Hey folks, I've made a new site for finding car parts and sharing car photos. It features a detailed search that helps you visualise your car with specific mods on it. Please if you can support the site by signing up, adding your car, and adding your photos! Here is a demo video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CzrnovPRtOI.html the site is www.viaaurellia.com
I've been watching a dozen reviews of this car, this one was by far the most useful, interesting and comprehensive one. I found all the info I was looking for. Thanks !
The more you drive the car the more you'll realize that the hybrid drive still does a lot of work at highway speeds. In the passing lane the battery provides instant boost. Hill climbs and starts from a stop also use the battery for acceleration, and when the computer decides that the battery is full, it will slow the engine down and use up battery power for a while.
Awesome review that specifies the pros and cons very good. I own a 2015 (facelift) high spec version for nearly 3 years. I live in the Netherlands, and because it’s as flat as a pancake the engine noise is not to bad as the engine doesn’t have to work hard. But during holidays in France, Italy and Switzerland I found the engine very noisy and sluggish in the mountains. Apart from that it’s a great car. I’m doing 4,98 l/100 km on average since I own the car. I created some more bootspace by removing the foam with the compartments under the bootfloor. It had plenty of room for a space-saver spare tyre and some other stuff. It’s funny to see some small specification differences between the European models and the ones in New Zealand. I don’t have a heated steering wheel, and it was not even on the optionlist. But I do have an electric passenger seat (only no lumbar adjustment). I also have a display on the right of the speedo-meter on the dashboard.
Hey Ralf - really interesting hearing your side of things! One thing I regret not mentioning in the video is that the facelift/changes made to the car definitely make a big difference, the facelift bumper is way nicer/newer, and the LCD screen in the gauge cluster is way better than the little pixelated one. I'm half dutch - so I totally get what you mean about being flat!! NZ is not quite so flat. But that's a very good point, you won't really have to deal with those engine noise issues too much. Thanks for your comment! Hope you're not getting too cold down in the Netherlands!
Succes!
That is a seriously, seriously kind comment. Thank you very much! Definitely made my day and gave me some motivation! I hope to get more reviews out soon. Take care and see you in some new vids soon!
@@sammygoris I’m happy to hear that my comment inspired you and lifted up your day. I’m looking forward to seeing what you create. Thoughtful, detailed and unbiased reviews like this really help people make buying decisions.
nice review, ive got one, love it. i actually prefer manual seats (mine has power). one less thing to break, and its soo much faster to recline manually when its nap time.
That is a fair point - if you don’t care for the electronics the manual way is faster. I do find when driving or if driving on an incline it’s just a bit easier using the controls that sliding manually. Either way it’s up to you how much you are about it
Great review! It did sound completely unbiased the whole way and I really appreciate that and as much as I like my CT, I agree with all the pros and cons you listed. It was intended to be the entry level Lexus but it feels like it really should be starting at a more premium level as the hybrid system quietness makes better for luxury.
It's worth mentioning the EGR issue on this car. You can google and see how many people are having this issue on forums. If you own this car probably should consider getting the EGR system cleaned if you haven't done it already.
2011 1st gen CT200h, nearly 200K, absolutely no issues, except some plastic screws has been lost and made some light rattling, installed new screws, everything is again, silent and comfortable.
Awesome review. One of the most in depth I've seen. Been thinking of picking one up. I agree with some the interior features, or lack thereof. Test drove one and so much reminded me of my old 2006 Corolla. Especially in the back, almost identical. Kind of a disappointment for sitting in a Lexus.
Thanks Matthew. Yeah the back is pretty bog standard. One aspect I should’ve mentioned though is people will like the stigma attached to having a Lexus, and having a Honda or Toyota that may have the same or more features still doesn’t carry the Lexus name.
Great review. I'm thinking of buying one of these in the UK and found your video. It's a shame about the CVT engine noise but I think it will be an ideal car for me. It's zero road tax in the UK too. I do around 70-100 Miles a day around town. I'll need to get a CAT guard for it though as CAT thefts are common over here.
Did you buy one? I bought one a week ago. What a refined beautiful car full of specs. Beautiful drive. Original cat was stolen but replaced with a high end good one.
@@kalpesh4100 it’s doing 35mpg which is rubbish compared to my 2012 auris hybrid. Honestly though it would be the same if not better. Very disappointed in the mpg. The whole reason why I bought it.
@@A_Acars What!? No way. I was also on the boat of getting one of these. Thanks to I will not buy it. My volvo v40 2013 is getting 45mpg around town that too Diesel.
Well done, this is the best review of the Lexus CT200H that I have seen. Starting at 20:00 the mpg figures seem to be for USA gallons which strangely are smaller than the imperial gallon familiar to older viewers in NZ Aus South Africa and England. 🤔 The rough conversion from l/100km to imperial mpg is 10 l/100km is about 28mpg and so 5l/100km is about 56mpg imperial.
I have a 2015 CT200h. This car is super fun to drive. It’s like driving a go kart. It’s NOT overpriced Prius. It sits low and hugs the curve at the turn. 39MPG! I wish it came with a turbo engine
Just bothered about the cost to run in the UK. I heard fords break down a lot and I think 🤔 most automatic gear box vehicles in the UK are unreliable. But thanks for the response.
@@omoyajowojohn8887 My Lexus CT200h currently has 60K miles exactly. No quality issue since new. Highly recommend! If you can find an FSport trim, go for that instead. With ECO mode, I get 40mpg. I drive it hard….not like a wuzz.
