Leviathan - Is it good for Blood Angels? (Warhammer 40k) 

I definitely agree with them splitting it. They should have a lore/panting book and another with rules and datasheets. It's difficult to take them around, why so many people use 3rd party apps

I think this box is best for BA players who also have a Tyranids collection and are looking to sell the SM part of the set.

As a BA and Nid player. I'm getting this box, it's a no-brainer for me.

Thank you so much for this video. I do not have the stable hands to be able to build or paint my own units so I recently purchased a leviathan box made to be painted as the Lamenters and since they are a blood angels successor chapter I intended to use the blood angels codex. I was worried it being from the leviathan box it wouldn’t be great for blood angels.

I'm buying this for BA - I have the indomitus half, a bunch of sang guard, death company, mephiston, and Dante. This feels like it fills out a bunch roles for me!

One advantage of monopose is painting, you can put guns and arms on for priming, then take them off for painting those hard to reach places without needing to glue anything. Also kitbashing them is not that hard as really you are looking mainly at the legs/torso to work around, first born arms are not much smaller than primaris arms so swapping arms out with older kits is not too hard especially if you have primaris shoulder pads around that will hide joins etc. Plus kits like the intercessor kits provide plenty of arms to use as well so you don't particularly need to use the monopose arms at all, just cut to the weapon or use completely new weapons. I've recently done some primaris scale davastator squads out of the devastator squad box and intercessor box, created two squads of 5 devastators that primaris scale, but use the devastator weapons, quite a few use the first born arms and you don't notice at all if you line them up right and trim them right.

I have an unbuilt Captain Karlean i plan on mixing with the monopose Captain. thanks for the video! I do have a friend i'm splitting with and i really have no reason other than I just only have played blood angels. The Biologis, Captain, and Sternguard are what i'm after. i have a lot of bits from the old BA Sternguard so i'm wondering what i can kitbash with that.

Nice guide as always. I'm gonna convert all those veterans to bladeguard with som bits, feels better for BA.

I'm running two SM armies so the box is kind of a no brainer for me, even if it isn't 'Blood Angely', the terminators, characters, maybe the flamer guys at least will go in there. I think as well the Sternguard are quite upgradable with bits, they are vets so you can kind of make them how you wish and personalise them, plus one of them already has an old school helmet. Adding some purity seals, some BA specific bits from the upgrade sprues, BA shoulder pads etc. should be doable. Overall thing for me is having that better scale and pushing everything towards primaris scale.

Yep! I’m gonna be picking it up if I can. My army is only 750 points so the terminators, dreadnought, captain, and stern guard are a welcome addition. Plus I want the rule book and cards :)

Great analysis! ... This is the first new edition starter box that I'm NOT buying. There are several reasons why I came to this decision. Like you said it's not a very good boxed set for Blood Angels. I agree. Secondly I don't like mono-pose models. Thirdly I want the terminator squad, the primaris sternguard, and thats all. The Terminator Captain is nice but ... I heard there will be a non-mono-pose terminator captain released later in 10th and I'd rather hold out for him. Finally, I don't want the stress and hassle of another GW launch day event. If it was a better box for us, then yeah I'd probably deal with it, but for this one, nah.

The last time I played 40k was between 4th and 5th edition and there was a mini rulebook available which was great to carry around. Coming back to 40k in 10th and would love to see that again. With everything digital it probably would not happen.

What do you think is the best to buy for a new player. This box or the blood angels combat patrol

I think I just read in the full rules GW just dropped that the walker keyword may count for the counter charge stratagem, like a vehicle can’t do it unless it has the walker keyword

The Sternguard and Dread are going to my Templars, they'll look just the part alongside my Bladeguard, Crusaders and Redemptors. The rest are going Blood AngeIs, I picked up a Contemptor to switch out for the Ballistus, which sits much nicer alongside my Death Company & Librarian Dreads. Bit of an arse it going to legends but meh, looks cool still.

This box for BA: Terminator Captain- Will depend on points and if normal/assault terminators are good- Has potential 8/10 if termis are good Terminator Librarian- Same as Captain 7/10 if terminators are good Lieutenant- If he's cheap he'll be good, his special abilities are potentially really good and a infiltrate/stealth/lone operative until with a reactive reposition is amazing for objectives 10/10 Biologus- Conferring lethal hits could be good for bolt agressors or eradicators if they're good. 5 or 6/10 Dread- Good for people who dont have redemptors or brutalis, 3d print some weapons and 10/10 for versatility running as any of the redemptor chassis 1/10 if you have redemptors or brutalis you can just weapon swap Sternguard- Potent on their own, 6/10 if points are cheap enough 3 or 4/10 if not Terminators- 7/10 but dependent on points and how assault terminators pan out.

