickable card in the top right corner of the video. And here's a link to the video if you still need it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BI269XHyAFg.html And at the 7:52 point, I do show unplugging and removing the Z end stop switch. Though it's not explicitly stated, this is shown after replacing the bottom cover of the electronics box, and before the printer is shown making use of the probe when homing. I try to be clear in my videos, but I obviously missed pointing that out. Thanks for bringing it up!

I don't see the point to install this. Just level the bed manually thats the best way
@BV3D
@BV3D 3 года назад
If your printer's bed is flat, and you're able to manually level it, that's awesome, and of course in that situation you don't need a bed probe. As I mentioned, for my particular printer, this wasn't strictly necessary, as the glass is reasonably flat and doesn't present much of an issue. Others have beds that dip in the middle or bow up in the middle, and for these, at least in extreme situations, you can either get the middle of the bed good, or the corners, but not both. A mesh leveling probe allows the firmware to generate a "topographical map" of the bed, and automatically adjust the Z axis to keep the nozzle flying at a consistent altitude from the bed on each layer.

Hi, it's accurate with regard to the wiring and mounting of the BL Touch, but finding Creality's firmware files is kind of a mess. You might want to give the precompiled JyersUI firmware a look; there's a version of it supporting the BL Touch. See github.com/Jyers/Marlin/releases You'll still need to know if your printer has a version 4.2.2 or 4.2.7 main board in order to select the correct file. There are a lot of files to choose from. If you need help picking a file, let me know.

The back left corner is the one with the cable strain relief, and that's kind of held in place by the spring in that corner. So there's more compression on that spring than on the other ones. If that corner is tightened all the way down to where the spring is fully compressed, you might need to raise the Z axis limit switch up by a millimeter or two, then re-level the bed. Or, if everything is working fine, it's probably OK to leave it as-is. :) No sense fixing it if it's working.

Hey Bryan nice videos but I'm still having trouble with my printer its the same version 3v2 with 4.2.2 and same BL touch but every time I change the z axis even to -10 and back to 0 it will stay at the same height after z axis adjustments. On side note I see that video was done in San Antonio would be great if we can meet up to salvage this debacle.

BL Touch update for the JyersUI Firmware. Thanks Bryan for all the great information. I really like the JyersUI firmware upgrade, lots of advantages over the standard firmware. But now my BL Touch is out of calibration and I can't figure out how to properly set it to run with the upgrade. Could you produce a video explaining how to set it up to run with the new firmware? Got a BLTouch from MatterHackers and, no joke, they ONLY ship the probe thing...no brackets, no extension cable...just the probe thing. I emailed them like, "what even is the point of selling ONLY the probe?" Makes NO sense. Now I'm printing a bracket that I hope will work and I'm going to have to try to figure out some way to extend the cables. How stupid...

I'm brand new, as in, had my printer for about 3 days. I cannot stand leveling the bed, and it appears that my bed is also warped, with high and low spots all around. You're telling me, that if I buy this BLTouch thing, I no longer have to level the bed? What if its already out of adjustment? Do you level the bed before installing this?? Or do I simply screw the bed down all the way? Please help me understand. I really want to make some awesome prints, but so far, frustration is an understatement. All I've done so far is print screwed up cubes and leveling squares, trying to diagnose issues. I'm fairly tech/mechanically savvy, but as of now, I simply want to take a hammer to this damn thing! Leveling the bed seems to be the issue all the way around (that and print speed, temp, cooling, etc, according to a friend who has been printing for about a year). I am considering this BLTouch. Thank you!

Great video, I think it has the opposite effect on me than what creality would hope for though. This helped me decide that the BLtouch isn't for me. I do have the warped glass plate that the enders are apparently known for, but rather than buy the leveling system and go through the setup and install, I've just decided to buy replacement plates that are known to be much flatter and I'm getting two of them for half the price of the BLtouch without having to deal with a firmware update, guess-and-check z-offset (or offest) and more moving parts with potential for failure. Thanks for the thorough and honest review.

I know this is a longshot to get a reply but My printers been working fine after following your video but recently when i tried to set the z offset and autohome it makes a loud noise from the bed as if it was trying to retract back more. and now my probe wont even probe the bed cause it keeps missing it lol would you know if im doing something wrong?

