Great videos. Try a fleece liner to get rid of the plastic feel. Will also give you a few more degrees of comfort. We use them in the humid climate here in the swamps of SW Louisiana, USA. Also helps out if your bag gets damp. Stay Safe and Healthy.
Bought the same bag about a month ago. Tried it out indoors overnight with the windows open and ended up with the zipper down as I was roasting. Does feel really slippy inside but will get used to it over time. Subscribed to your channel as well.
Hi Claire from across the big pond. Your new bag looks comfy cozy and hope it works perfect. Good luck this weekend on testing it out and let us know how it worked out. Here in Boston Massachusetts we just got our first snowfall which is kind of early. Thanks for sharing and love your sense of humor!! Cheers....Pete. 😊👍
Hey, hope you are well 😁 the leviathan is my favourite bag, very toasty, been using it for over a year now 👌 just a couple of tips for you, the compression sack is pretty rubbish, and I ended up binning mine and using a dry bag, with it being a down bag you can compress it very small this way to save space in your bag 👌 also with it being down you will need some good insulation underneath you either a good mat in your tent or an underblanket in a hammock, as without due to the down being compressed by your body you will get cold spots. Hope this helps😊stay safe, atb, Paul 🙏😁🏕️🏕️🏕️
Heyy thanks Paul, good to hear you get on with it. A few people have said that about the compression sack, I'll deffo use a dry bag. And I have an Xtherm and a silver foam mat that I use under it so should be ok there. I could deffo feel it getting compressed under me. Thanks for the tips! Claire
You put a smile on my face with this one Claire. Can't wait to hear how you got on with it in the outdoors! I have a military Arctic sleeping bag but it's heavy and doesn't pack down very small. This may be my next purchase 😁
@@martinfrancis4606 yeh that bag is no fun at all 😅 I took it out once and never again.. hats off to the army folk lugging that beast about! Hope you can get a lighter system sorted
@@WildBeare I know this is an older post - BUT... As an experiment, sleep out in the back yard, or just next to the landy in the arctic bag whilst it is raining. Oh, and by "in the arctic bag", I mean ONLY the arctic bag. No roll mat, no bivvi, no basha. It simply doesn't matter how wet they get, they still somehow keep you warm. All of us bought gucci civilian camping bags, and all of us suffered ripped, wet and cold sleeping bags as a result. I guess the use-case was a bit different. Most of that kind of gear is the same - Heavy, bulky and usually absolutely stinking - but with total reliability you can stake your life on.
I'm a bit of a snugpak addict Claire. I imagine it's gonna keep you toasty - it might be a warm winter though. Back to the old bag then. Let's hope it gets a good run. Mark
Best not to store synthetic bags compressed either. They can lose half their loft after only a few weeks of compression. Think about how a synthetic bag has been stored at the warehouse/shop since it was made, that might make a season’s difference or more. The lightest, finest synthetic fill is the most susceptible, while the older, coarser, heavier stuff is tougher.
Haha! Brilliant entertaining (as well as informative...!) video I love your presenting style - a breath of fresh air amongst a lot of dour, stilted kit reviews. Hope the Leviathan stands up to the test when you get out, all the best, Andy
Hi Andy, glad you enjoyed it, my 9 year old finds me highly embarrassing hahaha! Thank you, excited to try it out for real :D have a great weekend! Claire
@@WildBeare yes thank you am now in my hammock in the woods having just woken up bit more snuggle time and then up for breakfast. 😂😂😂😂😂👍👍. Thanks for replying
Hi Claire OEX are doing some good gear to be fare, I’m sure your looking forward to some good winter camps, I’ve got the Rab 700 and boy it makes for such a good night sleep ATB Trev
I ALWAYS used to use my old German Army issue sleeping bag .it's filled with duck down,it's EXTREMELY WARM, waterproof..BUT it got lost somehow when I had to move house .it was heavy but well worth it..
Hi Claire Great channel you have here. I have the very same bag that I've used in -7 to -9 degrees and I couldn't fault the bag at all...lovely and toasty. One camping trip I did was cautley spout waterfall in the snow and I was that hot I had to strip to my shorts and vest even though it was freezing outside. You can't go wrong with that bag along with a good four-season sleep mat. Hope I'm not telling you how to suck eggs (parden the expression) but keep the bag in the bigger storage bag when not in use to keep the inner down insulation lofted. so many people use the compression sack to store the bag and ruin the insulation. Subbed your channel Keep the videos coming and take care. Mick
🤣🤣🤣 just happen to stumble across your channel as I was also researching this bag. You made me laugh when doing the end bit and couldn’t keep you face in view. More funny was your son, saying do that again lol. Great videos. Subscribed.
