In 1999 in Denver I had bought a perfect used white 1992 Lexus LS400 with 120,000 miles and full Lexus service history, and I drove about 20,000 miles a year with it, and sold it with 250,000 reliable miles and it was still perfect. Things I repaired were the air conditioning and the steering rack.
I have a 1999 dhp ls400, I love the car, I've had an ls430, gs430 sport, gs300, is300 and sc430, but the ls400 is built better and drives better than all of those I mentioned
@@eddiethetruhead stick with the ls400, seriously the gs is a good car, but the ls400 is a lot better, better drive, better reliability, you'll regret it even if you sell it, theres nothing else out there that compares to an ls400

I will most certainly take your advice and stick with the LS, even if tempted by a nice GS in the future. I’ll be inheriting my Mother’s 93 LS in a few years too. One thing about Top Gear, old and new, is that they ALWAYS find ways to shove Jaaaags in their segments. It makes sense here, since they're talking about luxury cars, but they've shown Jaguars and talked about those even in videos that were about hatchbacks. It's a funny bit of blatant advertising.
I have to admit I've always thought this is one of the most handsome cars ever to come out of Japan. Normally I'd reserve that for Hondas and the Supra's and RX-7s but Toyota/Lexus certainly hit a cracker out the park with the original LS400. Yeah it looks abit blunt nosed and bland from some angles but I love the side profile much better than Mercedes, Jag and BMW and that's really saying something for a 1st shot luxury car. I've met folk with Lexus who couldn't be more satisfied with how their cars treated em.
IIRC The Crown ended up being fitted with the only V12 ever made by a Japanese auto maker. It's funny how Clarkson thought Lexus made the worst car ever (even devoting an entire TG special to it) until he drove the LFA. At least Quentin was brave enough to admit his prejudice and actually overcome it. Scotty would approve of this video.
I buy cars at Mannheim auctions for a large dealership. Every week I see one of these with 300-500k miles and purrs quietly without oil leaks… I check them out just because I’m curious.
Ha Bloody Ha ! I am on my third. I bought my 99 Model for FITEEN HUNDRED POUNDS, tidied it up, now its agreed value at £6500. 24 years old and still runs like s Dream ! It really IS better than a Bentley, and if your into great Luxo-Barges, you COULDN'T do any better ! .
I owned a 1990 LS400 in diamond white pearl, quarter million miles, ran amazingly. Unfortunately got totaled by a crazy woman in a Nissan Pathfinder, though I do drive something more awesome, a 1991 Toyota Celsior, the JDM version LS400 never sold outside of Japan.