Your suggestion John is literally what they did in 2nd Edition with the 3 amazing books: Rulebook, Wargear, and Codex Imperialis… each one only contained lore only where relevant and appropriate…

Tbh. Just wait for terminators separate box+ new melee dread. It all depends on rules for Sanguinary guard, priest and Dante. Still untill our codex drop it not wise to buy anything except new ( one day) thunder hammer termies

The mini chainsword might be to help remove geneseed or take samples to analyse

Naturally I recently finished painting 40 plastic Terminators to replace my old metal ones. The size increase makes the terminators, captain and librarian less than optimal for my Blood Angels army. I would much rather have had a mono pose Brutalis dreadnought for either my Blood Angels or Space Wolves. I like the Sternguard models. Head swaps should be easy. I will likely split the Infernus marines between my Blood Angels and Space Wolves. The Phobos Lieutenant doesn't fit either of my army themes. The Gravis Apothecary looks good and will fit with my Blood Angels well. I will eventually find a use for the terminators. Overall to me the model choice for the marine half of Leviathon is pretty meh. I may trade off or sell the Tyranids. On the other hand making a Combat Patrol from the minis could be fun.

As a Blood angels player, I do not think I will be getting this box. But one never knows, I might get a compulsory click.

For the right price if you split the cost with to keep the SM half, and love SM as much as BA, it's not a bad deal

I collect both armies and the only reason why I will purchase the box is to be able to play Tyranids. Not a single unit (maybe the Termis) is worth for BA and based ln the recent nerf the BA received (Black Rage, losing +1 WR, +1Advance, +1 Charge and of course no Jump Packs for DC Intercessors...) I think I will be playing Tyranids for a while. That' s the only reason why I will purchase it. Most likely I will even sell the useless big-ass-book and all the Space Marines.

BA love flamers though? Infernus squad is as close to rolling a Heavy Flamer Squad but primaris. Defo buying this for BA, maimly its my newer army dont have much in the way of firstborn besides VV and DC, have no termies so any is good. No dreadnoughts so between Brutalis and Ballistus im 2/3 of the way to the 4th companys dreadnought requirements, in my eyes may not play with some of these models but theyll look damn cool on display

Hi BA commander, personally I do not know if I will be buying this, although I really want it, I only have a Shieldreaker strike force (as blood angels) and since I dont have a lot of money I dont know if buying this would boost my BAs, also I dont play tyranids, but Ijust love the new termies so much, so Im at a loss here 😂

14:23 I mostly agreed up until you didn't give the Infernus Marines the highest rating in the box. Overwatch can be fired in your opponent's move phase in 10th, and battle shock turns OC to 0, meaning you can't hold an objective even if you're all that's on it, and preventing the use of stratagems on that unit. Anything that forces your opponent to take extra battle shock tests is going to be worth its weight in ceramite this edition.

Good video john, i do absolutely agree with your assessment and its a great box for those who want to experiment in space marines. If we get another release box, likr a combat patrol, its gonna be whatever the new Space Marine 2 jump pack primaris unit and some form of grav tank with flamers. Dont know if youve seen but some of the major youtube players got to do interviews with someone from gw studio and they have hinted at a veterans type detachment. Whatever it will be, my money is on that being the way blood angels are meant to run.

Tbh besides the Liberian none of the box really appeals to me, they look nice (except the stern look awful) but they lack the blood angels trinkets and details for me, since their no upgrade spurs announced I cant really justify buying it, I just hope the transfer sheet will be buyable since I hate trying to paint blood angels symbols, but I’m just wanting jump units and maybe a new model sanguine guard tease, I do think tho if the new flame troops could be death company rule wise they could be a fun mess around, I’d Say it’s a good box for salamanders tho

Maybe I'll just run my Blood Angels with Salamanders rules sometimes. I think although flamers aren't explicitely a Blood Angels thing, in my head canon, an angel trope and a fire trope fit pretty well.

Saying its a shame the Ballistus only move 8" when Armigers can move 12" seems weird, when the dreadnought is still wide and stumpy and the armigers are like 60% legs (not in mass, but proportionally)

I still want GW to makes the Core Rule Books and Codecis just have the rules for a bit cheaper and have the Collector's Editions include all the lore and photos with the rules. This way, if you just want the rules, you get a more easily portable version for your rules or a nice book to have at home on a shelf.
