Being a "FAN" infers emotional outbursts both good and bad,with a positive correlation (almost causal) between the degree of fandom and performance of the team.

I have the same superstitions: 1. Wear Matthews jersey every game 2. Have road/away socks and Babsocks (only new logo allowed) 3. Wear grey t-shirt under jersey (never red no matter what) 4. I must play NHL on game day 5. PVR game and watch game on a 30-45 minute delay, mostly to allow time to put my young kids to bed, and it allows me to skip commercials. I also shut my phone off so I can't easily check the live score 6. Depending on the score, I will move to different parts of the couch As I made this list, I began thinking that someone might need to make a special asylum just for Leafs fans.

I'm a Kings fan also and I feel a strange connection to the Leafs. I started following Matthews and now I find myself rooting for the Leafs every game (unless they are playing L.A.). The kids on that team have won me over. Also, Toronto is an amazing hockey market and they deserve a cup. Not to mention the riots in Ontario would be epic! lol
Steve I remember the heartbreak from 04. I remember just needing the Devils to beat the Isles in 07, but deciding to start Clemmenson over Brodeur. All the years we were top 10 until February...or worse March, and we drove off the cliff. The kids will settle down. These games are fun to play in. Have faith bro. We'll get there. We win one and we leapfrog Boston and avoid the Caps.

I even cut my finger doing the dishes during the first intermission of the tampa shutout. Watched the Leafs in the ER score 4 goals in the second period. Then I got 5 stitches. I can't say I didn't contemplate drawing more blood last night.
Tears in my eyes. Beginning of this season, I knew the Leafs existed, a little surprised they did so bad in the (nearly) thirty years I spent frozen in Antarctica/not being a hockey fan. I care now, you infectious man.
I can honestly say that watching this not only made me laugh, but it made me feel better through experiencing Steve's rage, vicariously. Ah the best video all season! Man I have to stay up (I live in Sweden) and watch tor-pit to see how this story will develop and hopefully the Maple Leafs will win because even though Steve is more entertaining when they lose, they deserve to win.
Thank you for the doing the screaming so the rest of us don't have to ... you probably know this, but there are some us who are right there with you. I'll be very honest: I don't have high expectations for a deep run. If that WSH game was any indication, it is likely to be one and done (round that is), if we manage to make it. But I'd like to see that. I'd much prefer it to somehow managing to miss the playoffs after this remarkable season. I want this season to be different, to be a break from the past. And making it to playoffs, even if we get crushed by a first round matchup with a team that is truly better than the Leafs, would do it. So I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful that this is a new and different team from what came before 16-17. I guess we'll see on Saturday night.

Considering my team clinched the conference, I'm about to get screamed at. Nonetheless...you're in a win-win situation, Leafs Nation. If you make the playoffs, you get to see what you have currently and tweak for next season. If you miss it (like my Hawks did in 2008), you get hungry. Sometimes you get more fire from a loss than a win (see, 2014 Western Conference Finals, game 7, OT). My theory? If you lose out this year, you're 3 years away from a Stanley Cup. If you win, who knows?

Was at the game yesterday and man that second Tampa goal from Kucherov really sucked the life out. It just looked like Tampa wanted it way more. Just listening to the fans sitting around me and the prevailing comment I kept hearing was "What is happening? We are so much better than this" Still a believer though, looking forward to an exciting and stressful weekend :)

norfolk admirals aren't the tampa affiliate anymore. They were the ducks affiliate and were moved to san diego. The admirals only exist in name in the ECHL
I have a similar NHL video game superstition. The final score to any game I play as the Hawks on a game day or the night before has been the final score... Not always a good thing. I thought I was crazy but I don't play as the Hawks or against the team they are playing the day of or day before the game. During the playoffs, I don't play as the Blackhawks at all until they are eliminated. Not to mention I wear red boxers everytime they play and a black shirt with black and red socks for all home games. White and red socks with a white shirt for all road games (red boxers as well). Every playoff year I take my Patrick Kane jersey to be blessed by my sister-in-law's dad who is a deacon. I watch every game sitting on the table in front of my tv and play dishonored before every must win game just to get a win. And for three game six stanley cup wins, I've had tacos for dinner. Live in Norway and watched the game until 3am when Tampa scored their first goal and thought to myself, well that's it there out of this one and went to bed. Two more chances to make the playoffs. I'm in, but are they ?
Of course we're in. Only 2 more games. Might as well ride this out no matter the end result. Better question is whether the Leafs are in. After last night I think that's more in the air. I'm glad to have someone telling people to shove the optimism up their rears. There are good things that came out of this season. It won't freaking matter. Over the course of that season with all that good stuff, they build themselves expectation. People were willing and ready for an ok year, improve by a few points and draft around the 10th overall. By having all this good stuff, the team made their expectations. They built themselves a position where they only have to go 1-3 in their last four games to make the playoffs. So far, they are 0-2. If they screw this up. It's a failure. It's a failure with some positives you can take from it. But a failure. They pulled everyone in. Despite all the crap that came before. All the disaster. All the mediocrity. They got people to believe in this group. And here they are screwing it up. They need to wake up. Get their rears in gear. And play their best game of the entire season on Saturday.
Steve I've said it before. You've got your expectations way too high. All season I've been enjoying these games, but never for a moment did I allow myself to get caught up with all this post season stuff. If they make it, to me, it's a bonus. If not, well that's what I expected for a rookie rebuild and a good one at that. Just watch the games and relax. Did they suck? Heck yes. Did I expect they would stomp tampa? Nope. I figured a decent loss. This was horrible but still not worth the stress.
you certainly do not feel the pain that long suffering leaf fans feel. you have no expectations, you just take it as it comes. You see, if the leafs were to be rebuilding, they would have not improved this season at all. Instead, they made big strides and gave you hope and over exceeded their own expectations. You just don't make a big 180 during a rebuild like the leafs did. They gave fans hope and now those hopes will probably be crushed by the weekend. Enjoy your rebuild buddy and keep saying "oh next year"

I have one superstition. It's when my mom goes upstairs, the Blackhawks always score. So me and my dad are like "MOM STAY UPSTAIRS, WE HAVE TO BEAT THEM!" So that's what she did against the Pens game a few weeks ago and now she can barely watch the games anymore 😂
im hoping that risk aversion will slant the odds toward us, although the leafs aren't a physical team per se. For example #51 may waive his no contact clause. At ay rate we should know in short order how the game is going to go by the forecheck..if its "on" ....then they are as well. GLG
