A new Lews Smash 3000 blew up on me earlier this year while bringing in a large Skip Jack. Within a week my Lews American Hero camo did the same thing. Popping , grinding. I ordered a Kastking Royale 3000 and have had zero problems. In a world of fishing gear snobs , I really wanted Lews to work for me.

Have to admit im probably gonna be buying cheap hook keepers for my lews cause i agree havin it down there drives me nuts when trying to carry 3 or so.

I'm on my second one, the first one the rod broke 1.5 ft from the tip when casting. Hopefully the second one i got is better. Other than that they work excellent.

I actually just bought the BaitCaster version with the 6'10" Rod and love it. I fish mainly a 5" Senko with it. I have always liked Spinning combos and thought about adding this one to it. just trying to decide what lures i would actually throw with this tho. what is the biggest line that one would be acceptable on it? i am running 17LB line on the mach Smash Bait Caster and has been a great combo for 2 weeks. landed a 5lb+ Bass just yesterday on it! great review.

I personally wouldn't go any higher than 12 lb. test line on it. Glad you enjoyed the video!

So i bought this model in the baitcaster. I was reccomended getting the spinning reel instead days later. Not sure which one i should choose. Havent used either yet

Try them both and see which one fits your needs/ fishing conditions better. The spinning reel will be easier to use at first, and the baitcaster will be a little more versatile with more tourqe.

I got a medium heavy Lews Mach smash spinning combo. Will it be good for salmon/steelhead.

I've never used them for those species, so I'm not sure about that. It can handle some big bass, though!

I just bought one and the guides on the rod are all bent upwards towards the pole more than usual. The person at the store said the other rods are similar. The guides are glued in such a way that causes me to believe that it’s supposed to be that way (in other words they cannot be bent down). So, is this normal for these rods?..Are the rod guides on your poles bent in the same way?

The guides on a spinning rod normally will have about a 5 degree forward angle (give or take a little angle). If yours has a slight forward bend, that's normal. Hope this helps.

I got mine in the mail, my reel seat is not in line perfectly with the line guides. is that normal?

I would say that's possibly a manufacturer defect.

So what line would you recommend for it?

That would depend on what you're fishing for with it. If you're finesse fishing for bass I'd go 8lb. fluorocarbon. Maybe 10lb. if you're fishing heavier cover, etc.

Did you know that the Lew’s Mach Smash reel is the exact same reel as the Walmart exclusive LZR Pro? The only difference is the crank arm nob is slightly different and the LZR has 10BB. The LZR Pro is half the price and is pretty much the same reel, if not a little better. I bought 2 LZR Pro reels because I couldn’t pass up the deal ($34).