I've had one for a few weeks in Wellington. Seems decent. It's Japanese model imported and looked to be a pain to switch out the entertainment/nav system. However - Deep in the menus you can switch it to English. It works for most functions but Nav, voice control and some other bits are still Japanese. But good enough to not need to switch it out now. Bluetooth pairing is a pain. Only remembers two devices and you need to manually switch over a device (about 5 clicks) if you want to play music via the other one. I got a 520Km highway trip at ~20km/L
basic Audi's , Bmw 1, MB A classe , the have manuel seats also !! and not even alantara/suede !! thanks for this nice review . I own a CT in Business Line.. very glad in this trim
Nice review. Got a used 2012 a couple years ago. Great purchase, used they are very inexpensive. I get almost 40 mpg and the maintenance cost are almost nothing.
I own a 2012 ct200 I have a 152,000 mi and I started changing my own oil putting in Castro and the car must love it because I'm getting 51 miles to the gallon I've only had to change the brakes once. It does need back shocks I'm going to replays other than that I drain the transmission fluid every 50,000 miles and the brake fluid etc. The car runs great
Had one for a few months now. Enjoying it so far, could do with a bit more power though. The green radio screen on the base model is absolutely horrific also.
Thanks man. This beach is in East Auckland, New Zealand. Maraeti beach. It's nice a little beach that's a bit quieter but there are plenty of great beaches in Auckland/New Zealand!
Hey Harris! Thanks for that. This was filmed using a Canon 70D, a 50ml 1.8 lens, and a 18-55mm kit lens. However I've just purchased a Panasonic Lumix GH5 with an Anamorphic lens and honestly the image quality is far, far superior than the Canon. If you look on my channel for the 'Panasonic GH5 Cinematic Anamorphic Video! Sirui 35mm (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand)' video, you'll see the difference! I'm working on my reviews and car content with the GH5. Cheers!
They are not real leather seats, the are called NuLux material. Lexus are going away from dead cow skin, great review fella, very in-depth and interesting, I drive an is300h FSport which has real leather heated and cooled seats. I’m a Lexus convert…🙏
Hey Elliott, thanks for your comment. No issues as far as I’m aware. I know the CT does very well in reliability ratings. All the best with finding one!
@@sammygoris oh man I wish I remember specifically. I believe head gasket issue, oil burning, and maybe one other thing-in terms of the most common issues. One of the issues involved the car going into limp mode...which would be terrible on the highway. This same issue is found on the prius from 2010-2014. I basically read a bunch of forums and youtube comments for over a month to gather data when looking to buy one. I didn’t save any links tho :/

Hi, I have a question. How long, time wise, or far do you have to travel to charge the battery? My commute to work is about 10miles and typically takes around 30minutes, sometimes less depending on traffic, it’s mostly three lane carriageway around London, I’m trying to get an idea how much the engine would be running compared to the electric motor. Would this be sufficient time/distance to maintain the battery? Nice review by the way and I agree with you on the pro’s and con’s, although the lack of an electrically adjusted steering wheel is not a big issue for me. As for your summation, yes I agree completely and is why I’m seriously considering this car.
Hey there, Thanks for your question. It's hard to say to be honest. It charges and discharges faaairly quickly, but that also depends on the condition of your battery (batteries near the end of their life won't hold charges for as long). My drive to work is about 20-30 minutes. Basically the EV mode turns on and off ALL the time. It's not like you drive for 5 minutes fully on battery and then the next 5 minutes it's fully petrol. Between traffic lights, it's normal battery only when at the light, then you drive and you use the petrol engine, then you slow down a bit, due to traffic, turns etc and that can be fully electric, with a bit of braking here and then it keeps the charge. Basically in short, you'l be fine with your 30 minutes/10 mile commute. My commute works very well with it - I use enough of the EV mode to save gas (maybe roughly 50% of the time the engine will be off), but not too much that it depletes the battery before I get there. If you were driving purely on the highway, you would be pretty much only using the petrol engine. All the best for finding a good CT!
@@sammygoris Thanks for getting back to me, it’s much appreciated. You’ve pretty much covered what I initially thought, I wasn’t expecting it to run purely on EV fully for a set time/distance, just to assist when the traffic gets heavy, but wasn’t sure if my journey time/distance would be long enough to keep it topped up. Thanks again.
So many complaints on this car.. Engine noise, low body that scratches in bump easily, poor design quality that makes rain water entering inside the car.. That is why they stopped the production..
OH MY GOD! No cup holders in the rear. Well what do you expect in a LIXUS and no electric steering wheel adjuster. Well that is what you get in a LIXUS.
@Old Edwardian Some Lexus have cup holders at the back with the drop down tray like my GS350. So shut up because obviously you haven't own the expensive type of Lexus because if you do you shouldn't be talking like that.
@@michellee.8075 Oh so I can ONLY REPLY IF I HAVE OWNED AN EXPENSIVE LEXUS. Well excuse me your majesty, this poor little lowly serf with go and back to his slave quarters and eat his grits.
@@oldedwardian1778 And based on your response you also don't have reading comprehension, what I meant was you can NOT say " that's what you get and expect in a LIXUS " because not all lexus are made the same. Or should I say yes you can only reply if you make sense and if you only know what you are talking about, because based on how you talk you don't know much.
