This was my very first time in the continent of Africa! And I'm the first on my mother's side to go back so this was really special. We talk about some of my thought processes and experiences being there as well as some stereotypes of Africa that we have heard. There were so many incredible moments on our trip and we try to unpack some of them.

Why do Americans have a negative connotation to huts? Huts are architecture/engineering that work the best with the environment and weather. We teach that igloos are so cool but they are literally the same as a hut but for that environment. American houses are ruined every year by the weather due to their poor quality.

I have always thought about how African Americans are perceived/received in different countries in Africa also. It was so refreshing to hear that people are receptive to us. Always enjoy your podcasts however long/short they are ❤❤❤

I’m Nigerian (parents immigrated to the US, I was born and raised in the US), and I appreciate the perspective you guys have. I have a few thoughts to share, if you don’t mind: The dynamic nature of Africa as a continent goes even further: each African country is INCREDIBLY dynamic. Nigeria alone has dozens and dozens of languages and dialects, the foods vary in style and preparation depending on the region and ethnic group you’re from, etc. I’m a bit surprised you guys don’t hear about Nigeria as much considering how many of us are here and in the UK lol. Side note: I don’t think South Africa is viewed the same way as northern African countries (I think some of the northern countries identify more with the Middle East, whereas sub-Saharan Africa tends to get grouped together, and the countries’ histories also affect that) Another African stereotype (and I appreciate the comment Brian made about seeing the animals not being the regular thing) is that Africans wake up with lions and giraffes and stuff. When my older sister was little, she was asked if she rode a lion to school when she was in Nigeria 😑. Fortunately, I think people are becoming more aware of the reality (for example, zoos exist in Africa, and there are some very, VERY wealthy people in several African nations, Nigeria included) THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING AND DISCUSSING MULTIPLE GLOBAL CRISES, NOT JUST THE “POPULAR” ONES! Okay, these are my thoughts. Love you guys and thank you for being willing to share your experiences ❤

When people say Africa can you please be specific because Africa is a continent with 54 countries and not all of the countries are in turmoil as some of the western media will have to believe yes there are hardships but also positive things happening and we all not a basket cases.

Facts -- Americans need to start specifying what country they go visit when on the Continent. Glad they had a good experience in Tanzania :)

Thank you for sharing. Does Compassion work in Madagascar? The youth are under attack because people are coming from other countries, capturing children, abusing and trafficking them. A friend of mine was trying to get a building built for them to have a safe place. Just inquiring because my friend was there, and he witnessed with his own eye an asian male with one of the young girls. He was their for ministry purposes but the leaders communicated to him everything i've shared above. It hurts my heart that children would have to go through being stolen away from their home and abused.

Why do Americans not think about Africa has land of their ancestors. I am Jamaican born woman and I give respect and knowledge that's my ancestral blood line/ DNA is mother Africa. Put it this way I wouldn't waste my money for Disney land, but booking my flight to Africa . Nothing like been surrounded by my Nubian people. One ❤️.

There's certain state's in USA, that don't have clean running water and are surrounded by mass polution from industrial factories funded by big city operations which the government has a hand in.

It depends where in SA you are. Also, SA was deliberately created to be a 1st world in a 3rd world country due to the oppressive laws at the time.

"I have travelled across the length and breadth of Africa and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage and therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Africans think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their selfesteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation". Lord Macaulay's Address to the British Parliament on 2nd Feb 1835

Myself, I would love to visit West Africa, our true Motherland. But what's very unfortunate about the whole of Africa is the staggering homophobia because of both Christianity and Islam, but especially Christianity because many white missionaries have gone to Africa and spread that BS, taken over where the colonizers left off.
