The concept of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude being made of intersecting crystals in the Arctic has never ceased to be brilliant. It’s beauty comes from its simplicity. Yet, these simple looking crystals contain the most advanced technology in the galaxy.
Its much more creative than a lot of alien tech you see in Sci-Fi. In Star Trek, Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian, Bajorian tech all looks 'the same'. There are screens, control panels, multifunction displays. They all have a different aesthetic, but they all 'function' the same way. The fortress of solitude was probably the first sci-fi tech I saw as a kid where I was like "Wow, thats REALLY alien"
@@deadlee0b1 To be fair... 'convergence evoution'. Species, races, cultures from very different backgrouns end up evolving towards the most efficient solution, both in nature (most animals in planet Earth, no matter the background end up with two eyes, two ears, a mouth and four limbs) or by invention (extemelly ancient human civilizations separated one from another when we where little more than cavemen; when they arrived to the neolithic civilization ended up creating piramids and citties of somehow simmilar estructure) so asuming that all the species of a Galaxy would culturally evolve towards some similar place is logicall... the cristal idea looks supercool... but lack any logic, actually... how do you know what the hell are you doing if there is no screen, monitors, controls, panels... jut insert a random cristal in a random hole and hope it does what you want? XDDD Not critiziing it, is thougthfull and a fun idea... but I won't blame Stark Trek for been 'uninventive'; it's logicall that thoose civilizations been all bipedal species with similar hands, eyes and limbstoend up with similar UI technollogy. Also, in Star Trek universe, is explained in-lore that all thoose humanoid species had some common ancestry so if your start point is the same, the convergence evoution is mutch more plausible.
Warhawkbeyond2040 this is the sequel to The Richard Donnor Superman because they add the archival footage and a voice over from Superman 2 and they’re all deleted Scenes!
@@chelitaduran2629 if this is a direct sequal and in the opening of the movie they say that super man was away for 10 years, sperman 2 was set in the 70's why isn't this movie set in the 80's if it's a direct sequal ?
Didn't they start filming Superman Returns in November 2004? If Marlon Brando passed away 1st July 2004, they should've got someone like Johnny Depp to step into the role of Jor-El (I thought Russell Crowe was perfect for the role in Man of Steel)
And RIP Christopher Reeve (September 25, 1952- October 10, 2004) aged 52. You will forever be remembered as the prodigal son of the this franchise as well as the one who brought the man of steel to cinematic life 🌎💫😔🙏🪦🦼
@@guypeate3628 Perhaps maybe the director here wanted to dedicate this movie in honor of Marlon Brando which is why the director didn't get someone else to play as Jorel and decided to have Marlon Brando's head as CGI for the movie since Marlon Brando passed away a long time before they started rehearsing for this movie. Plus, even if he was still alive, he wouldn't be interested in being on this movie since he would be too old by this point.
@B Banner No. 12 years had actually gone by, hence by Clark was in his early 30s when he was first shown wearing his supersuit in the Fortress of Solitude.
Kevin Spacey's Lex was the closest to what i know and picture Lex Luthor to be. I was really disappointed in Eisenberg's take on Luthor. He was...interesting...but not even close to what i expected. I wanted a Luthor that could rival Superman's might with his formidable intellect. Eisenberg's version was of a deranged little boy, traumatized by repeated abuse from his father. Sad but...Lex is a lot more than that. Lex's evolution in Smallville was exactly what i pictured. Going from a good guy, with certain hidden interests, but overall trying to be different from his father, to surpassing him in being bad. That was cool to see. So Spacey's Luthor is cool, collected, dangerous, and evil. In my humble opinion, the perfect recipe
IKR. I mean, it's closest to what Gene Hackman did in the Christopher Reeve Superman films. Eisenberg sucked as Luthor, LOL. No offense to Jesse Eisenberg but he flopped hard as Superman's arch nemesis, LMAO.
With a bald head, Kevin Spacey looks a bit like Gene Hackman. I don't know who they would cast if Kevin Spacey didn't get the role, although Billy Zane, Johnny Depp, and Robert Downey Jr. would've made great/perfect actors considered to play Lex Luthor
The sound affect they use @ 2:46 when Lex is summoning the crystal podium and it sounds like it's being extruded out of the ground and sculpted into it's finished form is absolutely brilliant.