Hi! When performing a "home all" on a printer with a bed probe, the printer usually homes X, then homes Y, then moves X to the center position, Y to the center position, and then it homes Z, more or less right in the center of the bed. It sounds like what you're describing is that when the Y axis homes, it moves the bed all the way to the back of the printer, but instead of stopping, the stepper motors just keep on trying to move the bed... But it can't, because the bed can only move so far. If that's what happens, then I recommend checking the Y axis limit switch. When the Y axis homes, it should trigger that switch, and the bed should stop moving back. But it sounds like the switch isn't being triggered. Things to check on that switch are that the cable is plugged in. You might unplug the switch's cable and then plug it in again to make sure it's fully seated. And also check to make sure that the switch still has its silver paddle thing in place. Hopefully it's just a problem with that switch.

Thanks very much for this brilliant video. I followed your instructions to the letter..... Except, I actually found it really easy to feed the BL-Touch cable inside the sleeving all the way from the Motherboard to the hot end you only have to snip a few cable ties and replace them afterwards. This makes a very neat looking installation.

installed this about 3 years ago and your straight forward and complete explanation made it easy to install! Thanks so much for the tips and tricks along the way! It still works well after all this time! I have a question: Does the printer keep the bed leveling coordinates for successive prints or do I need to run it for every print? I just started using the z-hop feature in Cura and it's hard to locate items on the print surface and miss the probe locations.

WARNING!!!! I had wished that i knew one IMPORTANT bug was mentioned during this tutorioul as i just managed to ruin my bed after following this guide 100% and doing my usuall tweaking during printing... The Z-Offset which is added by the newly added BL touch to eg. -2.70 mm is not known to the current print, so if you tweak this slightly (i do this sometimes if i see its off by 0.1 mm as i was used to this tollerance variation from my regular Z-axis home sensor) BUT DONT TWEAK THIS AT ALL!!! WARNING!!! If you change this value during print it will not change from eg. current -2.70+ the change but the ENTIRE -2.70 + change! e.g instead of moving -0.1 if you changed it to -2.80 it will move -2.80!!!! Hope this info can save others from ruining their bed! Second error, DO NOT use the regular "Auto-home" functionality as this will look for the regular Z-axis sensor and not the BL touch!!! Another bug!!! Use the newly added button on the front page of your ender 3 V2

I am new to 3D printing and I have an Ender 3 V2 with an add-on CR Touch leveler on order. Did I make a mistake ordering the CR Touch? Looking at Ender 3 V2 videos most users have BL Touch modules. Most firmware (Marlin, JyersUI, etc. seem to only have BL Touch Binaries). My list of growing concerns are: offsets (are they different), mounting details (can't see many ThingiVerse CR Touch mount projects), and precompiled binaries. Thanks - BTW I have enjoyed watching several BV3D videos, keep up the good work.

Help!!!! I followed your instructions installing the BLTouchV3.1 genuine item. However, after copying the Jyers/Marlin E3V2-BLTouch-5x5-v4.2.2.bin file to my SD and inserting into the E3V2 slot, on powerup I get a dark LCD screen and cannot access the printer at all with octoprint (which was working perfectly on the stock SD card firmware). I fear that I have a brick now. ON powerup, the BLTouch does light up and the probe extends/retracts twice but as I said, the screen remains dark (though it is on because I can see some light emanating from it in the dark). Help!!!! Thanks in advance

Leaving the SD-card out when storing the configuration IS stored on the EEPROM on the motherboard. Put in a SD-card when storing the config you have a backup. Pretty clever made by Creality IMHO but poor documented.
@Ozzie4Para

So if it stores the settings on the card then what happens to people like me that use Octoprint which obviously doesn't use any memory card. What happens then?
@BV3D
@BV3D 3 года назад
Hi! Nothing prevents you from leaving a memory card in the printer for the sole purpose of storing the settings. But you have options. • Since it's possible to set things like acceleration, jerk, e-steps, and Z offset values via G-code, you can add these G-code commands into your slicer's "Starting G-code" settings. • You can set these values manually each time you power on the printer. • You can also compile Marlin for the Ender-3 V2 and install it, and TH3D Studio's Unified Firmware is also an option.

I have actually found the Smith3D firmware to work better than the TH3D. And it does save the settings to the board.

But now I can't seem to be able to install this version.Does annyone know how to fix this problem?I already tried to put the printer back to the factory settings by using the M502 code ending with M500.Maybe i'm doing this wrong because this also does nothing to the settings of the printer en stays on te V 1.04 version while this should be the V1.02 version of the firmware.
