Dr. Kommoss completed his medical studies at Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany, in 2017 after receiving a business degree from Hagen University. Subsequently, he began his training in Anatomical Pathology at the Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany. Currently, Dr. Kommoss is a postdoctoral fellow in Davids Lab at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia and BC Cancer Research Center in Vancouver, Canada.
During his residency, Dr. Kommoss worked on various aspects of molecular classification of gynecological cancers, including DNA methylation analyses, with a focus on soft tissue tumors. His current work focuses on the DICER1 syndrome and associated neoplasms, where, together with his collaborators, he recently described molecular groups of DICER1-associated mesenchymal tumors. In Vancouver, Dr. Kommoss is working towards a better understanding of these tumor types by applying advanced technologies in human samples and murine disease models.
