Levon's performance in The Last Waltz' live performance :"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" was beyond belief. His drumming, his vocals...he reached out for all he could give in that performance.
It’s utterly heart warming to read the comments on EVERY RU-vid clip of Levon. The man was revered and rightly so and he never acted like he was. A model human being
In the nearly 60 years I've been listening to rock & roll, I don't think I've ever seen anyone so universally loved by his fellow performers as Levon. It's heartwarming to see that love in this and the ramble concerts at his barn from his peers. RIP Levon.
Levon was the consistently good voice on so many Band songs, providing the backdrop that often stabilized the then lead singer. And of course his performance on The Last Waltz with "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" was a tour de force. Will never be eclipsed. He gave it his all that night.
I think that its a blessing to us all that Levon was able to give us so much soul-enriching music, all the way up close to the time he left us. What ever had at the time of this recording, he joyfully gave it. What a beautiful gift.