William Darkhölme why would they put unused archive footage of Marlon Brando as Jor- El and his voiceover in this movie 🎥 if they released it in Superman 2: The Richard Donner cut just because he died? Couldn’t they have find any other guy to play Jor- El in this movie 🎥?
Chelita Duran They used Marlon Brando’s image as Jor-El to give the impression that ‘Superman Returns’ was connected to the Richard Donner Superman films as a loose sequel.
HindsightPOV oh! But you they gonna plan a movie🎥this Superman and Christian Bale’s Batman Meet but didn’t happen though! Just BVS with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill before Justice League!
Chelita Duran Not necessarily. Bale as Batman is a separate universe from Routh as Superman. Affleck as Batman was intentionally set up that he was in the same universe as Cavill’s Superman so they could verse each other in ‘Batman v Superman’.
What baffles me is with all that technology on Krypton, why wouldn't there be a security feature for the control console to be activated? When Lex holds his hands up, his DNA should not be recognized, it should only respond to Superman's DNA.
To bad this Lex Couldn't Come to Crisis.. Ok,Lex accessed the computer of the Fortress, the Fortress is literally dead, just a computer, the voice of Jor-El is gone cause he gave the remaining power left to Clark who gave up his Powers to be with Lois.. MISTAKE
0:32-0:34 whoever controls the technology controls the world. That statement had me had a passion for technology and I planned to use technology to make the world a better place for helping other people and saving them. I also use technology to help me find what I'm looking for between the past present and future.
Might sound strange to bring this up here but am I the only one who thought that their was this creepy aura/vibe surrounding Kevin Spacey even before the Scandal? Dude looks creepy as hell sometimes! Very upsetting what has come to light about him recently!
@Daniel Appleton Jesus Christ Almighty! 😂😂😂😂 It's so true though! Unfortunately some folks do Seriously give off unsettling vibes and Kevin Spacey is sadly one of them even before the Scandal broke out!
"Gods are selfish beings who fly around with little red capes and don't share their power with mankind." It's kind of hard for superman to share his power with the rest of the world lex. There's only so much platinum kryptonite...
I was thinking of making a parody/ mockumentary where during the promotion and premiere of Superman IV, something goes wrong with a publicity event. The actors would be played by the actors in this movie. I was thinking in one interview with Mark Pillow, he would start speaking with Kevin Spacey’s voice because Nuclear Man has Lex Luthor’s voice.
Its really funny because there is a deleted scene from the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 showing that after Zod, Ursa, and Non were captured, Supes destroys the fortress! Guess its not cannon but it was pretty good visual effects!
The kryptonians entire planet of Krypton was made of crystals. The kryptonians Tech was made of crystals. I'm guessing the kryptonians High Council decided define space travel their fuels were exhausted. They just couldn't continue with their own space programs. Superman's father must haves secretly had a spaceship in his home so you could send him to Earth. When Superman's father wanted to travel throughout the Galaxy Before krypton's Destruction the council ignored him
A reminder that having a door installed in your personal fortress with a key only you can lift, might not be such a bad idea. I love that the movie makers did in the movies... the interconnecting crystal house is truly beautiful but Superman left the planet for 5 yrs. He didn't have a way to make sure the Fortress was secured? Anyone could have walked in. Someone stealing my library would be a major irritation.
"Prison is a creepy place Kitty. One needs to make creepy friends in order to survive. Even a man with my vast talents is worth less inside than a carton of cigarettes and a sharp piece of metal in your pocket." Damn. It would be a real shame if Lex took this philosophy to the outside world...
If we accept the premise that this is a sequel to the first films should we also assume it follows the timeline where Kal-El spun the Earth backwards since the fortress of solitude appears intact? If we follow that logic is it safe to assume Zod and crew are alive and in the phantom zone? And, since supes reversed time are the zod and crew unaltered by the harnessed rays of krypton since it appeared at the end of the donner cut that the time reversal came at the exact moment the criminals were escaping from the phantom zone in the first place?
1. Superman didn't spin Earth backwards, he went do fast to go back in time 2. That happened in the first movie, the battle against renegade kryptonians in the second
I understand that this "Superman Returns" movie is a 2006 movie and actor Marlon Brando who played as Jor-El passed away on June 1, 2004 but, Marlon Brando starred in a scene here so, does that mean that they finished filming this movie sometime in 2004 between January to May 31, 2004 if Marlon Brando passed away on June 1, 2004.