Thanks for the initial thoughts Claire. I am very tempted by this bag. My current one goes down to -1 deg, so am looking for something a bit warmer for winter.
Thanks :D yeh need something warmer for winter, I swear they make these comfort ratings up sometimes, no way in hell my MW purple one would be ok at -1 like it says
@@WildBeare I did a video on understanding sleeping bag ratings that might help, see link below ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9UeTjEl2tlY.html
Hi Claire great video, was looking at the Leviathan but nowhere in stock ...so will have to wait till they come back .. love all your vids , quite refreshing to have a new face on the outdoors scene.. great work .. Love this video though made me giggle.. look like sponge Bob when it's over your head 🧽 😉🤣🤣oh just subscribed 😀
I have a Wiggy's lamilite bag that is bombproof, but very bulky to pack. Last year I bit the bullet and bought an overstuffed Katabatic Flex 20 quilt - eye wateringly expensive but perfect for camping in the snow. Buy once cry once, as they say.
Good first thoughts video there Claire. I"ve wondered about this bag for a while. I use the Mountain Warehouse Everest Down bag for winter which so far has served me well! ATB - Ben
I’ve used mine for a couple of over night wild camps on Dartmoor past two weekends. Very cosy and I actually had to take a couple of layers off as I was too hot! Great bit of kit
Just discovered the channel with this video. Checked out your channel page. Hopefully, your channel takes off with it's light content. Of course, everyone would like to see you in the great out doors, but so far so good. New subscriber.
Well I think that answered my questions 😂, I too have the mountain warehouse 250 summit. That’s been my go too bag for every trip so far. I don’t really want to be restricted though if I fancy a winter camp so perhaps the oex leviathan is the one 🤔 although would be a first having a down bag.
I wear vermals, umpteen T-ee shirts couple or so jumpers, a fur lined jacket, puffa jacket and a rain proof long jacket and a set of waterproofs and a survival bag when I'm off on my travels in winter and a shoulder bag. I sometimes use my long jacket as a blanket. Travelling light. 🤣🤠🙏
😂 nice one Clair! They seem good bags, my mates got one and after a beer last week I couldn’t pronounce it... probably still can’t now 😁 Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend Ash 🏕
@@AshOutdoorsUK do you find it pretty easy to use? I got a DJI gimbal the other day and that seems pretty straight forward. Never flown a drone before and I'm clumsy as hell!
WildBeare lol, it’s really quite simple. I’d say just watch a few videos on how to use before hand then just go practice in a big open area with no or little crash potential sites. Just take it easy 😬 let me know if you need anything else Ash 😊🏕
Great video Claire, I see alot of people are using these bags and highly rate them. When you sinched all the sleeping bag up, you reminded me of Kenny from South Park 🤣😂🤣 maybe on my next youtube live session you'd like to join me on screen?? Have a great weekend. ATB Dave (trousers on still) 😜😁😁
Hi Dave glad to hear you have your trousers on today. Hahaha :D Yeh they seem pretty good for what they cost! YES, KENNY! That's exactly it, lol. Ooo what does that involve.. you have a great weekend too, Claire
@@WildBeare yep trousers still on 😂🤣 no mishaps this weekend 😂 erm all it is, is you joining me on screen, talk about your adventures, gear you use and your channel. ATB Dave 👍
@@DaveOutdoors Eeeak, let me get a bit braver and then I'll deffo do it thank you :D Just posting on my own channel is still way out of my comfort zone at the mo haha!
I move about too much in my sleep to have a mummy bag, I either end up wriggling out of them or trying to strangle myself as I sleep! I use a Snugpak navigator basecamp and then take it up to a four-season with a liner and the Snugpak jungle blanket.
@@WildBeare It about the size of 1kg bag of sugar fully compressed. I had a bad experience on Dartmoor a few years ago where my sleeping bag got soaked and it was all I had, it was a crazy cold night it left me cautious of just being dependent on one item to stay warm so now I always carry the jungle blanket. It is also great for a lightweight summer setup under a tarp and on a groundsheet using a 30L rucksack no need to carry around a sleeping bag and tent.
