Drybrushing is something i've always known could help me conquer my highlighting woes - but it's always looked streaky and cheap and terrible when i've tried it. This new tool is intended to help me soften my blends and put those woes to bed.

That's an awesome idea. You could even grab an old piece of crappy terrain or dungeon tile pieces of terrain to fit this purpose!

Thats brilliant mate, one of those things that makes perfect sense but i had never considered it. Lost count of the times i put a big streak of unwanted paint on something when drybrushing. For mine i might try make a multi pallette with wet, dry and texture to save having 3 on the bench.

Thanks man, great video and I found a use for a load of 15 yr old resin terrain bits I never found use for. I've gone from not seeing the need for one to plotting it out like a diorama!

Awesome idea! Its nice to leave some flat area to dry-mix on the palette, putting the colors on there directly from the bottle / pot for extra smooth gradients. Also would recommend using a large round brush (e.g. makeup brush) for bigger surfaces. Tabletop Minions has a nice guide on using cheap makeup brushes. Basically you want to use the largest brush you can get away with, without overpainting previously touched detail.

That is a brilliant idea mate! Not just for dry-brushing, but testing out new paints/techniques. With all the different textures/planes and pipes and stuff, wanna try out a new rust technique? See how a particular wash/ink looks over a colour you haven't tried on a flat surface? perfect place to try it without sacrificing a test model. This has definitely gotta go on the to-do list this year! Thanks for an awesome video and take care ;)

Such a simple idea, as many good ones are. Especially the thoughtful mix of the textures and surfaces included. It may have been invented before, but I've not seen it, thanks. One thing that may be an improvement, I've seen some improvement with my dry brushing by using a dampening pad. Including a container for a small sponge as a damp pad. On the hunt for materials now.

I loved Artis Opus's texture palette & was thinking of ordering one but you've taken it 10 steps further!!! Looking for a container to make my own! And IMO putting grout between the tiles was NOT taking it too far :) I'm so happy to have found your channel!! Informative AAAAND enteratining! Cheers!

I do this with a chaos space marine and a few diffirent models to try new stuff on , but this is a much better idea for the dry brushing, sound.

Cheers Dave, totally out of the box thinking but in saying that totally useful, though I'm not a dry brush person and prefer edge highlighting. Each to his/her own I say but what I need these days is something that can stop my hands shaking as much as they do, even when airbrushing, it's not easy getting old and still building models.

Being as colour blind as a large colour blind thing, I drybrush a lot, and I mean a lot. It's a game changer for me, when trying to get some shading on a mini. I had never even thought of a texture box until I watched this, despite watching Artis Opus a few times. Thanks Dave, I will see what I can knock together and see if I can improve that skill.

I honestly can't think of a way to improve this idea! What I can suggest, however, is that it's worth picking up some softer drybrushes, especially if you want to do those smooth curved surfaces. It's worth investing in (and when I say "investing" I really mean "nipping down to the quid shop") some cheap makeup brushes for blusher and contouring. They're soft, rounded, and just the ticket for drybrushing.

This would also be pretty handy for testing out Contrast paints, washes, ink dilution, and kind of thing before putting it on your model.

Something I picked up from some one, was to use a piece of cardboard instead of the paper towl as it soaks up moisture a lot better. But tops vids I'm really enjoying watching these..

Great idea, one thing I hate is when you go to drybrush and it either streaks or is heavier than you wanted. Also good when you drybrush new paint that you haven't used before, I never know exactly how thick it is until I start (and streaks...).