No, Marlon Brandon was long dead before this movie started filming, his head was recreated through CGI and his voice lines were provided through archival records from unused scenes from Superman I and II.
@@Wylldenick Wow thank you. I didn't know about that. They must have used Marlon Brando's head in this scene and anything he's saying here must be in a deleted scene on one of the Superman movies in the past between Superman films 1 to 4. If he really did star on this Superman film, that would be surprising because I know that all the past actors who starred on the past four Superman films wouldn't be on this "Superman Returns" film because those past actors are very old at this point. (I did hear that they were going to have Christopher Reeve on this movie starring in a scene in his wheelchair saying something like "oh Superman, please save us from Lex Luthor" only because he was Superman on the past films. Unfortunately, he passed away before the director could have him star in a scene).
@@ArmanBaig I watched the video clip and that must have been a lot of work to make all those facial things to make it look like Marlon Brando especially I'm sure the director of this "Superman Returns" film which is Bryan Singer must have had to take a look at the past Superman film what Marlon Brando looked like as Jorel to make him look the same here in this video clip and maybe Bryan Singer must have had to talk to the past director which was Richard Donner for a voice recording of Marlon Brando's voice.
I know it's in the middle of the arctic and all, but STILL. You'd think the most advanced race in the known galaxies would have invented a fingerprint scanner or something.
I don't know who they would cast if Kevin Spacey didn't get the role, turned down the role, or refuse to shave his head for the role (of Lex Luthor.) although Billy Zane, Robert Downey Jr. and Johnny Depp would've been perfect actors considered to play Lex Luthor
Unlimited information at his disposal and Lex wants to make an island. What a lame story. Imagine if it was something like he finds out how to open up the Phantom Zone or how to call Brainiac.
It should have been Lara...Jor-el sacrificed himself to give Superman his powers back. It only makes sense that Lara’s program would take over...and it pays homage to the Lester cut of Superman 2, where she had a role.
@@SilverTounge85 Yes, Gene was 76 years old when this movie went into theaters. However, Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen could have been on this movie continuing his character as Jimmy Olsen since he was 49 years old when this movie went into theaters where I guess either he wasn't interested in continuing his character or he was too busy.
Something doesn't add up to me here; rewatching this scene after 11 years...HOW was Lex able to have access to the Fortress? I thought it only responded to Kal-El...not anyone else?
@@will_it_work Exactly,he accessed the computer, the actual voice of Jor-EL was distinguished back in Superman II when he gave the rest of the Fortress's power to KAL-EL when He gave up his Powers to be with Lois
Also, Jor-El’s image was more interactive and aware of what was going on in the Fortress of Solitude in the Donner films. He would have known Lex was not his son
@@shafinaymaanfahmi9960 Of course I do, and what I said is still true - the movie does not stand the test of time, although it was wonderfully acted by all playing main roles (Reeve, Kidder, Hackman, Beatty, et al). But it's still a cheesy movie. I loved it as a kid. There are movies made in the 1990s that don't hold up today either. I didn't say it's terrible, but in my opinion, it's not the best Superman film. And while Superman Returns isn't perfect, it's still the best Superman movie we've got right now in 2022.
i think i accept Lex Luthor as the main villains of Superman in Movies films series and Comics Book . Just because of Zack Snyder i like Jesse Eisenberg version of Lex Luthor because i don't care what hater thinks and the Rumors about The Witcher . So i accept Jesse Eisenberg version of Lex Luthor , and i was crying and upset when Henry Cavil was Rumors to be out as Superman in the same issue like Brandon Routh . Than i change my mind on Lex Luthor as the villains in Batman Vs Superman and i defend Jesse Eisenberg , because i'm fan of both i can't see Henry Cavill end up like Brandon Routh even Henry Cavill was more lucky . So for me my two Superman is Henry Cavill and Brandon Routh . Lex luthor hate is already over in my mind now , and New 52 Lex Luthor in Death Of Superman animated movie aways make me laugh for some reason .
I do not so mean lex, this could far haved been really in discuss, but really that is importance tought likes had to be going work in head, likes what this reallities unfortunatlues passes mean conditionalies seem could of ask about. I'm not sure strange mistic better main intercauses in question whose in lines, think of difference part suppose carefully mean not really to mean hurt somebody insrituonalies. That swears so befores of this funny living.