New subscriber here......just bouht one Claire from Go Outdoors 119 quid which is absolutley awesom for a 4 season sleeping bag ...Great video ...looking forward to checking your other vids out ........Great job you are doing
I don't plan on using the stuff sack, but I managed to squish it down so much that the straps were almost fully tightened, so you can definitely get it down more if you out some welly into it.
I had the same ,don't trust the rating of the bag till you've had a night out in it eh ,I use a snug pack jungle blanket ,it packs small and it's proper warm too ideal for an add on when it get a bit colder than you thought.
✋🏼 Gonna take that as a semi-shout out as I am that someone. ‘Plasticky’ I have the rab ascent which ill be doing a vid of (not copying). Nice vid Claire. Ta, John
Thank you :D You're right, it has a slightly weird feel to it and plasticky kinda sums it up, I figure should be ok though due to the 3 layers of clothing I'm always wearing, haha. Have a great eve! Claire
That was an awful review but I have watched it twice, three times okay 4 times. You are adorable and you have sold me on the Leviathon maggot. Thank you.
Thanks for the tip, had purchased the sleeping bag that was two up from the Leviathan, forgot the name it was blue, not the red, ok went back the go outdoors and they swapped it for the yellow one and only charged me another £19, I was shocked I told them I put a touch on inside the bag at night, I did actually and could see where the feathers were not, mostly along the sides where the zip was so this would have been a cold spot, they were fine, and so thanks. PS i started long distance walking by doing smaller walks for ages and one day someone invited me on the coast to coast so joined the long distance walking club to get the miles in and it worked, got a good Rooksac jack wolfskin Denali 65 Men, had a different one for years and still have it but wanted a new one as you do. compared it to some other brands but found this rook sac (sorry about the spelling dyslexic) more comfortable due to the padding and the fit, the site does not really do it justice. have fun and thanks, take a look and let me know what you think, they do a ladies fit as well www.jack-wolfskin.co.uk/denali-65-men/2008451-6350.html
Clare I’ve a question, how warm is that mountain summit? I’ve been given one and I’d like to try it out, but I’m not sure if I should wait for spring/summer. I’ll be hammock camping, as opposed to tenting (I just wanted your experience with using one)
Sleeping bag temp. ratings should be used as a rough guide rather than as recommendations. Also forget the Xtreme ratings, they're fantasy & consider the comfort temp. as the minimum temperature you would want to use it in. Men & women have different metabolisms & so, in general, feel the cold differently & since the temp ratings are based on a young male of aveage build, in good health, having eaten well & not tired or dehydrated,, iin a tent & on good ground insulation... is is advisable to subtract 5°C from the temp. rating when choosing a bag for women. For example if a bag claims a comfort rating of 0°C . it should be considered as 5°C for the fairer sex. Everyone is different of course but it is easier to speak of generalities rather than individuals. Good sleeping bag liners will add another season or around 5°C to the insulative properties of a bag.
This is useful, and would work for my previous bag, I'd be comfortable in that around 9/10 deg but certainly not -1 to 4. Also it should mean the new one will be great for our around 0 winter nights :D hopefully! I'm thinking about getting a liner also. Thanks! Have a great Sunday!
Jens Williamson, III (Deaf) I own 3 sleeping bags (1 under Magellan for 30 temp), (1 under Coleman for 40 temp) and (1 under Cabela's for under 0 temp). Very funny the end bit, I like oex as I have one think mines the 400 and is nice but mines rated to 0deg, I'm looking to get a snugpak merlin whick has comfort to - 7 but thay and my snugpak jungle blanket will be fine down to - 15. Anything colder I'll be in my bed lol
Lol, you look like the caterpillar from Alice in wonderland at the start. I love how well down does at keeping me warm but still haven't been able to put my money where my mouth is on buying one.
The OEX synthetic bags are the worst bags ever! The entire range for me are summer bags maybe the 400 for 10 degrees or so which is rated something like minus 3 or 4 😂🤣 That bag the 900 feather down version will be ok for around 0 I reckon . The specs on it are not great 600fp down in 900grams fill is heavy and bulky. You can get them now for around 100 quid with the vouchers online so maybe worth that for a cheap winter bag. But I'd advise anyone against OEX bags and look for a bargain in a sale and spend more money.
